I like Brittain a lot and he had a great season last year, but I think if we went back 18 months ago in the forum there would be a lot saying not good enough etc. I wouldn't say hes guaranteed to have a good season this year. Could be he just had a good season last year.

Shame to lose him though, would have loved to keep him.

Tronstad and Travis concern me more as they have proven themselves as top Championship performers over a longer period.

If, and only if, we bring in Miller to replace Brittain, that is an okay deal. Seems like a decent player and has international experience, alongside covering CB while Carter is injured.Β

Suspect Alebiosu is the starter, certainly RoversTV has been pushing him, and from what I heard of preseason he seems decent.

I don’t think Britain is a world beater but it’s the inevitably of replacing him with someone inferior that makes it yet another nail in our eventual relegation coffin.

I like the look of Miller, potentially our modern day Lucas Neill. Not just because of his nationality but physical attributes and playing style. Pretty much the same size and in the athletic mould.

I don't particularly want Brittain to leave but he has a price and you do have to remember last season really was his standout one. Ideal scenario would be him signing the contract he deserves but I think we know that's not happening.

i think he`s the best right back in the league, improved hugely under eustace who made him better defensively,it`s inevitable he`ll be replaced by someone inferior, there is no way we are spending what it costs to get someone as good

if we had sorted out his contract last season we would`nt be here lamenting his departure, getting to the point where im`e now hoping venkys have some terrible event happen to them, thats the only way we are getting rid of themΒ

Lewis Miller, 750k according to Nixon.

Sounds like good value - although clearly won’t be same standard as Brittain.Β
Β

Any Scots know much about him?Β

I think whst we saw of brittain in the final couple of months is the best he's gonna get (a reliable rw back nothing more nothing less) Millar allresdy looks as good as brittain if he can adapt to the championship and has the potential to be a better more versatile player than brittain. Who knows, just get some players signed πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

Is he the best RB in the league?

Perhaps he is on the ball. I don't think he is off the ball.Β

Apparently the scouting team have heard of a man down under.Β Β

Val has reportedly said he better run, and they better find cover

I know these are song lyrics, but the ability to run seems to be #1 on Ismael's priority list.Β

It feels a bit like we could be swapping having one excellent FB on each flank before Jan last season (Beck and Brittain) for having two dependable FBs on each flank (Ribeiro and Pickering, albeit the latter was already here, and Miller and Alebiosu). Of course, the fullness of time will bear out whether that's an accurate assessment, but I wonder how to feel about that if it is.

Ideally you'd have quality and depth like we did at LB all season really. At RB though we got a little lucky that Brittain stayed fitter than the season before, as none of the backup options was particularly palatable. And maybe one of the new lads will prove to be quality, but it's hard to see either being immediately as good as Brittain was. The video I found of a younger Miller suggests he moves a bit like Brittain, but I didn't see much evidence of the high quality delivery Callum has. But if he has learnt since then and can defend better than CB there might not be much in it.

And I do like the idea of an athletic, quick team that can harass the opposition and break with pace. But I also worry about how many soft tissue injuries we will pick up. Given we already get quite a few with our not particularly fast team, I think this approach may necessitate more depth than we will accrue.

Mowbray bought a raw Brittain.

JDT got him playing one-two’s, first time passes, running off the ball and getting into the box.

Eustace got him defending better.

Its a good example of a player absorbing the best bits from each coach he’s worked under.

Mowbray wasn't here when Brittain signed.

He was always good on the ball ,excellent that season for Barnsley when they made the top 6 under ismaelΒ

Losing Brittain does mean that right flank would be toothless going forward, definitely need a right winger.

val likes his players over 6 foot and to press the ball, reckon he`s going all long ball this season, pointless to try and bomb down the flanks if we don`t have the players to do it,long ball to kargbo/de neveΒ  running behind the full back will be the go to play,iv`e nothing against it tbh,my main concern is we have to small a squad to play the pressure game week after week

I stand corrected. He seemed quite safe when he first started playing for us but was one he really seemed to get forward when JDT-ball was working. For some reason I thought he arrived a year earlier.

Does anyone bother paying for LT? Every article I click on these days is unreadable because of their paywal.. apart from scrolling through our constant chat (no complaints, I love our forum!) any good /reputable pages to keep an eye on for Rovers news? Not that there will be news I bet

Reinvesting a portion of profit on a player who has potential and is younger seems far too sensible.Β

Exactly.

Re-investing the loose change from his already budgeted for wage on a lower paid cheap player is more akin to how they operate here.
