AFC Bournemouth v ROVERS

Not too fussed about the result and good to see a changed team get two goals away to a PL side.

There is a definite problem with this side seeing a game out. Another late goal albeit to a PL side is worrying me. Surely TM is working on this.

A big aggressive in the air CB would be welcome in Jan

Rich Sharpe is poor isn’t he, been saying all week that Lenihan won’t travel because he’s a booking away from a suspension, then only realises that booking don’t count in this competition after he’s told everyone Lenihan will be out for Saturday. What does he do all week? One job.

You'd think he'd look it up if he knew it might be an issue. Very poor.

At least Burnley had a humiliating night, and United did as expected and got knocked out by a better team.

There are positives to take from tonight, the big negative is obviously another late goal conceded. We were realistically never going to win the Carabao Cup so time to put our focus back on the league and then look to have a decent run in the FA Cup in a few months time. Considering our lack of depth in defence it might not be a bad thing to have less games to risk injury. You always want to win and have a good cup run but sometimes it just isn't meant to be. We got a tough draw... and at least we didn't get beaten by a mid table League 1 team :)

Maybe that was what Bauer is and why we tried to sign him?

We do struggle with crosses though and set-pieces. Went on all last season too.

Think we will go in for Bauer in Jan but must be careful as I believe he is out for at least 2 months with ligament damage.

Just watched the highlights back and Williams was sent off in the most ridiculous fashion. Deliberate handball having picked the ball up following a stumble. This after a throw in for Rovers about 25 yards from the Bournemouth goal was thrown all the way back into our own half and Williams given the ball as last man. That is absolutely about concentration and game management. Sunday league stuff.

Some immediate reactions from that:

-The first goal is on Palmer, not a winger and shouldn’t play there again if he can’t do that part of the job. Nearly scored again a bit later from the same side.

-Some really sloppy play from Rothwell and Brereton after a great save from Raya

- not sure it was a penalty but poor defending from Lenihan

-nice to see Rodwell have a bit of a run at them

- Cracking goal from Conway

- Lovely penalty from Arma but he had 3 good chances he maybe should have done better with, the first one he could have played in Brereton

- Williams was idiotic and showed why although he’s done well in the last game or two he isn’t a centre half

Could be Rodwell at the back at this rate...

At least he has some height. We seem to go panic stations whenever teams throw it in our box. On the whole, we're a small team, we need some big bastards to come on for last 10 mins to see us through.

Main positives are that we have plenty of spirit which we knew we had and its great to see.

Also we have attacking players that can hurt teams. Brereton is not a winger and I hope isnt played there, him and Armstrong should have been in opposite positions, we didnt need a 6m striker to play wide. Did well to get a penalty following a poor touch but his reaction afterwards between the foul and the award of the penalty was embarassing.

Raya seemed to make some good saves, one in particular was excellent.

Lenihan again giving away a penalty, and Williams with a moment of pure idiocy.

Game management is a massive, massive concern. All these late goals are not a good sign.
