It ain't Mercers fault the 'nearly there' talk has been doing the rounds all week but they'll have known full well serious bids were imminent.

As most of us were expecting.

We aren't a club that signs competition for places or solid back ups. If we spend money and make signings it is to go into the first XI and replace departures.

So I think anyone expecting Brittain and the new signing to compete for a place was highly optimistic. Of course they will dress it up as this with the fiction, spread via friendly journos, that a good contract extension was on the table. But that doesn't cost anything.

Itโ€™s all very predictable; sign a โ€˜back upโ€™ right back, leak that we are close to agreeing terms with out first choice one then:

To be fair Mercer said Brittain was close to agreeing a contract, which he was, just not with us

We need someone to blame and Chaddyโ€™s not logged on yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Way back when I signed my first contract in Germany I was told by the football director, โ€œcongratulations youโ€™ve broken in. My job is to now go sign someone better than you. ย Your job is to prove whoever I bring in isnโ€™t.โ€ ย Competition is what drives player to be better. I think the lack of competition in the team often leads to the complacency and underwhelming performance of the past 10 yearsย

If you donโ€™t pay your best players their market value and play hard ball they will leave and rightly so. Travis, Batth, Brittain and Tronstad should have had their contracts renewed last summer! Pasha et al deserve all the hard luck they get. The fans donโ€™t deserve it ย and are the victims as usual.ย

Eustace can fuck off as well

Sanderson, Batth, Weiman, Brittain - do Derby have a scouting network or is it just Eustace's contacts book?

We seem incapable of keeping our better players, even if itโ€™s to teams in the Championship? On the assumption Brittain / Travis leave.
ย

Confirms our โ€œambitionโ€ and clearly our financial challenges are maybe worse than being reported.ย

No one should fall for the shite that will peddled about him being about to sign a new deal before we was blown out of the water.

This should have been sorted months ago. We may well have got close to an agreement but in the summer with a year to go, always a risk of this. If he was about to sign a new deal, that makes it worse because had we offered it previously he would have signed without this risk.

I can already predict a key person saying"

"Yeah but at least we tried to sign him up, not our fault he's gone. ยฃ2.5m is fantastic for a player in his last year"

Absolute bollocks to that, class player, should be in the prem for me.

Dream window for venkys so far.ย

3 cheap players for peanuts. Linked with a few good players but unable to get the signings done. (shock).

Baath/Weimann wages off the books.

JRC out the door.ย  His fee will cover the 3 signings.ย

No contracts agreed with the main players and happy to accept offers.

ย

On a sidenote.ย  The offer of ยฃ2.5mil for arguably the league's best right back ...shows how laughable the suggestion is that we paid ยฃ2million for the ex Leicester lad.ย

I like him a lot, but he's not a good enough defender for the Premier League.ย

if you were callum.lets be honest, you would run to middlesborough if it meant getting out of the cesspit that is our club.i think the same applies to travis and sonny

the move for the baradji has hit the skids, what a surprise,he must be quite good hence he wants a decent wage

Any other club would push the boat out to keep their best players.

Down Ewood, a shrug of the shoulders and on to some cheap Belgian league plodders.

Sound.

Most other clubs are trying to compete with a competitive budget.ย

We're clearly just happy to survive and minimise the amount of money the Venkys have to put in every year.ย
