  1. I have done these summaries for a few years so I will do one again, but most of the relevant information has been covered here. Of course, I do accounting related work 250 days a year already and the accounts have to finally be posted on one of the few weekdays where I am not working. As an accountant who prepares financial statements, that is the perspective that I tend to take when looking at accounts and it is always beneficial to also look at the perspectives of people with other backgrounds in finance and accounting. Page number references are to the page in the accounts themselves and not to their page number of the electronic file. Page 14 gives us key information about cash flow for the year. We spent about 700k on transfers and received 1.05m on transfers. We spent about 800k on payoffs, a decrease from the year before and page 6 tells us that new payoffs totaling 400k were agreed on during the year. Page 22 has our purchases for the year at 867,500. Dack was purchased before this period started so this should primarily include the likes of Samuel, Downing, and Bell and it looks like all of our business for this season did not start until July. This season's business, which does not include January since that was after the date of the accounts, resulted in net purchases of 7.6m, which should only cover guaranteed payments. Pages 24 and 25 give us more information about cash we owe or are owed for transfers. We are still owed 1.3m this year and 10k in future years from sales and owe 1.2m this year and 375k in future years. Potential add-ons that we could owe total 2.1m. Obviously, with our purchases in the summer, the scale of transfers will change significantly. Here is a chart of purchases per year: Here is cash related to transfers and payoffs: As expected, turnover decreased due to the difference in media deals in League One as shown on page 20. That should recover this season while Matchday and Commericial income held well and should increase as well this season, but the graph shows just how far we have fallen over time. The wage bill has fallen again, although it figures to increase this season and staffing levels continue to drop as well. After a few seasons with not much in way of transfers, we are back to adding in a lot of expense other than wages. Income should increase to a higher level than our relegation season, but still below the parachute payment days. Our wage bill will probably not be as high as it was during the relegation season either, but presumably will get there soon after new contracts and signings. More importantly, after a few years of clearing out some of the costs from past moves, we are committing ourselves to more costs now and in the near future.

  2. Interestingly I think this says a lot about Mowbray general philosophy. When Travis got his chance in the first team the thing that was pleasing to see was the way his first thought was a foward pass or to run with the ball. The result was we played much higher up the pitch. His dip in form coincides with a more play it square approach. Chapman was never trusted because he didn’t understand his defensive duties. Rothwell is just childlike for wanting to run with the ball causing us defensive problems. In the case of rothwell and chapman why sign them if you want defensive players who don’t run with the ball. Why sign one thing but expect another. Did he not watch them they are attack minded players. I suspect Rothwell has no intention of changing his style unlike Travis and that’s what annoys Mowbray. In the long term Mowbray for whatever reason has collected together a good array of attacking talent and is frightened to use them. Which will be his downfall. That coupled with a total inability to buy the appropriate defensive players to give the attackers a platform on which to display their talents. Its a disjointed philosophy defenders who are midfielders and can’t defend. Foward players who are attack minded and can’t defend no matter how much he berates them. All of it built around the Evans smallwood square ball half way line mentality. Next season he will have to change or we are relegated

  3. Since we came out of the Premier League in 2012 the following clubs have been taken over whilst in the Championship: Bolton - by Ken Anderson/Dean Houldsworth Wigan - by the Hong Kong group Forest - by Al Hasawi and then Marinakis Derby - by Mel Morris Sheff Wed - by Chansiri Barnsley - by Chien Lee and co. Leeds - by Cellini and then Radrizzani Sunderland (just after relegation to Lge 1) - by Stewart Donald and co. Birmingham - by Trillion Trophy Aston Villa - by Dr Xia and then by Sawiris and the American Wolves - by Fosun Cardiff - by Vincent Tan Reading - first by the Thai group and then by the Chinese Watford - shortly before we came down by the Pozzo family With the exceptions of Anderson (no money) and Donald (backed by foreign money) all those were foreign owners with no past connection to those clubs, but chose to buy in the Championship for a 'project' presumably to get to the Premier League and are prepared to invest or sustain heavy losses in the meantime to get there. The only one of those that has been a disaster has been Bolton - as they can't pay their bills and are dragged through the humiliation of court battles and not paying their wages. The rest of those clubs have remained solvent despite many incurring bigger losses than we do and having similar revenues. In terms of the 'who will buy us?' line the simple answer is we don't know. We don't know how much Venkys would want for the club, there's no indication they have ever been open to a sale of the club. On the rare occasions we've heard about 'interest' the common outcome seems to be Venkys don't even bother to pick up the phone. Given it seems the staff at the club struggle to get answers from India that doesn't surprise me. So until or unless Venkys decide they want to try and sell the club its all ifs and buts. But saying there's nobody in the world who would want to take over an institution like Rovers in the Championship is, in my view, wrong, as the above shows.

