So Szmodics admits he refused to play for the team to force through move to Ipswich

Does this put him on the same level as Gestede then, or is all forgiven?

Not really no.Szmodic refused to play in pre season, he took part when the league kicked off again.

no. He scored in both games he played in and his performances was still very good and no dropped off in standards or work rate

At least he refused to play for the team whilst off the pitch, rather than Brereton Diaz who refused to play for 6 months whilst on the pitch.

Anyway, whatever. He played in competitive matches and continued to be our best player until he was sold.

Refusing to play in the hope of forcing a move - it's probably not unusual. but I have to say I find his admission selfish and appalling. 

Rovers were paying his wages and he's effectively gone on a one-man strike.  - I wonder how the rest of the squad felt.  There was no reason why he could not have trained as usual for the start of the new season while talks between the clubs went on in the background

So yes, he's in the same bracket as Gestede and no doubt many others who behaved similarly - and he's gone down in my estimation.

If he's still at Ipswich he should be getting a (not so) warm reception at Ewood next season

He did play at Accrington for 45 minutes in pre season and went off injured (I saw him post match in a protective boot - really over the top). He scored in the first game against Derby after coming on as a substitute and started against Stockport scoring twice. 

In both appearances he was the fully committed player he always was.

To compare him to Gestede is totally unfair in my view.

Honesty is the best policy and something sadly lacking in the Ewood boardroom so fair play to him he isn't the first and won't be the last but he has the balls to admit it.

Never ever let us down on the pitch even just before he moved unlike one or two others.

To be fair and to use the full sentence on that, he described it as moving from a 'massive club' to 'another massive' club, which he felt extremely lucky to have represented both.

He worked hard in the games he did play for us, so no complaints from me.

Why on earth would he say any of this stuff!? It's ridiculously naïve.  Why didn't his agent stop him.  He has to come back to Ewood this season, why get everybody's back up with stupid unnecessary comments like that.

He was a legend at our club and held in great regard by the fans now it turns out he gave us two fingers and told the club to do one. Don't know about you but I love rejection.  What kind of reaction does he anticipate?

If he aspires to get into coaching after his playing career is ended he's pissing on his chips with any return to us.

I defo would have given him real good round of applause when he came back to play against us but after treating us with such disrespect he'll get an earful.

Self centred and entitled like all the rest of the overpaid footballing pre Madonnas, absolutely no respect for those who make them as rich as they are.

Not in the Derek Dougan class of downing tools but there's not much difference

Sammie's spoilt it for me and has tarnished his time at Ewood

Some are overreacting here. We are currently a selling club, especially to PL teams. If any player gets a chance to play in the PL, they'll take it. In the case of Szmodics, he pretty much single-handedly kept us in the Championship during season 23/24 and deserves to be appreciated for that.

We should be way more concerned as to why the club is not reinvesting the money generated from player sales to push the team forward.

A scenario: man woos a woman, the woman falls for the man, they marry and make their legal covenants to each other. The wife then gets tempted by another bloke with more cash and pisses off.

A question: do you reflect on the warm memories of the good times or do feel aggrieved at the treatment you received?

He was hardly 'forcing' a move anyway he was gone the min they made a serious bid the haggling was just over the fee and terms of it.

His release clause had been hit so he was fully entitled to go for that figure it's a legal agreement as far as we know. Fact is he turned out in some games afterwards and risked injury blowing it for him. If he was the twohat some are making him out to be he would have flatly refused like no doubt quite a few others have.

mmm fair question, if nothing else he earned a ton of respect and now he's earned the disrespect (mine at least). But then I feel the same about Shearer and he was a legend (or is that a leg end mmm).
