And how likely is that?

Wages just depend on the competition. He will be willing to lower his demands if there is no big clubs coming in for him as no one will be able to match what he is on at Liverpool or anywhere near it. Given the fact Kewell has shown little form and been out with injuries for most of his Liverpool career I would say there is not going to be a massive queue of clubs looking to sign him up. Providing we don't get Newcastle or West Ham getting involved and offering huge sums of money then Kewell could be available on a scale we are able and willing to pay.

Passing a medical is possible. Cruz, Dunn and Bellamy have had similar problems with injuries yet we got/are getting the best out of them. Can't not help to have a look, I am sure the Physios would have an opinion about how to handle it.

As for the desire to play for Rovers... well players on a downturn can reassess their position. Kewell might look at himself, think he has one last chance to make an impression before his career declines, and look at Hughes record of improving the players in his care and think that this might be a great opportuinity to make a bang like he did at Leeds. Through Emerton and Niell I am sure he is familiar with what Rovers are about, plus we are local enough for him not to have to move. He would know he would get a lot of games. Then again he might think we are beneath him, but if so he is going to be disappointed because I doubt anyone who is doing much better than us is going to be interested.

From his point of view and ours it has to be worth seriously considering. If he just doesn't look suitable once talks have been held, fair enough, but if we feel we could rehabilitate the Aussie then he is pretty much exactly what we need.

These kind of transfers are increasingly our bread and butter. This could be an absolute winner.

Harper's a brilliant player, I think he'd fit in perfectly to our midfield, especially alongside Vogel as Harper is a true box-to-box player. He gets a few goals as well, which is something we sorely lack at the moment in central midfield.

Unfortunately it looks like Reading will survive, in which case they'll be in a position to ask for a high fee.

Agreed. Harper is a superb athlete and a very useful player. He's very similar to Reid though who I think should be given a full season to rediscover his form.

a few members want to bring in nolan from notlob! Why on earth would we want to do that? The guy is quite simply rubbish and would make our squad weaker imo.

i heard he would never join us anyway so happy days. I hope we go after far better material this summer than nolan for god's sake.

see people discussing Kewell which would be an interesting move but i really like the look of James McFadden at Brum. Determined, energetic and can obviously score a few goals. can play both on the left and up-front.

This would obviously be dependant on Brum going down but i have the feeling he would want to carry on playing on the premiership and not the fizzy pop league. may command a high figure though (possibly supplemented by a few sales).

Ally, McFadden is a great shout, providing Birmingham do go down. He is a quality player and would vastly improve the left side of our midfield. God, we'd probably get more for MGP than we would have to pay for McFadden - now there's a thought!

No chance would we get more for MGP. Every club who would have wanted to buy him employs scouts and I'm sure his lack of goals/form this season will be well known to them.

I actually think we should look to hang on to MGP unless we get £3.5/4 million + for him. We should definitely go in for a new left winger but we'll still need backup and maybe MGP will be a bit better with the competition. Certainly don't think we should flog him for any price going.

Dempsey's a good shout.

Can somebody PLEASE explain to me what it is they see in Huddlestone? Sometimes I wonder if people are being influenced by the fact that he is young and British.

He's big and strong. He has good technique and is an excellent passer. His nationality is irrelevant. We would do well to get him on board.

Hang on, Steinson is one of the main reasons Notlob are nose-diving out of the Prem. He is no where near good enough for this level.

I suspect Hughes sees the same prospect for coaching Huddlestone to greatness that he saw when he picked Bentley up from a thoroughly undistinguished loan spell at Norwich.

From what I see of Huddlestone, he is a bit of a not very alert lump with a poor footballing brain but can put a football on a penny 40 yards away. I hope the alertness and awareness can be trained as few have the prodigious natural abilities he has.

Some realistic targets who might possibly be within our price range:

- Johnny Heitinga (Dutch international, Ajax)

Central midfield - even with Vogel coming in, I reckon this is our weakest position. Mokoena is dire, the legend Tugay might retire, and Dunn and Reid are both injury prone. Possible targets:

- Sebastian Kehl (German international, Borussia Dortmund)

- Mark Bresciano (Australian international, Palermo)

Forwards - both McCarthy and Roberts might move on, which means that we could do with another striker, such as:

- Alexander Frei (Swiss goal machine, Dortmund)

Some good players, however the above are definately outside of our scope. I watched Dortmund on the weekend and although they are playing horribly at the moment they have the quality in the squad to challenge at all levels, I can't see players leaving a big club like that for lil' ol' Rovers.

