A big hill to climb for Vals squad. Coventry brushed aside Sheffield Wednesday this weekend and will be looking to continue their impressive start.

I don't know where to begin in dismantling city

Coventry are one of very few teams in this division who look like the real deal. The difference between us and them is tragically vast these days, and the best we can realistically hope for is a smash and grab.

I have a weird feeling that Rovers might just do that; come away with all 3 points whilst deserving none.

Then lose at home to Sheff Utd.

The international break might have just landed at the perfect time for us, to disrupt Coventry's current form.

That's clutching at straws though really, if we are being honest.

I think we're taking a humping here, 4-0 minimum.

Lampard has done a super job with them.

Quick and incisive football and look like they are scoring goals for fun.

The international break might stall their momentum a tad but this could be anything from 2 to 7 nil.

A hammering here might just finish us given fixtures to come before the end of November.

If we don't take a point or all 3 off sheff United it's goodnight Vienna

I have been to Coventry about 6 times from memory and my record is P6 L6. Yep, that's nul points out of 18

So why am I thinking of going again? Because it can't get any worse (can it?) and if we were somehow able to secure a point it will feel like a win.

And of course this could be our last season in the Championship for some considerable time - so it will sad but poignant to see 2 clubs heading in opposite directions.

Rovers now remind me so much of Coventry City....when they were on the slide years ago.

Bogey team at the best of times and we rarely come out of international breaks without the handbrake still on.

Cov 3   Rovers  0

But we live in hope.

Probably should get easily beaten but this is the Championship where any result is possible at any time.

I was really heartened to see how hard the team fought second half against Stoke. Made me a bit more positive.

Who would buy Blackburn Rovers?

Let's not take inspiration from the opposition, flying high on and off the pitch with savvy commercials and rebuying previously sold club assets!

I think I'm similar.  I went with a Coventry supporting friend and sat in their end (sorry all) as they scored in the 98th was it after we led all game

We never fucking beat these, even when it feels more “even” a match up, which it most certainly doesn’t feel like now.

Not sure how I’d set up, but I’d probably look at what Wednesday and QPR did, and not do that.

Dreading this one.

Mind you, Boro were winning+scoring for fun last season and we went up there and got a win. Who knows.

Watched a couple of highlights from Coventry's last matches; main threat are their transitions/counter-attacks and secondary threat comes from set pieces. Read some general stats the other day showing that 50 percent of all goals scored in top divisions/higher levels comes from transitions and around 20 percent from set pieces. In order words, Coventry have been highly effective by playing a quick/direct style of football and not putting much emphasis on possession. We need to frustrate them by being organised in defence, play a low- or midblock and try to be effective on the transition/counter ourselves.

Some takeaways from our last two home matches;

- Ribeiro looks way off and needs to be dropped. Lost his marker for Swansea's first goal and was caught on the wrong side of Manhoef for Stoke's goal. He also slows down tempo in final third by taking too many touches and his deliveries into the box are often poor.

- Miller has improved greatly playing as a centre back.

- Morishita looks isolated/lost playing on the right hand side as he's not being involved enough in the attacks. Would benefit playing in a more central position.

- Hedges works hard but his crosses are consistently poor. Doesn't have enough pace or dribbling skill to beat his man on the wing, making him limited in attack.

- Bit of a redemption for Kargbo getting a goal after his mistake/lack of effort for not tracking back in the lead-up to Swansea's winner. The mistake might serve as a bit of a wake-up call as he looked more energetic against Stoke.

- Gudjohnsen wasted two goalscoring opportunities (one in each game) because of a poor first touch. Needs to understand that the game is quicker in the Championship and that he has to be more alert in certain situations. Has struggled to be involved or winning challenges/aerial duels at times.

- We seriously need to work on our set pieces. Many of our corners doesn't even get past the first man standing at near post. Only thing that works well are Miller's throw-ins.

I would be tempted to play a back three against Coventry if Carter recovers from injury in time (to act as cover on the bench). Firstly, it would help the team defend against set pieces a bit better. Secondly, it would free up Alebiosu somewhat from his defensive duties and allow him to attack the right hand side more frequently. Thirdly, Morishita would be able to play in a more central position together with Cantwell.

                         Toth

     Miller   McLoughlin  Wharton

Alebiosu     Tronstad   TGH      De Neve

                Morishita    Cantwell

                        Ohashi

Coventry often play in a 4-2-3-1 so if we were to switch to a back three, one of the center backs would have to 'step out' of the defensive line to stop either one of the wingers or the central attacking midfielder when defending.
