Tomasson's desire to leave in summer should have been resolved there and then. Leaving him in situ was never, in a million years, going to work out well this season.

I’ve defended JDT a lot and will continue to do so. I know a lot don’t agree with it, but that’s what being a fan is, caring about something and not always agreeing on what’s best for that thing.

Definitely a rollercoaster, some real ups and downs. I think on balance, the majority of issues we’ve faced in his tenure have been club-led/-instigated, but definitely some accountability to be taken for position by JDT. Best for all of us if we don’t labour those points any more than we have done the past week.

I will miss his pre-match pressers, I thank him for the good memories (last year’s goal of the season was mind-blowing to watch at the time, properly joyous) and will rue the missed opportunities (layer of paint away from Hedges firing us into the FA Cup semi-final; a bad decision or 6 away from the playoffs).

As an aside - the politics will be different at international level, but I think he’ll suit the role and do well.

Think it's a weird move for a supposedly ambitious manager at his age. With the best will in the world it's a struggle for Sweden to even qualify for tournaments these days, let alone do anything in any. Should have stuck around in England and backed himself to get to the Prem with a better run Championship club than ours.

Who has said Tomasson wanted to leave in the summer?

All I have seen is Tomasson himself confirming that he offered the club the chance to get rid of him without him claiming compensation, an offer the club declined.

That isn't the same as him wanting to leave.

But I see the narrative is being gradually laid down, block by block. Within a few days it will be all about JDT not being committed to Rovers, wanting to be elsewhere, should never have started the season, and if he ends up in the Sweden job this will be evidence of his 'non commitment'.

End result of all this is, as ever, to shift the conversation away from the real cause of his departure.

I understand he also moved his wife and kids over to the UK which is hardly the conduct of a bloke who doesn't want to be here and who intends on leaving at any moment.

The problem is none of them were replaced well enough. Kaminski was replaced with Wahlstedt & I think everyone would agree that he is significant downgrade. Diaz no one has come close to replacing, I supposed Sigurdsson is supposed to be the replacement but it is hard to envisage him scoring the same amount of goals. Dack still featured in 33 games last season and when he was let go I'm sure the manager was hoping that he would be replaced with a better player given his wage but in reality he hasn't been replaced at all, I mean just look at the attacking options to bring off the bench last week.

Ayala started half our league games last season and was by far our most experienced defender, we kept 9 clean sheets in the games he started and only 5 in the games he didn't (and in one of those he came on as sub), in the summer his experience at the back was not replaced. Midfield was an area that we were light in last season losing Morton, loaning out Buckley and only bringing in Tronstad has only served to make us even lighter in there.

When Tomasson updates his CV to say Manager of Blackburn 22-24 it won't be anywhere near telling the full story. It's fair to say he was a slow burner and the style of football he played was menial and predictable. Burnley and Preston either side of the World Cup break almost broke me and my patience was wearing extremely thin. Then something changed. He found a way to play which was exciting and it was at times exhilarating. Some real high points half way through the close season the bombshell thrown by the owners left us all bewildered and in truth fearful. A good start to the season and then from December onwards we fell off a cliff with some awful performances both individually and collectively. I believe there were some mitigating factors here but ultimately a manager lives or dies by results. The manner of his departure though is something I personally will not forgive or forget and the part played by certain people should have them hanging their heads in shame.

He was honest, perhaps too honest for some but for me it was a breath of fresh air. Whilst the players didn't have a personal relationship with him I am told that they all respected him and he treated them all the same and importantly fairly. Perhaps he was the right manager at the wrong time as he was given next to nothing to work with.

I wish him well and will be watching his progress with Sweden keenly.

Will miss his cheery demeanour.  He was a great bloke who clearly cared about the club. He was let down by charlatans around him. Just a shame he came to us in the wrong era. Had he had John Williams above him he would have been a success

For me, he’s the best manager we have had since Big Sam. He gave us hope, dared to dream and connected with the fan base, for once an honest man who told it as it was. Unless this shit show is the beginning of the end for Swag and forces the Raos to sell, we will have lost our best hope and a talent manager for nowt. Thank you and farewell Jon, you did your best to deliver our Rovers back to the downbeaten fan base.