Now I don't profess to being a avid watcher of notlob but work with a staunch bolton fan. The concensus of opinion among the notlob fans is that if they still anelka they wouldn't go down. Steinson only joined in Jan so cannot be one of the main reasons Notlob are nose-diving out of the prem. I would suggest Bolton problems stem from no cash investment to back big sam's plans last Jan 07 which led to him leaving being replaced by little sam being replaced by megson who sold anelka and replaced him with 2 defenders (cahill + steinson) and rasiak (so called centre forward).

Now maybe steinson ain't good enough but he appears to be a big strong quick defender and could be a good addition to the squad given our shortcomings in this position and the reluctance to play Kane - (at least I think is natural position is RB no doubt I will be corrected if I am wrong.)

Totally agree.

Getting fitter by the game and as shown in his goal against Chelsea last week, has great technique.

That's Huddlestone by the way.

Ideally, I'd like us to strengthen the following positions:

Right back and centre back - I think it's glaringly obvious that we need to use Ooijer as a centre half, as he's our best man in that position. Samba has been below par for large parts of the season, and Nelsen has been off form (when he's not been out with injuries). Zurab is decent, but I still think we look a bit short in centre half, also considering the fact that Ooijer is 33. A specialist right back would also be an ideal acquisition, Emerton could do with some healthy competition. Some realistic targets who might possibly be within our price range:

- Philipp Degen (Young Swiss international, right back, Borussia Dortmund)

- Steve von Bergen (Swiss international, defender, Hertha Berlin)

- Johnny Heitinga (Dutch international, Ajax)

- Kew Jaliens (Dutch international, AZ)

- Brede Hangeland (Norwegian international, Fulham - I doubt he'll want to stick around at Craven Cottage if Fulham gets relegated)

Central midfield - even with Vogel coming in, I reckon this is our weakest position. Mokoena is dire, the legend Tugay might retire, and Dunn and Reid are both injury prone. Possible targets:

- Sebastian Kehl (German international, Borussia Dortmund)

- Mark Bresciano (Australian international, Palermo)

- Tom Huddlestone (Spurs)

- James Harper (Reading)

Left wing - MGP has been pretty terrible this season. A new left winger should be a main priority, unless Peter/Treacy step up and make the cut.

- Moussa Dembélé (Belgian international, AZ)

- Jefferson Farfan (PSV)

Forwards - both McCarthy and Roberts might move on, which means that we could do with another striker, such as:

- Theofanis Gekas (Greek goal machine, Leverkusen)

- Alexander Frei (Swiss goal machine, Dortmund)

- Kevin Doyle (Reading)

There are some good players there. Sebastian Kehl just signed a new contract with Dortmund so I doubt he would leave. I've seen Alex Frei play a number of times for Rennes, where he was the top goal scorer in Ligue 1, two seasons in a row. His move to Dortmund hasn't been as productive, but he is style of top class finisher and I'd love to have him.

Got to say Steinson looks beyond dismal from what I've seen of him...

Don't really want Bolton to go down. We could do with local derbies, which is why I'd like Burnley to come up (and us to thrash them..._

I am not his agent or anything but below are the comments from Louis Van Gaal re: Steinsson. I know its only the dutch lg but Oijjer was straight from this league took a while to settle and is now captain !

AZ Alkmaar manager, Louis van Gaal, has slammed the sale of star player Gretar Steinsson after his side has conceded 17 goals in 5 games since the Icelander left to join Bolton.

“It was not my choice to sell Gretar. I dont make choices at the top, other people do, but my personal opinion was the we should have kept the player.

“Its been difficult because we’ve lost a mainstay in the defence. Gretar has been the best right back in Holland for over two years so we cant expect to replace him straight away and we have suffered from that,” said van Gaal

Nelson Cuevas has his contract run out in june, therefore cost nothing, and is roques mate. Sounds like he is almost certainly signing as he meets both of hughes requirements cheap and an international! Does'nt sound like a world beater though!
