Not my list, yet- so wait a bit longer to know how the Premiership will NOT finish up but The Observer's stab.

This is a club by club guide. Transfer spending to date makes interesting reading.

Excluding the clubs which have spent net >£10m, £54.7m net has been spent by 18 clubs on transfer fees.

Chelsea have spent "only" £28.2m net (a lot of incoming transfer fees) and Everton have spent £13.6m net.

The clubs spending more than £5m net are an eclectic bunch: Arsenal, Mancs, Liverpool, Fulham, Sheff Utd, Wigan, West Ham.

Three clubs have made a gain on transfer activity this summer: Rovers (and that is with Roberts' fee over-stated!), Bolton and Boro (could be significant in relation to their prospects).

Money bags 'Arry has managed to burn through £350K so far! No wonder he wasn't appointed at Chelsea. The Pompey fan rates "half" the Rovers team as hate figures (what?). Good reason as any for us taking three points next Saturday.

I edited on 16/8, with aston villa get better result. i still think Reading will not down as their pre-season match between them and some strong team is not bad.

Blackburn should at least target 7th chasing newcastle very closely at 6th, spurs 5th n the big 4 at the top.

Relegaion contenders will be the 3 newly promoted clubs along with fulham, middlesbrough, wigan n man city.

I'm going to wait until the day before the season starts to give my league prediction, but I cannot say that I agree with that Observer prediction at all. How the hell they can think that Man UTD will finish 5th, I don't know. As far as I'm concerned, there is no chance that Chelsea will be anything less than champions this year and I don't think that Arsenal are goingnto improve on last season when they're looking set to lose Cole and haven't brought in any new central defenders or a new left back.

As for Rovers, well with our squad as it is, I cannot see us maintaining a European run as well as a good league position. If we get knocked out early on, then maybe. But otherwise I can see us slipping as low as tenth.

I'm really not sure about where Man Utd & Geordies will finish as they don't have any strikers.

As for that Observer article, the lack of Brum, Leeds & Mackems'll have no effect whatsoever on the competitiveness of the Prem going on how they fared in their relegation seasons...

I don't intend to do a prediction of final placings, but would just like to make another prediction.

Which is that if Man. U. don't finish in the top two this season, AND Rovers finish anywhere in the top five, it will be goodye to RFW at O.T. and goodbye to MH at Ewood!!

So it's "get your prayer mats out" time folks!

As much as I want Reading to do well, they just haven't strengthened enough this offseason to avoid the drop.

You've just sent Sparky to O. T. Bob!!

Yeah I know, hopefully you're wrong. Ultimately what's going to be more rewarding for him though? Making Rovers European Champions or Manchester United? Besides I think it's only fair that they give Sir Alex another 20-30 years to get it right again.
