islander200 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 No wonder the rb was so happy, coming in as first choice ffs.Brittain will be a huge loss Quote
Tomphil2 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 It ain't Mercers fault the 'nearly there' talk has been doing the rounds all week but they'll have known full well serious bids were imminent. As most of us were expecting. 1 Quote
JHRover Posted July 11 Posted July 11 We aren't a club that signs competition for places or solid back ups. If we spend money and make signings it is to go into the first XI and replace departures. So I think anyone expecting Brittain and the new signing to compete for a place was highly optimistic. Of course they will dress it up as this with the fiction, spread via friendly journos, that a good contract extension was on the table. But that doesn't cost anything. 3 Quote
Forever Blue Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I called Mercer the ITK Daddy yesterday. Iβve never felt more violated. Β Β 2 Quote
rob_of_the_rovers Posted July 11 Posted July 11 To be fair Mercer said Brittain was close to agreeing a contract, which he was, just not with us 5 Quote
Backroom Tom Posted July 11 Backroom Posted July 11 Itβs all very predictable; sign a βback upβ right back, leak that we are close to agreeing terms with out first choice one then: who would have thunk it? 5 Quote
Popular Post BigHoz Posted July 11 Popular Post Posted July 11 Itβs not the clubs fault brittain is leaving the club used its initiative bringing a RB before hand and have managed to pocket 2+ million in doing so. Great deal for the venkys. Β weβve brought in 3 unknowns for peanuts and most of the fans didnβt expect us to sign anyone yet so itβs all good even tho we have lost Dolan bath weimann and more than likely brittain.Β Β Iβve heard brittain has an uncle up north and wants to be close to him so it makes sense for him to go to boro.Β Β saved you a job chaddy, kick back, relax and enjoy the hate.Β 11 1 Quote
yankfan Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Losing Brittain would be a blow but Iβd much rather see us get a few million quid for him then watch him leave for free in a years time.Β 3 Quote

But hey ho welcome to Blackburn.Β 11 Quote

Way back when I signed my first contract in Germany I was told by the football director, βcongratulations youβve broken in. My job is to now go sign someone better than you. Β Your job is to prove whoever I bring in isnβt.β Β Competition is what drives player to be better. Gamst Posted July 11 Posted July 11 If you donβt pay your best players their market value and play hard ball they will leave and rightly so. Travis, Batth, Brittain and Tronstad should have had their contracts renewed last summer! Pasha et al deserve all the hard luck they get. The fans donβt deserve it Β and are the victims as usual.Β 5 Quote

John Posted July 11 Posted July 11 We seem incapable of keeping our better players, even if itβs to teams in the Championship? On the assumption Brittain / Travis leave. Β Confirms our βambitionβ and clearly our financial challenges are maybe worse than being reported.Β 1 Quote
roversfan99 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 No one should fall for the shite that will peddled about him being about to sign a new deal before we was blown out of the water. This should have been sorted months ago. We may well have got close to an agreement but in the summer with a year to go, always a risk of this. If he was about to sign a new deal, that makes it worse because had we offered it previously he would have signed without this risk. 3 Quote
RoversClitheroe Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I can already predict a key person saying" "Yeah but at least we tried to sign him up, not our fault he's gone. Β£2.5m is fantastic for a player in his last year" Absolute bollocks to that, class player, should be in the prem for me. 5 Quote
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Dream window for venkys so far.Β 3 cheap players for peanuts. Linked with a few good players but unable to get the signings done. (shock). Baath/Weimann wages off the books. JRC out the door.Β His fee will cover the 3 signings.Β No contracts agreed with the main players and happy to accept offers. Β On a sidenote.Β The offer of Β£2.5mil for arguably the league's best right back ...shows how laughable the suggestion is that we paid Β£2million for the ex Leicester lad.Β Β 9 Quote

Moderation Lead Popular Post K-Hod Posted July 11 Moderation Lead Popular Post Posted July 11 Any other club would push the boat out to keep their best players. Down Ewood, a shrug of the shoulders and on to some cheap Belgian league plodders. Sound. 10 Quote
simongarnerisgod Posted July 11 Posted July 11 if you were callum.lets be honest, you would run to middlesborough if it meant getting out of the cesspit that is our club.i think the same applies to travis and sonny the move for the baradji has hit the skids, what a surprise,he must be quite good hence he wants a decent wage 2 Quote

Most other clubs are trying to compete with a competitive budget.Β We're clearly just happy to survive and minimise the amount of money the Venkys have to put in every year.Β 2 Quote
