I like Ismael’s attitude there. At the least he tells it like it is. 4 Quote
Trinidad Rover Posted yesterday at 09:09 Posted yesterday at 09:09 (edited) Believe by our standards we spent 'decent' money on Tavares. So far proving to be what most expected, crap. This will not go down well with our resident dictators. Expect Gestede is fuming and currently thinking up an excuse/blaming the Telegraph and fans for being mean. Dreams of 1995 Posted yesterday at 09:13 Posted yesterday at 09:13 Tavares looks like a tidy player on the ball but he's clearly used to a different pace. He's far too nonchalant and looks to be a victim of the youth academies mentality of "not worrying if you lose it when trying to play the right way" That luxury ends in senior football. Perhaps he needs reminding of it. There's a time and a place to be cute; there's a time and a place to play tight and safe. If Tavares can master that, then there's a decent player in there 6 Quote
because of boxing day Posted yesterday at 10:41 Posted yesterday at 10:41 At the moment he looks like a Buckley Mk2 needing a little too much time on the ball before progressing play but I agree that there is a player in there if he adapts to a quicker game pace in the regular congested midfield battleground. Not sure that our midfield would be sufficiently robust for the typical Championship midfield battles with both Tavares and Cantwell in the starting eleven. Quote
metalrover Posted yesterday at 12:25 Posted yesterday at 12:25 (edited) Tavares replacement for Travis is a massive gamble, which has so far backfired miserably. The sheer numbers of cheap unknown signings from foreign leagues lower divisions replacing proven 1st team players is clear evidence of their transfer policy having zero ambition or any regards to risking the club's Championship status. den Posted yesterday at 12:52 Posted yesterday at 12:52 Selling quality players and replacing them with cheap gambles is what they did when they took over a mid table Premier league side. That relegated us and with the very odd signing it’s what they’ve been doing for 15 years now. They aren’t going to change. For the fans that know we can and have done better than that, it’s a killer. 2 Quote
neophox Posted yesterday at 12:58 Posted yesterday at 12:58 (edited) This is exactly what he needs. A kick on the arse, its time to start produce. We hade the same with some players under JDT who was left out to play with the u21s then coming back stronger. Edited yesterday at 12:59 by neophox Quote
Hasta Posted yesterday at 14:58 Posted yesterday at 14:58 It's a good job we got Gardner-Hickman done on deadline day. I'm not saying he's been good, but at least it gave us a viable alternative to Tavares who we knew could perform to a certain level (League One / Bottom Championship). Jake Garrett seriously comes under consideration for the bench once he's back, which is something last year you'd have scoffed at. Quote
Tomphil2 Posted yesterday at 16:35 Posted yesterday at 16:35 Is Garret even getting any games on loan ? Seems our super academy conveyor belt has come to a grinding halt judging by those who've been sent out to get mins not getting many. Quote

Centre back O'Riordan is doing well from reports. On the others, dont know. Maybe @KentExilecould add more to this The loan moves out seem to have been badly chosen (mores than previously) in the main this season O'Riordan has been a success, he missed the weekends game with an ankle injury, apparently he was touch and go, so shouldn't be out for long Edmondson has been doing well at Macclesfield, quite possibly he may get a loan to a 5th tier team in January, I would say or 4th tier, but think that Rovers may be scared of doing so based on what has happened to the rest of our loanees this season Pratt has just has his initial loan extended by a month by Chorley, although he has not played a lot for them, seems to be on the bench more often than not. As far as i remember,. this was the only loan which was started or extended following Jordan Rhodes being appointed as loan manager (I would have expected a lot more, last season we sent out a huge amount of players on short term loans, and expected similar to happen again) Barrett warms the bench for Tranmere, although may play this week in the EFL cup Olson & O'Grady-Macken can't even get on the Oldham bench in League games, although they may feature in the EFL cup this week Garrett is injured rather than out on loan Duru doesn't get on the bench in the USA, and apparently has a "questionable lower body injury", whatever that means Edited yesterday at 17:38 by KentExile 1 Quote

Personally I think he is a long way behind Buckley at the moment. I am struggling to see how even if he gets up to pace of English football he will be much better than Buckley. Quote
roversfan99 Posted yesterday at 18:38 Posted yesterday at 18:38 And to think after the home defeat to League 1 Bradford, we had one or two saying how we had likely found an upgrade on Travis. 2 Quote

Meaning he’s still here. And last week the Rovers website , when stating Baradji was a “longer term” absentee stated that the under 21 game on Friday would come “too soon” for Carter and Garrett. 1 Quote
ruggles1995 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago with Bradji now likely to not feature till probably December, and forshaw being injured, we really are short at cm. The international breaks have probably helped us a little in terms of keeping our cm duo of hinckman and tronstad fresh ish. Tavares needs to pull his finger out and adapt, or the start of saturday\tuesday matches are going to take its toll on a thin\lack of quality squad. We are already struggling with practically a full squad to select from let alone add more injuries to a couple that can actually do a job at this level. Take cantwell and either tronstad or hinckman out, then we really are bottom of the barrel team. Quote
ruggles1995 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago thinking about the shortness of cm, could pickering fill in if needed? square peg in round hole and all that? 🤷♂️ Quote

Not saying he is the answer but Forshaw can't be a million miles off a return, hasn't he played in some U21's games? Unless he's broken down again. Edited 9 hours ago by davulsukur Quote

I presume that will be revisited in January when his loan is due to expire. - Olson: A shame he's struggling to break into a middling L2 side. Maybe he's simply hitting his level and he is turning 21 next month, but you also want to give CBs a bit more growing space. There can still be some value in 'unsuccessful' loans in terms of sniffing out whether a player's good enough (if he can't force his way into a L2 side...), but looking like a poor loan. - Pratt: huh, didn't realise how little he's played so far, but presumably a reason they extended that loan. Kinda like Olson, I don't think he's considered one of our blue chip CBs in the first place, like Atcheson/Litherland (I'm more curious if/when those two will get a loan!) - Barrett: He was an odd signing (and re-signing...) in the first place, so who knows with that one! Not too bothered with him only getting that one Cup app so far... - Duru / O'Grady-Macken: Lumping these together as, whatever the merits/success of their loans, it sounds like both cases were more a matter of shipping a player out than a development loan, which is a shame (more about Duru, no idea about O'Grady-Macken other than his random sub cameo!) Maybe I'm being too forgiving/blase, but aside from some disappointment about Duru apparently being shipped out, and Olson stalling, the O'Riordan and maybe Edmondson loans are the only relevant ones to me (not that I don't appreciate your loan reports 🙂) (FYI on the 'questionable' terminology, that's borrowed from the NFL and other N American sports where injuries are often classified pre-game as either 'doubtful' (less than 25%) or 'questionable' (50% or less) in terms of their likelihood of being available to play. It's a regulation related to betting/not letting teams hide or surprise with injuries) Edited 5 hours ago by RoverCanada 1 Quote