  5. Thought we were sensational tonight. The two young wingers - Sancho and Hudson-Odoi - are cracking players to watch. I look at this squad and genuinely think we will win something over the next six years or so. Much better than the so called "golden generation" because there is real depth coming through, and the players we have are a lot more versatile. Southgate is doing a phenomenal job.

  6. Well it is what it is, 9 points is a decent amount. They just happen to have had a solid season under the circumstances and will therefore not land deep in trouble. I just wonder would they have deducted them 9 if it meant landing them in relegation. Either way, they could easily end up in relegation, but they probably wont as Monk has done a great job there under difficult circumstances. EDIT* Just checked the fixtures Birminghams next 3 games are West brom(a) , Leeds(h) and Sheffield united (h). Followed by Ipswich (a), Derby (h) and Rotherham (a) That Rotherham game could be interesting. Particularly as its in Rotherham They could be in trouble alright

  7. Of course 'big' moves by our standards in recent years have usually come about in the same way - by the manager traipsing out to India to meet with Madame and her husband over a few days and receiving approval for additional expenditure. The sort of things that require cash in the bank and an injection of extra funds from above. The wages and running costs seem to get heaped onto the debt mountain as losses every year and on it seems to go with no end in sight. Of course we've seen it before how when the manager wants some cash to strengthen the team with 'big' signings. So their investment in the club is usually just to keep the bills being paid and keep the place ticking over - investment to actually improve the club - whether that be on quality players, infrastructure, staffing - appears to be very little and only comes through if the manager they trust goes out there with a request.

  8. In peace, as ever ... Since the end of this accounting period,( 30/6/2018 ), Venkys London Ltd ( Rovers holding Company ), has issued further shares to the value of £16,112, 500. This has been done in 3 Tranches, on 19th July & 16th November last year, and 28th February this year. One must only assume this is to further underwrite the day to day running of the Club .. The previous post really brought it home regarding what might have happened if Mssrs: Williams and Finn had been given the monies the Venkys have spent, with Big Sam ( or some one of similar competence ), especially if you add back in the compensation monies paid out to the various departed managers. BFC's accounts will be published c. 5th April, will probably show a decent surplus, but there'll be no end of folk wanting us to spend more on transfers, wages, rebuilding of stands etc. It's been said on here many times what a good job our Directors have done, I just wish some of our lot would realise it ... Wishing you well, and enjoy the rest of the season ...

  9. That was covered in part of the MCMC 1875 post that you quoted that said "This is of their own making" Every decision since November 2010 is on their heads obviously with a little help from their just like a family members. But still they had the final say, apparently. So keeping the mess they created afloat is the least they can do. Nearly a decade later, quarter of a billion for a 3rd division runner up trophy, and some worldwide publicity for being monumental bellends , Bargain!

  10. Let's not forget that not long ago Cairney was sold from under Bowyers nose out of the blue because allegedly a quick cash injection was needed, that proved the catalyst for another 20 millions worth out of the door including most of the big earners - that can be filed under debt reducing but look where it left us. Then a season or two ago we have to sign near 40 year old free transfers for a defence, hire an utter moron for manager because he was cheap and take out mid season loans of about 5 million from football finance institutions just to keep the club going ala Bolton,( Cheston gets some well earned stick but he might have just played a blinder there) - Look where all that left us = relegation and lge 1 for first time in 40 years ! That can also be filled as cost cutting so when one or two on here are proclaiming Venkys have reduced the wage bill etc just think how it really came about it certainly wasn't some grand plan that they now deserve credit for. They dragged the club to the abyss and are more than capable of doing so again regardless of what losses they are funding or accounting illusions they create. They can have a modicum of credit for holding their nerve after relegation they deserve that much but in reality only the lucky punt (25-1) on TM and him fitting the job well saved us from more pain.

