rovers_rob Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I can understand Roberts wanting to leave but Mokoena ? What’s his problem ? He has been a regular for the past few weeks. That really irritates me when I hear players wanting to leave because they where substitituted. Pathertic. Derby, Sunderland and Fulham want to buy Roberts but who wants to buy Mokoena ? Is there anyone who wants to buy Mokoena nicko ? It seems like every day there is another player who wants to leave, is there going to be any news on players who we are going to sign ?

USABlue Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I seem to remember most fans a few seasons back insisting all was well as we sailed merrily towards the iceberg under Souness. Well I wonder who those people could have been Two transfer requests in a day, are things not going well in the dressing room at Ewood? Or do these players simply want guaranteed first team footy. Are there any teams outside the relegation area that could gaurantee either of those two a starting spot.
Fife Rover Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 He had them before we signed him though, so the theory is flawed, if you look hard enough you can find gems. Sorry to disagree with you Modes, but the Theory is still correct even in the case of Samba. Why? Well consider the situation before Rovers signed him. Yes. he must have undoubtedly had the talents of pace and skill, BUT they were at that time UNDISCOVERED talents. His club was playing him mostly in the 2nd or 3rd teams, and even then as a striker rather than a defender or midfielder. Hence his talents were completely unknown (even to himself). So what MH was doing at the time he scouted Samba was getting a feeling or instinct that this boy MIGHT be good. Hence the invitation to come over for a trial. It was only after an extended trial that Sparky realised he had indeed discovered a gem which no one else knew about. Hence Fife's Law still applied and he was signed as an unknown and high risk player on the Pace?+Skill? = low cost but high risk situation. Luckily Sparky's instincts were once again proved impeccable. (And the theory still works)

There are a few with an eye on the transfer window exit door, that's all. There have been plenty of names of possible arrivals - but mainly in the trialist section. I think there is only one 'big' target in the manager's sights and that is Anelka. It should be a busier little month of January than imagined. I don't think the manager wants to lose Roberts, but it will come down to the price offered - and whether anyone comes in for Benni. As for Mokoena and Sav...I think one will go, but not both.
Eddie Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Actually, if you look back on the interview that was posted with Samba a few weeks back, Hughes never scouted him. I know this makes Hughes look not quite as good, but Samba said that the only reason he went to Blackburn was because his agent put in some good work when we were looking at another player. He came over for a trial and it was then one of the coaching staff at Blackburn who told Hughes that we were onto a winner. It was luck, not a good scouting network.
Eddie Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I don't think the manager wants to lose Roberts, but it will come down to the price offered - and whether anyone comes in for Benni. Do you think it's possible that if we brought in 3 or 4 million for Roberts that we may have enough money for an Anelka deal?
nicko Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 LEST WE FORGET... Then again there wasnt much else to read in the mirror today, its a crap newspaper filled with a bit of a crap bit of reporting. Obviously Mr Nixon, money is tight at this time of the year, was the story worth much to you this week?
nicko Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Do you think it's possible that if we brought in 3 or 4 million for Roberts that we may have enough money for an Anelka deal? I think you would have to sell McCarthy and lose his wages to make the Anelka deal happen. Roberts will fetch £2 to £2.5 million and that's not nearly enough.

Roberts will fetch £2 to £2.5 million and that's not nearly enough. I wouldn't want to lose Benni and Roberts to get Anelka personally - unless we could get another decent striker in for next to nothing. Santa, Anelka, Derbs and Rigters is thin on the ground to say the least. Speaking of Derbyshire though - I saw him shopping in Preston about 12.30 on Wednesday. What time do these guys train? Finished and in Preston by 12.30 - what an easy life!
Mozzer Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 this could be one fun transfer window.. mokoena and roberts unhappy, savage and mcarthy getting itchy feet..blackburn supposedly after anelka..this could be our busiest transfer window yet under hughes... i hope if we are getting rid of a few players , i hope we dont just bring in trialists to replace them..
philipl Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 For all the Coventry City watchers, Ray Ranson is still in Manchester.
Ricky Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Under 5 hours to sort it now. Worrying times for Cov fans
rovers_rob Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Keane rules out Blackburn striker swoop : http://www.sunderlandecho.com/safc/Keane-r...iker.3592044.jp
LeftWinger Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Under 5 hours to sort it now. Worrying times for Cov fans But not so much for you! Is it £50 you had on at 9-1 (with £25 not even your money)? I had £25 at 9s.
Ricky Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 also picked up a little extra at 11-1 if they get the 10 point deduction I'll lay a bit on betfair to cover my stake.
modes98 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 For all the Coventry City watchers, Ray Ranson is still in Manchester. Ranson has done them good and proper Fife: Even though undiscovered he still has them, so your theory should include an undiscovered clause or something. There are bargains everywhere, just takes a bit more luck than judgement to find them.

That's the sensible move if you can afford to have the cash tied up. If you wanted to lay £50 at 2-1 say, you'd have £150 tied up till May, which annoys me a bit.
Jan Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Well I wonder who those people could have been Not me, Not me!!!! *jumps up and down waving hand!!!*
EwoodGlory Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Roberts will fetch £2 to £2.5 million and that's not nearly enough. I think there could be quite a few teams in for him by January. Wigan, Fulham, Sunderland and Derby for a start. Im sure we could get nearer £4m for him, no way would I let him leave for less than that.
Exiled_Rover Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I think there could be quite a few teams in for him by January. Wigan, Fulham, Sunderland and Derby for a start. Im sure we could get nearer £4m for him, no way would I let him leave for less than that. We'd have to make a substantial profit on him, otherwise there's no benefit in selling him; transfer request or no. I can't believe Hughes isn't targeting a central midfielder in January. We've been crying out for a midfielder who can do it all (run box to box, tackle, pass, support the strikers) for a while. At the moment we have players that can do one thing or the other, but not both i.e. Tugay can pass, Savage can run box to box, Mokoena can tackle. It's really holding us back, especially as the two upfront are isolated for extended periods of the match.
joey_big_nose Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I think you would have to sell McCarthy and lose his wages to make the Anelka deal happen. Roberts will fetch £2 to £2.5 million and that's not nearly enough. We can't lose both Roberts and McCarthy, even if we did bring in Anelka. We would be short of options if someone got injured. Also it would be disruptive to change that much up front, to the point where the entire front line, Derbs excepted, will have been at the club less than six months. Tough times for Hughes. I can see his thinking though as for all their technique and skill neither Benni nor Cruz look to stretch the opponents back line, Anelka could do that. But a full switch around up front is a bit of a gamble...
they_think_its_all_rover Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Think Hughes wants Anelka to use him in the same way he used Bellamy... and look how well we did with him.
Hughesy Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Roberts, Mokoena out - Anelka In! Sounds like good business to me, even if we need to put £5 million into the deal! Its a big improvement to the team. I dont like Roberts attitutude and if Mokoena wasnt happy then he can go too! Maybe someone could buy Gallagher off us too?
Ozz Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 So we have 4 decent strikers, one or maybe two may leave. We certainly need a left footed midfielder, and maybe another Tugay in the middle. But the Axe wants out. So thats three midfielders, and possibly two strikers. I bet nothing happens after all that. I would go for James Milner and swap him for Peddo, flog Roberts for say £3M and use the cash to buy Luca Toni.
Cocker Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 use the cash to buy Luca Toni. Toni has only just moved. He is too old (I think) he would be too slow for the prem If there is a chance we would get Anelka thats where I would go
