I’ve not seen the incident but I don’t think slow motion replays should ever be allowed.

It always makes it look worse.

It’s a bit like when you’re waiting to come on as a sub. The game looks to be going at a million miles an hour from the touchline, Once you get on you soon get used to it.

My thinking is if the error by the ref is only picked up at slow motion how can it have been a clear and obvious one?

I do think that the ref should have stuck with original decision with that Gordon's tackle. When you slow it down, the tackle looks worst and worst. I think Gordon does try to pull out but his momentum takes into van Dijk .

I think it was a blatant red at any speed, he’s gone in to do him not win the ball.

The fact he’s tried to pull out is irrelevant as he still raked him down the calf.

Stupid from the lad

I don't for one minute think Gordon has gone in to do him at all. Dont think he's that type of players

That old chestnut. No one is ever "that type of player."

He probably didnt go out to injure him, he was probably just pumped up. But his challenge was high, wreckless and out of control and a red card was to be expected.

He's gone in at force and he's out of control, proven by the fact he has actually 'tried' to pull out of it but is so out of control that he can't and has still ended up raking him down the calf.

That's old chestnut, lets not believe it, cos I don't agree

yet the ref in real time give a yellow, replays always make it look much worse than it is.

So the ref gave a yellow because he didn't think Gordon was that type of player?

That doesn’t matter he was out of control

There was a period of the game when Newcastle players just seemed to collectively lose their heads. Gordon's tackle was definitely a red.

Thought Slot's post-game comments were a bit disingenuous, suggesting Newcastle were hoofing & fouling their way through the game. Other than a small period where they did seem to lose a bit of control, I don't think that was a fair reflection of the game at all. I can only assume he was deflecting from another questionable performance from his team. It could be the old "good team winning games whilst playing badly" trope, or it could be warning signs that there are things that need to be addressed in that team.

It was a sending off. I'll offer the two rather long stud marks on van Dijk's calf as evidence. Gordon did try to pull out. He did bend his knees at the last second but still caught van Dijk on his standing leg. The "not that type of player" tag is an illusion. All professional footballers have an aggression that could get the better of them. Some either control it, or are rarely in situations where it boils over for them.

The emotion of the game both helped and hurt Newcastle. It allowed them to force Liverpool into mistake after mistake but it got the better of the aforementioned Gordon. Guimares and Joelinton spend most games booting people and were both lucky to stay on. Burn hoofed Salah who managed to get up so Burn did it again. Should he have gone? The ref booked him for the first challenge when he eventually blew the whistle. Even Trippier

Slot definitely does need to sort out his defence. Konate has had a shocking start to the season. Kerkez has been at fault for 2 goals because he didn't defend the back post properly.

Isn't that his 3rd straight red card? That seems a lot for a winger who is not that sort of player.