  11. For months and months all the talk was about a 12 point deduction, which if imposed now would send them right into the mire only 2 points outside the bottom 3 with 3 tough games to come. Lose those 3 and they could well be in the bottom 3 and then all sorts of things start to happen - their heads could go and they could get relegated. With 9 points deducted that still leaves a cushion of sorts. Rotherham would need to win 2 to get above them. If they'd have been in the top 6 or just outside as they were a few weeks ago then they'd face all sorts of trouble in docking them points - hence the convenient delay until now when they're out of the promotion shake-up. Birmingham have done quite nicely out of this. They ain't going up, so the only concern for them has to be ensuring they don't go down. Whether they finish 8th on 65 points or 18th on 56 points matters not. The cloud has been lifted and the reset button pushed - all clear to cart on in the summer and try again next season. The only way it could go wrong is if they manage to not get the 5-6 points they might still need to secure survival, which from 8 games is unlikely.

  13. From the games I've seen Buckley has the highest chance of success and I'd say wharton. After that its down to how the individuals develop. It's so hard to call at this stage with injuries , confidence and cases like tomlinson etc. Not seen Garrett or the Lithuanian lad so can't comment and saw Lyons once where he did ok but nothing stand out. So Buckley and wharton for me

  14. They have also lost their last 4 without scoring. Looking at those fixtures they could be in a lot of trouble.

  15. @rog of the rovers - Not sure on what age they have to come to Rovers to be classed as 'home grown' but a team comprising of graduates from the Development squad might not be far away:- Fisher/Raya Nyambe Lenihan/Wharton Magloire/Grayson LB??? (there's apparently a 16yo LB 'wonderkid' called Jake Garrett in the youths) Rankin-Costello Buckley Travis LM???? Lyons Butterworth An exciting crop based on reports and the snippets I've seen. For the regular U23 watchers who are the likeliest to make it at Championship level? It at least shows the value in retaining our Cat 1 status. That should be maintained at all costs, as should the policy of taking young lads from the big Manc and Liverpool clubs when they get released.

  16. Really? Which? Anderson's overseen a disaster at Bolton but he's never had the money to bankroll them and admitted as much. He hasn't claimed to be something he isn't. Cellino was a disaster at Leeds but didn't relegate them and swiftly sold up and cleared off once he'd outstayed his welcome. Al Hasawi unpopular at Forest but again he didn't take them into League One and sold up to someone better once the fans had turned. All the rest seem to be doing ok, or in the case of Wolves and Watford have completely revolutionised their clubs. The old crowds argument is tiresome too. Wigan, Watford, Barnsley, Reading get no more turning up than we do even now, and I've no doubt we'd have more turning up if we made more of an effort.

  17. More youth signings! Has to put out a positive message to any youngster wanting to join the football club. Would love to see a team of entirely ''home grown'' players like Middlesbrough did against Fulham in 2006 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/4957456.stm

  19. I honestly think anyone expecting wholesale changes is going to be disappointed. Williams, Mulgrew, Smallwood, Bennett, Evans, Samuel will all still be around the squad IMO, could possibly see loan moves for Smallwood/Samuel but nobody is paying a fee for any of that lot. I think Dack will be sold, then hopefully Mowbray will bring in players ready to go into the first 11 next season, I'm not to hopeful though I have to admit.

  22. Apparently this figure does not take into account the sales of Hugill (£9.5m) and Cunningham (£3.5m). After paying a bit to Port Vale and Bristol City in sell ons, I suspect it was around £8-9m in overall. Overall your point is right though that it's almost impossible to be self-sustainable at this level.

  24. It took Stanley 38 years to return to league football. Dont get me wrong, I’m with you, and I’d put up with that if it meant being rid of Venkys but it still means it’s curtains rather than any kind of handing over of the baton.

  25. So in summary we owe £125M or so and are worth probably about £25M. Does that sound like a reasonable estimate? We are insolvent to the tune of £100M and are only propped up by VLLs share capital which isn't really worth the paper it is written on as it's main asset is a football club which is worth bobbins. Excuse my lack of understanding of accounting principles but this sounds like a fair summary. What a mess, Venkys would have to stand a loss of more than £200M if they were to sell, I can't see that happening so we're stuck with them for the foreseeable.

  27. If only they had tuned up on day one and told John Williams and Tom Finn that they were going to invest £250 million pounds over the next 7 years (in addition to all the TV income) and charged them with planning that expenditure. I am confident that they wouldn't find themselves in the situation that they are us are currently in. What a waste.
