[Archived] Blackburn Rovers vs. QPR

Someone on Facebook just said Diouf's CAR got kicked in by QPR players

Any idea if that is true? He said he saw it, but he's like 12 so not sure he's got it right, don't know him so can't say if he's reputable

Kind of answers the question itself fella. ;)

Because Warnock's players have never reacted to what looks like a bad tackle?

Say what you like about Dioufy, he's not an angel and I can well imagine he gobbed off but there is no way on earth he would do so in the knowledge the lad had broken his leg.

That much should be obvious to someone of his experience.

Exactly - Warnock loves to spout off at every opportunity and looks foolish every time he does it.

Warnock's quotes after the game are sensational - about the most vicious attack I have ever heard from a manager about a player [Diouf].

Seems something might have kicked off in the tunnel too?

Any witnesses?

Surely the FA need to step in and sort him out if the comments are that bad.

I can understand Dioufy's reaction to be honest, the QPR lad went in high and left Givet in a real state. Dioufy is clearly trying to show his disatisfaction with the challenge and was completely unaware of the serverity of the lads injury.

Warnock is a tit, obviously peeved his team showed him the aren't the real deal he thinks they are. I'm sure Warnock was in hot water a few seasons ago for bellowing at one one his players to 'break' an opponents leg ... Not nice is it.

Sky interview with Warnock, he said:

""I think for many years I think he's been the 'gutter' type of boy. I was going to call him a sewer rat, but that might insult the sewer rats. I think he's the lowest of the low"

diouffy wants to get his lawyers in warnocks comments are disgraceful.......what the hell is he doing saying he'll be the 1st player out of the door and kean does'nt want his sort. One of our better players there are10 players ahead of diouf for the exit, hope warnock gets hammered and hope kean calls warnock a tool when questioned.

What would Warnock know hes always been a second rate manager. If he had been in the game at a top top level he would know how to be professional but he's only ever really managed absolute @#/? in a shower of ###### league. Diouf will put him back in his place.

Shocked at the outburst. Neil is such a mild mannered guy. I think this might be the first time he has been so outspoken. Or maybe not.

Disputes

Warnock, who is qualified as a referee,[10] but has never officiated at the very top level, is renowned for his outbursts, which some see as controversial and despite obviously being a very able manager these are often cited as the reason he has never managed a higher echelon club. He has had high-profile disputes with many inside the game, some of which are detailed below.

[edit]Players

Stéphane Henchoz – Over an alleged spitting incident in the League Cup semi-final between Sheffield United and Liverpool.[11]

Peter Swan – A player for Warnock at Argyle and Bury, he called Warnock "a prick".[12]

Geoff Horsfield – Warnock told him he was unwanted after a permanent deal had been agreed to bring him to Sheffield United from West Bromwich Albion in a £1.2m deal, Warnock reportedly told him he didn't want him anywhere near Sheffield United and to go and train with West Brom.

Stephen Hunt – After a match against Reading Warnock condemned the behaviour of the Royals' Stephen Hunt. He is said to have commented: "Hunt has proved on a few occasions that he's a clever type, and his challenge on Nick Montgomery earlier in the game wasn't clever either".[13] He also said he looked like he shouldn't be holding a pint.

Michael Johnson – In a 2005–06 Championship game with Derby County, Warnock reacted to a challenge by Johnson on Paul Ifill and was accused of playing a part in getting the opposition player sent off. This led to a face to face confrontation between the two and the Derby fans were incensed by Warnock's actions. Warnock asserted that the tackle was a bad one and that his reaction had made no difference to the outcome.[14]

Shefki Kuqi – During a 2007–08 Championship game with Wolves, Kuqi was spotted gesturing at Palace fans whilst being substituted. As a result the Finnish international was transfer-listed and fined two weeks' wages, with Warnock stating "I will be transfer-listing him immediately. I don't accept things like that, so that is the end of the matter."[15] However it was not, as Kuqi would return the following season after an injury crisis and would gain popularity with some Palace fans, despite again upsetting them by refusing to lower his wage demands at the end of his contract and subsequently leaving the club.

Phil Starbuck – Early on in the 1994/95 season at Huddersfield Town, when Starbuck was captain, his form was poor and Warnock took the captaincy off him, dropped him and told him that he was out "for up to 6 weeks", however Starbuck wasn't prepared to wait for this and handed in a transfer request.

