Any predictions or ITK on where Buckley and Pears are off to, and what kind of price?

Personally, anything above L1 and ยฃ750,000 each would be a success for all involved. Add ons wouldn't be a terrible idea due to nationality, "potential" and age. If JRC could go for ยฃ1m it might not be as crazy to hope for similar.

Pears is useless, but look at the career Steele has had since we cheered his departure. 30+ EPL appearances for a 26yr old GK at ยฃ500k.ย

All this assuming money even matters at this football club. With our 15% reinvestment since V*nkys took over.

With Dolan, Brittain, Buckley, JRC and Pears all departing, our squad all of a sudden is going to be fairly thin on ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ players. Travis, Cantwell, Pickering, Wharton, Carter, Alebiosu, Forshaw and Tyjon are the only ones in the whole squad. 8/25.

Agreed, got to give Gestede credit for not messing around.
Must be difficult working with a shoelace.ย

No sign of a loan either which is good.

Quite looking forward to when the loans start happening,it's shopping at a higher level than we can afford without the risk.

Wonder if we mightย  try the foreign loan market , if that's allowed.ย

The year when we nearly went down?

All I am saying is that there is no point downplaying that some of the players we have lost were important players for us. We have people even implying that Brittain wasnt as good as he was.

Most if not all teams will have lost players that were important to them last season.ย

Brittain was obviously very good for this level anyone being honest would say that, also proven by rivals wanting and one ultimately getting him.

All teams will have swill of players course your right on that, I would just echo the perceptions of a few other posters this morning suggesting itโ€™s nice to see a more proactive approach thatโ€™s not relying on loans. Of course, as a few point out, a lower budget = more gambling but if you go back to the premier league days, some of our best signings came for cheap, especially during the trust and John Williams time.

The levels we got from getting multiple international captains, like Nelsen, Ooijer, Mokoena et al for the prices we did. Obviously this is a complete different kettle of fish but I just prefer punts like this than loans or 30+ year olds on short contracts.ย

ย venky/pasha thinking

the academy lads will take the place of departed players to fill out the squad, will be a dismal failure we all know that, barring montgomery and tyjon, the rest of them ar`nt ready for 1st team football

Sadly what you're asking for in a player is someone we probably won't be able to afford. For example, if Kargbo was a better decision maker he'd be playing at a higher level.ย
ย

ย

Yes, but if you're going to try and turn us into Harry Bassett's Wimbledon or John Beck's Cambridge the players at your disposal have to be VERY good indeed at implementing the system and style of play otherwise it doesn't work.

Doubtful whether it works these days anyway imo.

Kargbo looked absolutely unplayable yesterday.... For 10 minutes and then forgot he was on the pitch.

Was it a fitness issue? I can't tell

No, this was how he was vs Wolves. Had a great start and was then worked out/faded.ย

Probably why he's primarily coming off the bench.

More a โ€œletโ€™s stop letting them have the ballโ€ issue.ย

Buckley AND Pears!

Now I understand what RG was on about in his interview. He said exciting, I say taking a Hail Mary.

VI obviously made it a condition of joining that doing the same things over and again and expecting different results is not on. He's decided to bin most of the team and start again.

Brave man.

With the exception of Brittain I'm not going to miss any of the departures, DB maybe but as others have said - ageing and injury prone.

I doubted it before but I think Trav going may actually be on the cards given the clear out.

VI is taking his punt and for good or bad reasons RG is going along with it. We could be looking at a near completely new team this year. Someone somewhere is confident and backing themselves though I confess it's not me.

Good luck VI, you're going to need it I think.

I dont see it as a change in the style of play so much as a concerted drive to replace slightly more expensive players with cheaper ones all over the pitch.

I'm still not sure how VI thinks it can possibly work as I don't believe he's naive or stupid.

The year we nearly got relegated?ย

Perfect response! And but for Szmodics we would have been relegated. And he's not here anymore.

IMO the squad is lower in overall quality than either 1 or 2 years ago (assuming Brittain and Trav leave).

Will depend on any new signings as to whether squad has more depth. E.g. Are two ok RB's better than 1 good RB with a U21'sย  player as cover,?

Despite the stick he gets on here, Pears is average championship keeper standard I would say.ย  His problem is, with a week to go to the new season all teams surely have a first choice keeper sorted now.ย  I doubt he wants to play second fiddle, so he's not in an ideal situation.....

I can see Buckley going to league 1 or even 2 purely on loan though as his wages will be a stretch for most teams.ย  He will sulk about the place wherever he goes, if anywhere.

Last time we totted up, are we on about 22 if Brittain goes and 23 if Miller comes in?

Partly maybe but also with explosive pace itโ€™s difficult to keep that up, my main worry with him is his hamstrings exploding at any momentย

I think it's both. There is a very, very clear profile of player being targeted - athletic, tall, and fairly young. I think our crappy budget has necessitated expensive players leaving, and little money to spend on replacements, but Ismael has clearly said he wants a certain type of player.

Brittain, Batth, Beck and Dolan were all part of our best 11 last season and will be huge misses. Weimann will also be a miss as a squad player who can pop up with goals.

No point pretending otherwise.

No drop off in our performances/consistency wins/losses without beck he was covered by picks and ribeiro - the rest I agreeย

Gestede credit?

He will have known for months we wouldn't be offering contracts that our better players would sign on forย

It is a week before the season starts , we have lost 4 from our strongest 11 and our 2nd top scorer and bar 1 signing(and even that signing was playing for a team nearly relegated last season)none of us know wether they will be any good in the Championship

With respect credit would come if these players turn out to be Championship standard and we don't end up in a relegation battleย

We do Venkies don't.ย  You and I both feel the plan is relegation this season.ย  Let's see but I think it is going to be a dismal campaign.ย  Got me debating with myself whether I want to bother with the subscriptions to keep up.

We looked a much better team with Beck in it and Beck is a better player than Ribiero

One of the stories can't be true. Val said we were close with one, otherwise he'd of said 2.ย
ย

Like many have said, I can't see us bringing both players in, maybe with a normal club but we leave things to the bare minimum here.ย

We've been "close" with several now have we not?ย  Failing for one reason or another to land decent to good players but always managing to land the dross without incident or hesitation.ย  Things that make you go mmmmm.

At the minute, and I'm including Pears, Buckley & Leonard and just replacing Brittain for Miller, we would need to register 22 of the current players in our first team squad.

We also then have the likes of Goddard, Michelski, Duru, Atcheson, Litherland, Batty, Montgomery and Tyjon on the fringes who don't need to he registered.

I suspect what he says in public and what he thinks in private are two entirely different things.

Stats would suggest similar levels and similar results - itโ€™s ok if you prefer a player over another but thereโ€™s no direct correlation in rovers form or results with beck in or out of the team.

hence me saying as we have cover there itโ€™s not a massive lossย
