On way home but why were Ipswich allowed to celebrate in front of own fans with no announcement. Bloody disgusting.

Think that was the but that annoyed us mist. They came out before we knew for sure it was off - I know we knew as soon as they went off but not officially. Awful from our club.

We played at Leeds Rd Huddersfield 83/84 in a snowstorm and that was worse than today !

But we won 2-0 !

Remember that one well, every one was in the bogs at half time, freezing. I think Garner got both but might be wrong.

Embarrassing again from yourself.

My prediction was correct until game was abandon. 1 nil Cantwell

Not embarrassing but just plain reality.

If gamesmanship upsets you so much then stick to games and puzzles for pacifists.

About 1 min before they went off.

Watching it on Rovers TV, footballers' boots started bringing splashes from the surface about the 70th minute but the ball was still running well and I thought we were going to play the fully allotted.

But from 75th minute there was standing water as can be seen in this clip and the ball was neither running nor bouncing.

It was getting farcical when a Rovers' cross field ball conveniently stopped dead in a puddle at the ref's feet.

Enough of the waterpolo report.

I thought Rovers played really well and were the better of the two sides. Taylor Garner Hickman and Lewis Miller both were excellent. Need to keep this good footballing run going with a win at the Valley next.

A Match is 90 minutes so I don’t think we should be awarded the win.

The time left, the score and them being down to ten men means I don’t think a full replay is appropriate either.

That leaves a partial replay as the fairest outcome, in my opinion of course.

If i have read everything correctly:

Game will be replayed 11 vs 11

Red card will result in suspension for their player but not against us

Prediction: we will have at least 2 key players missing the replay through suspension or injury

Conclusion: 🤬

It was the 3rd of January 1994.

I was there (as a 10 year old), watching Jones and co doing Klinsmanns on the pitch through the gates.

Same opponents but are you sure that's the same game?

I thought the new JW stand opened well before that.

Incidentally, we might feel deja vu all over the park against Derby but Ipswich really are Baggies in Drag. 6 ex WBA players enjoying the Ewood splash and fun at one point.

Most likely but not certainly.

As I said, the result standing is usually only invoked if it’s abandoned due to crowd issues, fans tying to get the game stopped etc.. It’s just one rule to cover several eventualities.

I can’t think of a precedent in a league where the result has stood due to weather unless both teams have agreed.

I was sat in the ‘new’ Darwen End for that game and Jones and co. came sliding in front of us, so definitely Premier League 93/94 season.

2025 - today's game called off after 80 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch

2024 - Rovers v Portsmouth postponed due to a waterlogged pitch

2022 - Rovers v Millwall postponed due to snow

2021 - Rovers v Swansea postponed due to a waterlogged pitch (2 days after this game Rovers release a club statement acknowledging issues with the pitch and blaming 'extreme weather' and a high number of games

2012 - Rovers v Brighton postponed due to a waterlogged pitch

Now I'm relying on the power of Google and my memory but I cannot recall a game being cancelled, abandoned or postponed due to the weather prior to 2012 in my lifetime, and I was born in 1990.

Maybe someone can confirm if I am not correct there. Let's focus on games affected by the rain or snow.

There has always been a river running past the ground into which the pitch drains and yet strangely this didn't seem to be a chronic problem for 20+ years, it seems to have become a major issue, particularly in the last 3-4 years.

I'm sure that some will claim that this is because of 'climate change' and we are suddenly getting a lot more wet weather than we used to. Or maybe it is actually because Rovers have failed to invest adequately in maintaining and improving their facilities, which I think is pretty evident from a simple visual observation of Ewood Park, and this is one element of it biting us in the arse.

Edit - our match with Aston Villa in the Cup in 2010 was postponed due to snow and ice

I know climate change is a divisive subject, and I'm not getting involved in a discussion about it but recent studies have shown that the UK gets more prolonged, intensive rainfall than we used to.

That drainage system should have been designed to cope with worst case scenario's but that was many years ago. A design of the same thing tomorrow would lead to different infrastructure/design than what's there now.

Incidentally, I work for a large Civil Engineering consultancy, who I'm sure would be happy to take a look and come up with an alternative design 😀

I dont get the bitterness towards McKenna. The game clearly couldnt carry on regardless of what anyone wanted, the ball couldnt move or bounce.

Telling that only our game fell foul in the North West.

There's no way I can see anything other than a replay. With injury time there still could have been 15 minutes or more left, at a 1-0 scoreline. Can't see how that would qualify to give us the result, unfortunately.

Rovers 1 nil up, Ipswich down to 10 men, match abandoned after almost 80 minutes on the clock. If there were fair rules in football, Ipswich would be down to 10 men for 10 minutes of the replay, with Rovers 1-0 in front. Wishful thinking, it will just be a replay.

Yeah, 100% that game - I remember it vividly.
Ian's article gives the specifics also.

I grew up very locally and remember - JW stand construction was continued/completed over that summer (1994), being officially opened in 1996 at home to Forest.

BBC reporting that the Manchester utd. v Chelsea match is at risk of a waterlogged pitch and that the wet surface is 'really affecting play' - This will be interesting, it's a game with a team 2-0 up and a couple of red cards, in favour of Mu.

If that game gets called off you can bet that Mu will heavily lobby to be awarded the win - we might be able to tack on to that.

United pitch is holding up

Today is infuriating but as others said not sure we can blame the referee or their manager it looked unplayable
