Any player considering moving to the Azerbaijan league over English football raises serious alarm bells.

Qualified for the Champions League group stage.

I’m not sure. I’d much rather he was thinking “I’ll move to crazy Rovers, score 20 in a season and move somewhere else”. I’m being deadly serious when I say I’d be asking him if he was seriously considering Azerbaijan and if he answered yes, I’d move on. Not the right character.

I don't know.

He might make more money, and he's now guaranteed 8 Champions League matches, including 4 matches against really top clubs and a couple of matches against the kind of teams he may see as his next move (Benfica, Ajax).

I agree in principle, but I can also understand a player choosing Champions League exposure over playing in the Championship. Especially if a move to Qarabag could include a relatively friendly release clause that could be activated in January or next summer.

You've joined the conversation late and misunderstood what was being said.

I say the same for any good player that considers moving to the SPL.

There's like 2 games a year and a cup final worth playing - otherwise you're on easy street.

Like a move to Rangers or Celtic it's purely money / status based. Can't really blame them in a short career.

You have, go back to my reply to Rev a couple of pages back about Leonard.

You didn't even realise Leonard was part of the conversation. You jumped in late and got it completely wrong.

Is that quote writing players off or just an observation? If it was:

"He is going to be shit and I wont even give him the chance to prove himself considering he was relegated."

Then maybe.

I didn't realise we had to be so literal, but I'll keep that one in the back pocket.

Can't say I agree with writing Harry Leonard off cos he was 'bullied' when he arrived on the scene - he was 19 ffs!

I'd like to see him stay and given a chance, but it appears off field issues (not fitness) are going to put an end to that.

The deal reportedly agreed this morning seemed a good one all round - hopefully it can be salvaged and with time for the club to bring in someone they will play. No point in him playing U21 football all season.

Of course I realised Leonard was part of the conversation.

Rev says it’s unfair that a poster is saying about Leonard being “Clearly not being able to cope with the Championship” as though the posters have witnessed that as fact whilst he has been a Rovers player. Revs argument is you can’t say he clearly isn’t as he hasn’t started that many games.

I’ve not really seen anyone saying that about the new signings as they haven’t seen them (clearly not good enough). Just opinions on whether they will be a success based on their track records/ career paths at other clubs. There’s a difference.

FWIW I’m not too fussed about offloading him if a replacement is incoming, and in ever thought we’d get a mill for him.

People saying signing Bailey Cadamarteri and Gudjohnsen would be good because their dad's were excellent players. Shall we see what Dwight Yorke's son is up to while we're at it?

He'd be cracking in goal. We'd never concede.

Who the hell thinks Cadamarteri’s dad was an excellent player?

Andri Gudjohnsen’s record however is good in its own right.

I would not be surprised if Leonard was nearly agreed then Pasha tried to squeeze Posh for extra by leaking it to the press via Elliot, and then MacAnthony just said screw you and backed out.

It was a flippant comment meant as a joke, in support of Leonard. No more, no less. That's why I said you didn't understand the conversation.

It won't be the last comment to snowball out of all recognition but there you go. We haven't even got to the end of the window yet.

To be fair his dad would be our best player these days.

I'd bet money on the deal being done before the widow closes.

"Signing players who've been relegated"

How many times did they get written off? You mustnt have been reading at the beginning of the window.

And what the "abuse" comment is about I've no idea

People keep re packaging criticism as ‘abuse’ and saying players are being abused, when it just isn’t true.

The link with that to players being ‘written off’, was people re defining words to suit arguments.

You can’t really redefine “x player is not up to it” when they’ve played less than an hour in the league.

The Furphy comparison is a good one I think. As well as moving on some stiffs, he sold what I thought were pretty much our three best players in Hunter, Wilson and Rogers (swapped for Barry Dumptruck Endean), dropped the Don into the ressies, promoted two youth players we’d pretty much never heard of in Bradford and McDonald, and promptly saw us hovering just above the bottom 4 until the aforesaid Fergie Frightener single-handedly turned things around. We just need to sign the next Tony Field, whose track record till that point would have seen him condemned as utterly useless had we had a messageboard then.

In fairness to Tony Field, although we signed him 'only' from Southport (think the fee was another £20k?), if my memory is correct, he was still in his early 20's, had clocked up 100+ appearances and was a 1 goal in 3 games forward.  Wouldn't we snap a club's hand off for something similar now!?

That Aynsley Pears dad was a good keeper perhaps we should........

We’re such a clown show. Feel bad for Leonard. Gets his chance at first team football. A relaunch of his career. Likely bitter sweet with the years he’s spent at the club, says his heartfelt goodbyes…then some c^nt who know fuck all about football walks in and says we’re not selling you. Back to the bench and the 21s until we get another £300,000?  A rounding error in modern football terms.

In the end I hope we loan him out so he gets to play everyday. The kid deserves a shot to kick start his career.
