Rev,take a close look at the team pic from 1879 above (earliest known to exist) at Alexanda Meadows, front row on the right...player is sporting the Cross on his chest.

Btw,that picture I think was taken just inside where these Commemorative gates are..

https://eastlancscc.com/safeguarding/

Yeah saw that, but no sign in 1892.

You can say boo to that goose if you wish but you don't disrespect those who we remember on that day - do it sometime else .

I don’t make our fallen would get upset about a bit of protesting when they died for our right to do so. THAT is disrespectful.

It appears in photos…

Three players with  shirts with the 'Halves' the wrong way round ...typical Rovers even back then !

I think I might be going mad - but I just saw while on the internet just now pop up in my google shopping recommends an all white kit with the new/old cross emblem for the badge instead of the rose. Looked very good.

Went to find it again to take a screenshot to post here, but it has disappeared! Can't find it anywhere.

Not sure if I was

  1. Hallucinating
  2. It was one of those concept kits
  3. It was made available briefly by mistake and taken down
  4. It's been available already and everyone knows that but I don't

If you walked into a museum and damaged a historical item what would the repercussions be? Surely all these clubs that are founding members or formed in the 1800s ought to be protected by law. And its not 'just so the fans have a team forever' I mean I ought to be a right of passage to be protected there wouldn't be the modern game if it wasn't for these clubs 150+ years ago.

Another picture from 1892/93 indicating we were playing in lighter halves than today with not a Maltese cross in sight

So since at least 187920251020_192242.jpg.06e38dc2603b7db2c58b949c3e42fede.jpg we've been playing in blue and white halves of some sort with no apparent  sign of a Maltese Cross since at least 1892.

Which genius came up with an idea for an all white commemorative strip with a Maltese Cross?

Why would you not have the earliest Badge in our history?

Why fixated on 1892? Surely the earliest we can find on record ought to be the one to be used. What would your proposal be ?

Why are you fixated on a Maltese Cross?

It looks like we HAVEN'T used one since at least 1892 so Im not sure why we need it now.

A nice shirt in blue and white halves of some hue with a quality badge similar to the 1975 one marking the anniversary would have done for me.

None of which we look likely to get.

Do you want it to say McEwens on the front too?

150 years is a huge milestone and putting a Maltese cross on it symbolises our beginnings why it would be anything else is beyond me. Sad to say but not many here (at a guess) will see us at 200 years old. Why not nod to our foundations now while we can.

It could well be argued that this Maltese Cross has no actual direct connection to the Rovers Club.

"This motif was worn by both the Shrewsbury and Malvern school teams and two former Malvernians played in that first team alongside the two old Salopians, so there is a clear link with these public schools."

It's wearing was afforded as an honour  to those former pupils of those above learning establishments...nothing more. Its has now suddenly become gospel that it was the CLUBS first badge?

Mmmmmm.

I doubt I'll see 175. But I will settle for seeing Venkys sell-up.

If you can explain what the significance of the Maltese Cross is to the Football Club I'm open to being convinced otherwise.

It's the same as with the players who played for England. They were allowed to wear the England badge as an honour of being an international player.

This whole Maltese cross garbage has become the gospel now because it would take a cursory five minutes to read through some of the actual history to understand why one or two players had that on their shirts in the earliest photo. Notice that not all the players have that badge on their shirts.

As with anything at venky Rovers, even putting in a derisory amount of effort is deemed to be too much. The Maltese cross is cheap, easy and can be generated by AI in a few seconds. An actual commemorative badge would take effort and care along with the most basic understanding of the club history.
