I know nothing whatsoever about it but Im guessing he would prefer to go to Derby and team up with Eustace again, but Boro are offering more or what Rovers want so he might be forced to go there.

I'm sure JE has been onto Brittain and given him the big sell on Derby, no doubts there.

But if he really wanted that move, and JE's got the backing of Derby's owners, why haven't they been back in for him? Not much point in waiting 3 weeks for Boro to get back in there.

This will now force Derby's hand.Β  Think they have been playing something of a waiting game whilst busy elsewhere in the market.Β  Time for them to sh1t or get off the pot.Β  Don't think this is over yet.

I think people prefer the third option - renewing the contracts of our key players.

What a preposterous notion!Β  That will never be sustainable πŸ˜‰Β

Not sure this was the case. I can't see how, if we were saving say Β£50k a week (which may be an over-estimate) once those players left, we suddenly have the funds for their down payments, agent's fees, their wages and signing on fees.Β

I made a breakdown of the numbers earlier in this thread regarding wage cuts. My figures are based on a few assumptions but I think it's fair to say the wages were slashed in the region of 100K pounds per week at least. We don't know if the transfer fees were paid upfront in full or if they're made in instalments but nothing suggests that the entirety of these payments couldn't have been made directly as a result of said wage cuts.

It's entirely possible that a player like McLoughlin commanded a decent sign-on fee but the other three are young players with less experience and coming from smaller clubs than ours relatively speaking.

We are looking in the bargain basement for players on the cheap and desperate for a move. Hull are under a transfer embargo and Kortrijk got relegated. Baradji, who we are after, got relegated with Yverdon Sport as well. Don't think it's all a coincidence.

Completely agree. Only thing is if the idea is to eventually exit paying off losses as much as possible they need to get to the premier league which doesn't gel that well with this approach..

Their ownership is so baffling. Surely they must have some sort of time horizon. The longer they stick around the more more they lose.

There aren’t many lower division clubs that break even…our role model now therefore is possibly Rotherham Utd.Β

Just noticed that Swindon have signed non-league goalscoring phenomenon Jake Tabor, and feel a bit like an opportunity may have been missed (by a lot of teams tbf). Yes he's been playing in the 9th tier I believe, but if he manages even half as many goals (127 goals in his last 91 games) he's probably costing upwards of a million by the end of the season, as he's just turning 22. Swindon have probably paid buttons. He apparently also broke the record on Holloway's fitness test he's been using all his managerial career, whilst on trial, having been using non league facilities til now. Could be the next Jamie Vardy type. In fact from what I can tell it's considerably more goals than Vardy was scoring at the same age just one or two tiers higher.

With a nominal fee, surely would have been a better bet than targeting no striker at all. Even if it didn't work out by January a decent loan wouldn't have been too hard to secure.

He’s just been mentioned on Guardian Weekly podcast as one to watch…

What's the point? Get a good player, have a really good season, get close to the play offs.

Then we just sell and don't even bother trying to improve.

Pathetic.

Improving isn’t the goal. Cost cutting is the prime objective…hopefully whilst avoiding relegation.

But…

Lewis Miller is the Aussie apparently - Fee approx Β£1.5m and can play RB and RCB - big, powerful and highly rated. Seems a good signing if it happens.

I hope you let their tyres down as an appropriate gesture on your way out, to give them an exciting journey home. It is high time some of these nuovo lumpen petit bourgoisie pillocks were instructed to stuff socks in their mouths before uttering any simpering drivel like that to good folk like you.

Lewis Miller, 750k according to Nixon.

Sounds like good value - although clearly won’t be same standard as Brittain.Β

Any Scots know much about him?Β