[edit]Managers

Gérard Houllier – See Stéphane Henchoz above. Also involved an argument about United's allegedly physical approach against Liverpool in the League Cup Semi Final 1st leg, a match in which Liverpool had 5 men cautioned to United's one.[16]

Phil Thompson – See Stéphane Henchoz above.

Gary Megson – Following allegations that Warnock tried to void a 2002 match by reducing his team to six players. For details of this match, see Battle of Bramall Lane. Warnock later commented he "wouldn't ###### on him if he caught fire."

Stan Ternent – A longstanding feud. Most recently in 2001, when Ternent accused Warnock of sending his then assistant manager Kevin Blackwell to listen to his half time teamtalk .[17]

Mick Jones – A long-term assistant to Warnock, the pair did not speak for several years after Jones opted to remain at Plymouth Argyle as manager after Warnock was sacked, rather than follow him to Oldham Athletic.[18] The pair reunited as a managerial partnership again in 2005 at Sheffield United and achieved promotion in their first season back together, and are now both at Queens Park Rangers.[19]

Joe Kinnear – Kinnear remarked that Warnock was a 'prat' after a 1–1 draw between Sheffield United and Kinnear's Nottingham Forest in 2004–05.[20]

Kevin Blackwell – Warnock told the press that he wished he'd had the money to spend on players that Blackwell had in the season 2004–2005.[21] Blackwell had previously been Warnock's assistant at Sheffield United for several years and indeed Warnock had helped Blackwell out for years, working with him at Scarborough, Huddersfield, Torquay, Plymouth et al. Another dispute occurred on 18 April 2006 in a match between Leeds United and Sheffield United at Bramall Lane when Warnock was sent from the touch-line after making a comment to Blackwell over a tackle by Gary Kelly on a Sheffield United player that Warnock deemed a bookable offence, and would have resulted in the Leeds player being sent off.[22]

Nigel Worthington – on 18 March 2006 Worthington apparently refused to shake hands with Warnock resulting in Warnock sticking two fingers up at him, an incident over which the FA charged Warnock with improper conduct.[23]

Wally Downes – On 20 January 2007, in a match against Reading, Keith Gillespie was sent off seconds after he came onto the pitch, for swiping Reading's Stephen Hunt in the face. After a protracted departure from the pitch, Warnock performed a stamping motion on the sideline directed towards referee Mark Halsey – referring to an earlier tackle made by Steve Sidwell which Warnock felt warranted a red card as well. Reading coach Wally Downes took exception to his actions, and pushed Warnock, causing a mass brawl on the sidelines. Both Warnock and Downes were sent to the stands as a result. Later Wally Downes admitted a misconduct charge to the FA,[24] was fined £2,000 and given a one-match touchline ban, but it did earn Downes a chant with the Reading fans referring to his attack on Warnock.

Gareth Southgate – Accused Southgate on Sky Sports News (shown 19 March 2007) of fielding a weaker starting XI against relegation-threatened Manchester City. Warnock claimed Southgate was "helping out" a friend, City manager Stuart Pearce.[25]

Rafael Benítez – Warnock has repeatedly voiced his dissatisfaction with the fact that Rafael Benitez fielded a weakened side against Fulham at the end of the 2006/2007 season (Liverpool at the time had nothing to play for in the Premier League, and were preparing for the Champions' League Final). Warnock felt the resulting Fulham win caused Sheffield to be relegated to the Championship. Even a year later, Warnock has failed to put the incident behind him and stated that "he wished that Benitez never won anything while at Liverpool"[citation needed].

Gary Johnson – Warnock claimed that Johnson and his Bristol City side "could have shown more sportsmanship" after failing to correct a refereeing blunder that saw Crystal Palace denied a goal, after Freddie Sears' strike bounced back out of the net, leading to the referee Rob Shoebridge awarding a goal-kick instead.

[edit]Referees

Jim Rushton – Warnock, whilst manager of Huddersfield Town, was known to dislike Rushton. Huddersfield played Lincoln City in the FA Cup and Warnock was disappointed with Lee Sinnott and someone being carded and wasn't happy when he find out that Rushton was to referee a league game between the same two sides and Warnock asked for him to be switched as it would give Lincoln "an unfair advantage". Before the game Rushton said to Warnock that he knew he had wanted him switched. During the game Warnock was sent off for a "non-violent push" on the linesman. Rushton also refereed the Autoglass Trophy Final in 1994 between Swansea City and Huddersfield. Huddersfield lost 4–1 on penalties.

