Athlete Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Apart from the years we played in Europe? Guess he didn't notice them. thats what people forget the Souness , Hughes years
John Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Finished 10th under Big Sam, they got the intro wrong the tools.
Amo Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Don't be so sensitive. He was very clearly on our side. Not sensitive, just stating a fact.
Athlete Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Don't be so sensitive. He was very clearly on our side. yes but his facts were wrong
chaddyrovers Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Finished 10th under Big Sam, they got the intro wrong the tools. but we were 13th when Big Sam was sacked. time for the UK government to put new laws in place for Football ownership of UK club. where is the FA, PL and FL on the ownership of BRFC??? what has actually happen to BRFCAG meetings with these people??? any follow up meetings?
Hasta Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 At least Motty is one of the few people who dares to suggest "agents ... and one in particular" could be to blame.
danger19_80 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 At least Motty is one of the few people who dares to suggest "agents ... and one in particular" could be to blame. Spot on.
Athlete Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 At least Motty is one of the few people who dares to suggest "agents ... and one in particular" could be to blame. came close to naming him
LeChuck Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Motsons a C*** as well best we could expect what about The Hughes , Souness years The Hughes and Souness years where we finished mid-table you mean?
Stuart Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Can't stand Motson - even just his voice grates. The thought of listening to Motson interviewing Shebby makes me feel ill. Think I'll wait for the transcript "highlights".
LeChuck Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 So we weren't a European, top-six team under Souness or Hughes then? Finishing sixth twice in the last 10 years doesn't make us a top six team. Nobody but a Rovers fan would try to claim we were anything other than a mid-table PL club. A top six club is one that can challenge for the top six places, not just sixth place itself. We managed to grab their coat tails a couple of times. It's very different. That's not to put us down. There are very few clubs who could claim to be solid mid-table Premier League clubs. It's still elite company. But let's not make out we were something we weren't.
danger19_80 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Couldn't agree more Le Chuck. Few on here need a (former) reality check.

You're wrong. The whole system's wrong.
den Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Finishing sixth twice in the last 10 years doesn't make us a top six team. Of course it did. I think Motson was quoted as saying "at best....we were a mid table team. It's all a bit picky, but he was clearly wrong. At best we were indeed a top six club.
philipl Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Transition from championship to league 1. Have I got that right Shabster?
den Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I didn't listen to it - but did SS really say the transition was almost done?
philipl Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 There is no denying we finished top half four seasons out of five immediately prior to the Loons.
LeChuck Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 We weren't a mid-table side "AT BEST" if we enjoyed top six finishes after the 1995 title win, are we? Motty was wrong. You're wrong. The whole system's wrong. We were a mid-table team that, in a good season, could catch one of the European places and maybe get decent cup run. Similar to clubs like Aston Villa, Fulham, Newcastle over that period. Never a genuine threat to the established top six at the time (i.e. ALL the top six, not just one of the stragglers) but capable of getting close on a good season, without ever being in danger of relegation. It's still a horrendous fall, whatever way you look at it. What is the gap between us and those three clubs now?
rovers11 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Five Live show was bog standard really. We've heard it all before about how Venkys are useless etc. We`ve known that for 2 years, I'm pretty sick of hearing about it tbh. I wanted the BBC to get someone from the FA on the line. Shouldn't they start really asking question and pressing the FA for answers and what they are going to do about this situation?! Ian Battersby was good and is someone that I think could be our saviour.
Backroom DE. Posted March 25, 2013 Backroom Posted March 25, 2013 I didn't listen to it - but did SS really say the transition was almost done? Yeah, we can apparently get ready to enjoy our football again soon Den, so no worries.
OJRovers Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Did he really talk about long term stability? Biggest joke in football that man.
LDRover Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Yeah, we can apparently get ready to enjoy our football again soon Den, so no worries. That's good to hear. I'm a lot more relaxed about things now.
Amo Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 We were a mid-table team that, in a good season, could catch one of the European places and maybe get decent cup run. So we were a mid-table side only when we weren't? If you finish in the top six you're a top six side. It might be transient but at that time the league doesn't lie. Motty was rather dismissive of our post-title success to say we were a mid-table side at best. That's patently untrue no matter how you try to spin it. But that's the mainstream perception of Rovers, isn't it? Pretenders to the throne who only won it through their local sugar daddy... unlike the other big clubs who all won their titles on a pittance, I presume? They'll never forgive us for that. Still, it's only taken them two years to acknowledge the fowl stench that we've endured for the last two years. When we really needed media support last year, where were they? Too busy gushing over Kean, there's where, one of the main reasons we're in this mess! If it wasn't so sad, I'd be laughing my ass off.
Rover_Shaun Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I didn't listen to it - but did SS really say the transition was almost done?Yep. All he needs is the final op and he's Shebbina
