In the first half of 92 when he scored 16 goals by December and before his first serious injury he was lightning quick and quite simply unstoppable.

Never quite the same after that imo but successfully adapted his game after that and also  after a further serious injury to become an all time great.

Without the injuries there'd be no debate about the greatest Premier League player imo, it'd be a different debate.

I was lucky enough to meet him just over a year ago. Very friendly and spent time discussing my highlights of his Rovers career. Top bloke.

I can't narrow it down either but his first goal on his debut at that shitty club Palace kind of set the tone.

The debut goals at palace will take some beating tbf. Either of those are probably my favourite

Back in 1992 on the 27th July he joined Rovers. What a signing and true Rovers legend. Best striker I've ever

My favourite Shearer goal was the winner in injury time against Leeds in 1994 that nearly started a riot in the Darwen End with their fans. They deserved the pain of that one after they had sang through the Busby minutes silence.

Not the most important (although it was at the time) but so satisfying.

Two left footed players crossing the ball in from the left. It’ll never catch on. They need to be playing on the other wing and coming inside into heavy traffic.

Impossible task to say who greatest Rover was. Depends on what criteria.

Bob Crompton probably ticks most boxes but as he is, even to our oldest forumites, a name in the record books he doesn't get that emotional pull.

Ronnie and Dougie will be the ones for those watching from the 60's I guess 

Garner for my era as a hero - but not the greatest player tbh. That has to be Shearer.

I feel for those who have only been watching since 2010. There might have been a 'cult' hero - Dack for example - but with the constant circus that is now our club - the likelihood of another club legend coming along seems very remote.

Sad times indeed

You never see Shearer type striker in football. Football has moved on but this era is the best I ever know.

I suppose Haaland is the nearest at the moment. Not in Shearer’s league though. Prime Shearer would possibly have scored in every game if he was in the City team of a season or two back.

My view is we only saw him at his real prime before the first injury. He lost half a yard of pace after that. He was still prolific but not quite as quick as he was before. After the other injury at Newcastle he lost another half a yard. Did he ever score with a left footed thunderbolt apart from the goal against Utd. ?  I can’t remember many.

He did lose a half a yard, but seemed to get stronger and more powerful as he grew, so maybe he was a better centre forward for it during the 94,95,96?

I agree, though, the pace he had early on made him more of a threat running in behind and down the channels and wings. Best attacking player I've seen. Duff deserves a mention too. My dad says it's Duggie, mind you.

Good question. I had a look at his Rovers goals to find any other left footed ones that weren’t tap ins.

The only one i found from the video below is 9- Wimbledon away (40 seconds into video).

Maybe goal number 31 (3mins42) shows why he didn’t use his left as much?