David Elleray – Warnock called him a "bald-headed bloke", whilst criticizing his decision making ability.[26]

Graham Poll – Following what Warnock believed to be a mistake by Poll which led to Arsenal scoring in the FA Cup semi-final in 2003.[27]

In a Sky Sports documentary, Warnock agreed to be filmed in a personal documentary about his life on and off the pitch. During a match at home to Ipswich Town, Warnock was seen to swear at and verbally abuse one of the assistant referees (also telling the then Ipswich manager that the assistant 'had been his best player'), perhaps revealing why Warnock is seen as one of the more controversial football managers in England.[28]

Richard Beeby – Warnock heavily criticised Beeby in February 2008 after he played on for longer than the designated added time at the end of a match between Bristol City and Palace at Ashton Gate, which led to Bristol City equalising 25 seconds after full-time should have been blown, even claiming Beeby celebrated City's equaliser.[29] Warnock was subsequently charged with "improper conduct" by the FA.[30] In response, he "admitted the charge and requested a personal hearing".[31] Warnock was subsequently fined £2,000.

Rob Shoebridge – Warnock heavily criticised Rob Shoebridge and his officials after another disputed incident at Ashton Gate, when Freddie Sears gave Palace what they thought was an early lead. However Sears' effort rebounded back off of the stanchion at the back of the goal and out of it, leading to Shoebridge and his assistants signalling a goal-kick. Palace were then beaten in the penultimate minute of the game, and Warnock claimed that his side had been "cheated" out of a result.[32]

Trevor Massey – Warnock criticised Linesman Trevor Massey after an FA Cup tie with Aston Villa on 14th Feb 2010. Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov equalised in the 87th minute from a corner that video replays showed to have been wrongly given. Warnock was quoted as saying "I hope he (Trevor Massey) is suspended for a long time".

[edit]Fans

Nottingham Forest – Under Warnock's management, Notts County briefly rivalled the Reds (Nottingham Forest) in the early 1990s. Also, Warnock's subsequent team, Sheffield United, defeated Forest in a play-off semi-final in 2003.[33][34]

Leicester City – When Leicester restructured their debt after going into administration in 2002, enabling them to hold onto a string of Premiership stars who ordinarily would have been sold to stay afloat, they gained promotion to the Premiership, at the expense of Sheffield United, who had to make do with a play-off place. After United failed to gain promotion Warnock revealed his anger at the Leicester situation. Incensed that City could have got into such a state yet continued to compete at the top of the table, with no punishment, Warnock complained to the press, claiming United should have Leicester's place in the Premiership and the club should have been relegated or booted out the League. Any team now going into administration is automatically deducted 10 points, although even with this punishment Leicester would still have been two points clear of United, albeit with a far stronger team as a result of the move into administration.[35] He added further problems between Leicester fans and himself on 15th July. Warnock told the Ealing Gazette that Leicester were not as big as his current club, Queens Park Rangers. [36]

Sean Bean – In a recent tabloid serialisation of Warnock's autobiography, "Made In Sheffield", Warnock claims that minutes after the final game of the 2006–07 season Bean burst into his office, blaming Warnock for the team's relegation in a "foul-mouthed tirade" while Warnock's wife and daughter[37] were present. Bean denied this, calling Warnock "bitter" and "hypocritical", and arguing that he would never use such language in front of another man's wife and children.[38]

Bury – Warnock's reputation started poorly with Bury fans and finally was destroyed when he was seen applauding Bolton Wanderers' fourth goal in a cup tie. He had the accolade of receiving abuse from the whole stadium when Bury played away to Oldham Athletic where he was held in similar regard.[39]

Bristol City – Warnock claimed he was punched by a Bristol City fan, during chaotic scenes after Palace had been beaten by City in extra-time in the play-offs in 2008. Many City fans had great respect for Warnock however, after he shook the hand of their manager Gary Johnson before the final whistle had even blown.

Bristol Rovers – Rovers fans have a longstanding dislike for Warnock after several incidents while manager of Huddersfield Town.

