Rovers linked with Walsall's striker Tom Bradshaw.

J*B and Me will be happy if he signs

We may well see him here next season...

In a Walsall shirt more likely than a Rovers one at the moment

Every position needs strengthening. There is not a single player of Premier League quality in the whole set-up currently and perhaps only three who might develop to that level.

Beyond depressing.

Which is why talk of a £10,15 or even £20m warchest hardly scratched the surface. Lambert is going to need £30-40m this summer.

We don't need a team of premier league players Philip.

We don't need a team of premier league players Philip.

We're ridiculously short of having a team capable of challenging for promotion though, Den. I commented the other day, but only our CB's and Marshall are likely good enough for a play-off challenge and even then Hanley/Duffy lack consistency.

If the V's have pulled the plug then we're down to about 13-14 first teamers come the summer, and not one of them is a striker.

Whilst we are short at present, a healthy budget in the summer and an overhaul which we all know is needed could get us into contention.

I'm sure Brighton fans felt a million miles away last season when they were in the same position as we are now and had been fighting relegation all season. A full pre-season under Hughton and 4-5 decent signings and they're on their way up.

Sheffield Wednesday haven't had to spend £30 million. They've spent £4-5 million and added 4-5 quality players to what they already have and they are going into the play-offs having been a mid-table side for years. They're still running around with Ross Wallace and Glenn Loovens in their starting 11 - who'd have wanted them here last summer?

There is still a base of players to build on here. Did Ginger at Burnley spend 5 mill per position ? Did Watford or Norwich ? 30/40 mill probably wouldn't guarantee to get us up immediately anyway although it would be nice. If that was invested it needs doing over a few seasons.

He needs to retain the good ones now and get rid of the chaff and use that saving to strengthen right back etc with some solid steady types. Then he needs a decent budget to keep Graham and get in another decent striker, a goal scoring one, a decent mid and some flair, not Gomez. That is a step in the right direction and needn't cost 20 mill.

He needs two seasons and if we don't do it next then a similar recruitment next summer should see us even stronger. That's doable if they reinvest the Rhodes money this summer with a bit of leeway.

Does anyone seriously think the budget will be anywhere near the fantasy island figures banded around on here? Seriously, have the past 6 years taught people nowt? This club is fcked under Venkys. Always will be.

I was talking to a friend of mine about this yesterday. Contracts in the championship should be very heavily incentivised and based solely on promotion. Very low basic wages with huge bonuses and promise of increased contracts if we go up. It's clear that clubs in the championship just don't have the income to pay large contracts and are risking everything on promotion. Boro would be screwed if they don't go up this season. Derby could also be in some difficulty if they don't.

I don't think so. The debate is about what we NEED not what we'll get. Deep down we know it'll be more sales and frees and loans in with maybe the odd few hundred grand perm signing !

If that's the case it's a pointless debate and not worth pursuing.

Some like to live in hope and some on here still inhabit cuckoo land despite what stares them in the face continually.

Each to their own though
