Yeah if they win their remaining 4 games they'll better all of City's points totals over the last 4 years

It's been a funny season. I've read lots of articles saying the same; the league is weak etc. etc. However, as @waynerovers posted Liverpool could end up with 90+ points so they have done really well.

Aside from Liverpool running away with it and the useless bottom 3 the league has been much more even this season. Man U and Spurs languishing in the bottom half. Forest surprising everyone. Newcastle and Villa have the ability to beat anyone. Boring big spenders Chelesa may miss out on 5th too. If Palace hadn't started so badly they'd be eyeing the top 6.

Also spent 60 Million in Agents fees....talk about Pigs around the trough.

That's probably about 500k per player signed.

Crazy.

Tbf Ipswich spent £150m to come 18th and get relegated with four games to spare. Makes me fear what would happen if by some miracle we actually got promoted under Venky's. How much would they realistically spend? Would it even be a third of what Ipswich have? Could genuinely see us taking Derby's crown as worst ever PL team. Meanwhile at best they'd use the PL & parachute payments to reset us to a fairly even keel before going back to screwing us over again for another decade.

Positive thinking obviously not my strong suit tonight 🤣

All time top division

Good that. We were up there in the top few clubs in the country, from the start of the football league until just a few years ago. During that time, two things changed things.

- The abolition of the maximum wage in 1961

- The arrival of Venky’s in 2010

Thanks to Jack’s vision and a lot of hard work, we managed buck the trend of most clubs that were of a similar size and standing to ourselves, following the 1961 change in wage structures.

It seems like it will be a lot harder to rid ourselves of the cancer of Venky’s.

Embarrassing for the rest of Europe that the PL's 14th and 16th placed teams appear to be cruising into the Europa League final. In United's case beating the 4th placed French and Spanish teams along the way. Spurs beat the team who are 3rd in the Bundesliga.

Are the other European leagues really that poor these days outside of the top 2/3 teams?

Comes down to money,

The Deloitte Football money league publishes an annual top 30 clubs based on revenue.  The most recent of which contained 14 Premier League teams in the top 30 (and 6 in the top 10)

Sticks in the throat that 2 teams in any other season without a total dross bottom 3 would be looking over their shoulders seriously at Championship football next year , will be looking at Champions League and a european trophy. The global behemoth of the Premier League total distorting our own pyramid and across Europe.

I really just wish both clubs got what they deserve from this year, relegated and nowt.

Lets be honest Spurs and Man United shouldn't be in their current league positions given their squad. Spurs have been hit by injuries to key players. United players didn't perform for Ten Hag and its taken time for Amorim to get his own ideas across

They're still performing poorly in the PL, though, so neither of those things have changed. Spurs have lost 5 of their last 6 matches (3 on the spin as of now). United haven't won in 5 league matches and still look as dire as ever outside of Europe. They should both be in the position they're in because they've been poor over the season and continue to be so.

I think they'll both improve next season, but it's amazing that this season they are both likely to end up in the Europa League final. it's a huge missed opportunity for the other European clubs imo.

Spurs and United have put their efforts in this competition in recent weeks ignoring the league hence why they have rested players in Spurs case.

I don't the European competitions so can't comment to much on what teams are like or quality wise

To be honest Bilbao looked alright until they went down to 10, at which point they just seemed to fall apart. If they'd kept it to 1-0 I think they would have had a chance in the second leg, but 3-0 seems like it'll be really difficult to come back from.

I appreciate the league is a lost cause for Spurs and Ange probably sees winning the Europa League as his only chance of salvation at this point, but still, the majority of Spurs fans are going to be attending their league matches rather than European matches. It's a risky gamble.

United have just got fortunate with opposition red cards in the last couple of games.

Lyon would have beaten them with 11, and should still have beaten them with 10 but for a spectacular collapse.

Bilbao went down to 10 and fell apart.

Loving the implication that United have been regularly embarrassing themselves in the league infront of 70,000 paying home supporters, and getting dumped out of the cup at home to Fulham, just to concentrate on the Europa League.

Spurs could still screw up an all Premier League final, but if it happens I’m not sure who I’d want to win. Probably Spurs, but I do like these supposed ‘giant’ clubs not winning things for years and years.
