[Archived] Everton - the "Prestige Friendly"

Recommended Posts

I would also say that many voices have piped up saying we need championship experience to move forward. Well, we have signed a few with championship experience and then people moan that we got out passed and out thought by a very very good PL side. The fact is Everton have a much higher calibre of player in every department.

In less than three years the Venkymob have taken us from Everton's equals to this. Nothing that I didn't predict at the time but it still hurts.

There was nothing out there today from Rovers to suggest that they will be in the championship come next season.

Chris Taylor was the best player at Crewe and Wrexham that says it all Crewe and Wrexham .

Are you for real? Doesn't matter who you play, someone has to be the best player.

I'm actually bored of all the criticism. Not great today but it was one game. Last season, Bowyer was seen as a hero but now people are questioning him. Best solution? Sack him & lets have another 4 changes of management in the next 9 months.

Last season, people wanted work rate as we had the quality apparently. This season, he brought in the work rate, now they want the quality. I think we now have a fine balance of both but are lacking in a couple of areas of the park, which Bowyer has already accepted.

Chris Taylor. Chin up son, you'll be fine & I, for you, think you've looked good in pre-season overall (not just 45 minutes).

Sad but probably true Abbey. In fact I'd put money on BRFC going out of business over them getting back in the Prem.

good for you.

back to the game......

I noticed a kind of flair went off in the darwen end today, don't no why I say flair it was probably more of a little smoke bomb(prob similar to the ones used to check for leaks in chimneys or even just novelty shop ones), which are usually very safe to use, non toxic and cheap to buy(though they do leave a little mess behind) this seems to be a trend at the minute(and I kind of like it, they look cool) As I say they're not actual flairs(which can be dangerous and unnerving if your stood near it) so I don't see the problem myself.

Might be in order to ask a H&S specialist..... Oh and check your insurance.

That's the trouble with our squad. Too many 'useful' or 'deserve a chance' players and not enough 'shoe in's'

Can't believe this post has gone unnoticed cos for me it sums up the situation at our club perfectly.

Bang on aggy IMO.

i don't know why you say 'flair' either, it's flare, and if there was 'flair' in the DE you should have thrown it on the pitch. The team could do with some.wink.png

That'll be flares then, flair was sadly lacking from Rovers and to a certain extent Roberto's Everton.

For what it's worth we didin't look that bad for a championship side with Asda smart price signings, and we started to play a little when Rochina and Formica came on.

I was distracted looking around Ewood, a fanatically supported premiership side sending 6,000 supporters up the 58 for a friendly, and the rest of the ground pretty much a wasteland. A formerly successful premiership club (with a customer base that shouldn't work), dismantled criminally by clueless Indian peasants.

Does anybody know who was in the seats above the Technical Areas? From afar and with failing eyesight I fleetingly thought it was the Indians but there hasn't been any mention of them on this thread so far.

Yes, they were there.

Hurts so much I can't put it into words.Did the arrogant Pune pillocks turn up in their Rolls again? :glare:

This on the eve of a new season.

It is sort of funny reading this board. Bowyer criticised for being "keanesque" and for being honest about the state of our squad. No criticism intended towards either contributor - just shows how opinions on the same source material can vary wildly.

Personally i think that Bowyer wanted to make clear to the fans that this is not the finished product and he wants/expects to build a proper team whilst also being a very deliberate "nudge" to certain members of our squad that they should pack their bags and do one...

One word sums up today's performance and that is 'hopeless'.

No amount of spinning can gloss over just how far we have fallen.

I fear a long and painful season ahead.

I would have said hopeful.

Our midfield is lacking and we need a leftback but our fitness looked better, the players seemed to actually care and with Rochina and Best on the pitch we looked menacing. We aren't a premier league club anymore - we have a horrific legacy of mismanagement and crazy contracts but we aren't competing with everton this season - we are competing with bolton, burnley, doncaster et al. Stick a better central midfield and a proper left back in that team and we are instantly top ten IF the fitness and enthusiasm can be maintained (again IMO)

Have we fallen - yes. Have we fallen as far as pompey and leeds - not yet :glare:

You haven't been around for a bit Mercerman, what could have brought you back to this forum?

Errrr...last game before the season starts, these 2 were on the @#/? bench for @#/? sake.....if this guy thinks that a midfield of marrow, Lowe, judge and stonehouse aren't heading for relegation, then he's a prick. Serious questions need to be asked about the quality brought in....absolute garbage.

Not sure but wasn't rochina forced to miss training with a slight injury during the week? Best still has to prove himself - today he looked good, other games he has looked lost. Rhodes is our star striker and wasn't going to be dropped for this.

As for the players coming in, a simple test: are they going to contribute more to the team than Murphy, Orr and Vukcevic?

Is really necessary to call Gary Bowyer a 'prick' at this stage in his tenure and after pre season friendly?
