I hope he has the foresight to do other qualifications while trying to recover. A career in football is easy to get at his age if you want one.

Really disappointed to hear this, really thought he was going to establish himself in the team but the injuries have been so cruel to him

Good luck Zac

A shame but not unexpected. Could be a real player there but he's lost a lot of development time at first team level due to his injuries. Highly likely he'll need to drop down to League 2 after getting injury free and re-starting his career.

If we sign a box to box midfielder for me we need to sale a few.

Buckley JRC Jake Batty Dilan Garrett

I think we'll be pushing to get all of those out the door. Markanday is out of contract I think, with a possible year extra if we activate it, which we'd only do to generate a small amount in a sale.

I'd not get rid of Batty just yet. Doesn't seem to have reached the levels expected but I hear positive reviews from those who have watched him regularly at Stanley this season.

I'd have taken up the option on Gilsenan and really worked on a tailored fitness regime over the summer and pre-season as I think he could have been a real difference maker if fit. Appreciate the history may not suggest he would but surely worth one final try as the lads clearly got talent, or maybe they think we've got Kargbo now who can play leftwing so clearing wages. Really gutted for Zak as thought he was/could be a real gem.

Shame for Gilsenan but we can’t just indefinitely keep paying him in the hope he’ll stay fit when evidence suggests that isn’t likely to happen

Hope we take the same approach to JRC, who has a similar fitness record. And costs a lot more to keep.

He must be a wreck, physically, because you know he'd be cheap to keep around.

Released gilsenen on his birthday, ice cold

I am more bothered about whether it is the right decision, rather than on which day it was made.

Not sure the club have confirmed it, also we don't know when he was informed of the decision, it may have been days/weeks ago

Even if we get a few hundred thousand it's worth taking up the option.

In all fairness, it was announced by Jackson, not the club. So Gilsenan would already have been advised prior to his birthday... should that worry you in the slightest

Shame about Gilsenan getting released. Thought he had potential but his career has been hampered by injuries. Still would've triggered that one-year extension and then trying to find a National League or League Two club to sell to and insert a 40-50 % sell-on clause. Only 22 so can imagine him reaching perhaps Championship level one day if he stays injury-free for the next few years.

poor gilsenen the same as the unfortunate sam barnes, talented players but their careers blighted by injury, don`t think barnes has played at all this season

I think hes just got back playing again recently. I'm sure i saw a tweet from Barrow about it.

Couple of sub apps but it's a start 🤞

Edit: didn't realise he'd been released (as per the above post)

If you are repeatedly highlighting one of his two assists from the entire season, similar to when it was repeated mentions of his solitary goal v Watford the season before. It suggests there isnt too much else to go at.

Experienced? Yes. So is David Dunn, shall we get him back? Can play different positions? Not really, left and right wing, equally ineffective on either side. Good enough? No.

It is about standards. We take the easy option of signing cheap players to pad the squad out, and when they play the decline in quality compared to the starters helps to cause us to lose momentum and go on terrible runs.

Low standards leads to the he will do mentality, he did one or two good things over the course of a season. Rinse and repeat.

Im sick of this club just making do. Im not expecting Rodri and Vinicius Junior to be squad members, im not even expecting them to be as good as Travis/Tronstad necessarily. But players who will genuinely challenge and at least keep them on their toes, players who would be capable of filling in if the starters are injured or even desperately in need of a break and wouldnt massively weaken the team in doing so.

Lewis Baker coming in did that to an extent, if he started it wasnt quite Travis or Tronstad but it was good competition. Forshaw was a massive downgrade.

Spot on. Wingers are governed by goal contributions. Which he has not a lot of. He’s shit.

i hope gilsenen gets a club and starts afresh, though if the club thought he could get 100% fit in the unrelenting championship i  don` think they`de have released him him, think barnes will now drop into non league, cruel game football

Isn't he a left back, or lwb ?

Can't see it with Ribeiro and Pickering here and Powell also. Unless they let Pickering go ?

been playing on the right winger and left winger.