Bradford City – Bradford fans have a longstanding dislike for Warnock after he was the Manager of their arch-rivals Huddersfield Town, most notably during a game between Bradford and Bury at Bury's Gigg Lane, where Warnock was Manager, where the whole ground were singing "We want Warnock Out!" even Warnock himself admitted that this incident was a first for him.

Crystal Palace – Some Palace fans were upset by Warnock opting to depart the Eagles for Queens Park Rangers in 2010 in the midst of administration and a relegation battle.

West Brom – see the Battle of Bramall Lane.

Exeter City- Warnock, while manager of Plymouth, was given the nickname 'Colin' (due to the fact that Neil Warnock is an anagram of Colin ######) by the Exeter City fanzine 'Exe Directory'.

[edit]Chairmen & directors

Warnock is also critical in the autobiography of several of the chairmen and directors he worked with during his career. The most notable were Derek Pavis (Notts County),[40] Dan McCauley (Plymouth Argyle),[41] Terry Fisher (Huddersfield Town),[42] and Ken Marsden (Gainsborough Trinity). However, Warnock insists in the same publication that he now gets on well with all of them.

Former friend Simon Jordan labelled Warnock "disloyal" for leaving Crystal Palace for Queens Park Rangers in March 2010, and that the move had been motivated by money rather than footballing matters.

Crystal Palace administration Brendan Guilfoyle claimed Warnock "lacked the stomach for the fight" to keep the Eagles up in 2010, resulting in his departure.

He seems to have got on very well with former Bury FC chairman Terry Robinson, given that Robinson moved to Sheffield United as chairman not long after Warnock had taken the manager's job there.[39]

QPR fan on radio 5 making fool out of himself says we should ban diouf for 3 games......thinks the name of blackburn has lost respect, get over it ffs.

Robbie Savage not really too critical. Kind of recall gary neville and keane berating injured opposition on the floor but i guess they would never get a media backlash.

I don't usually mind Warnock. At least you know he'll have something blunt or controversial to say instead of the usual managerial clichés. However, that remark about Diouf, whatever you think of the man, is completely tasteless and hypocritical.

The challenge on Givet was near the Riverside stand, so with Warnock being on the other side of the ground I'm not sure how he heard what Diouf supposedly said.......

"There was no need for him to put the finger up and talk to Mackie like he did. He was calling him a disgrace and all sorts of things.

What a s#*t stirrer! How can he say this when he didn't hear anything himself?

From my view in the BBE it looked to me that both players but in dangerous looking tackles, I may be mistaken but I thought both players lunged slightly into the tackle and was interesting to see no cards issues, maybe the referee saw both injured and thought it was just an accident. Shall have to see it again to make a proper judgement though, regardless a wish a speedy recover to the QPR lad, thankfully Givet appears to be okay.

On remarks to the actually performance, thought we started brightly and had three good chances but where denied by Kenny. Then the stoppage in play due to the incident mentioned above really took the sting out of the game and we never really got back going from that point. Was a fairly equal game from there on in but thankfully Hoilett, our best player by a distance in an attacking sense, popped with a winner. Good to see Junior starting to realise some of the great potential he appears to have, brilliant dribbling skills surely deserves a good run in the team after his last two performances alone. Elsewhere I thought Nelsen & Hanley looked fairly comfortable, Salgado was as consistent as ever and Morris supported attacks well. Meanwhile in midfield and upfront nobody really stood out bar Hoilett. Mame Diouf showed some more worring signs that he's not the most natural of finishers but does keep getting in the right positions at least. Overall considering we had quite a lot of youngsters and second string players out I think we did just enough to deserve the win.

Thye reality was that Givet's heavy touch set up a problem that was always going to end up in a collision. Until I see it again in slo-mo I hesitate to make a judgement.

However Warnock should take a look in the mirror, talk about the pot calling the kettle black! All through the game there were elbows flying in (how Derry didn't get a red for elbowing Hoillet) and Hulse never challenged fairly. Off the ball fouls are standard in Neil Warnock's teams. I have had the misfortune of seeing too many of his tactics in use.

A cynical rule-bender.

He will get QPR up but his rants and posturing are all intended to deflect from his team tactics and performance.

No love lost towards him from me.

Anyway, he can concentrate on the league now.

Can you believe it - we are winning games scoring goals from open play! Sam Allardyce will be spinning in his holiday hammock in Dubai.
