Hughesy Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Good to see they played last night too - hopefully he will be back in england today or tomorrow, rather than late friday
grizfoot Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Rocky was superb for Paraguay last night. Got a nasty challenge right on the back of his achilles, he carried on okay though I was shocked a penatly wasn't given as the tackle was in the box. I like the Paraguay team they play at high tempo and just keep attacking whatever, they've been the surprise package of the South Amercian qualifiers so far and they currently top the group.

I saw that tackle and couldn't believe it wasn't a pen. Got to admit my heart was in my mouth when i saw him go down holding his ankle.
Guest Kamy100 Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Just seen the match on Sky and Roque looks very sharp, bodes well for the match on Saturday,

John Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Not too surprising, as he was linked 100 times with them in the summer, but Wenger in his pre-match press conference admitted that he wanted to buy Santa Cruz in the summer. Also said that a number of other clubs in the Premiership were after him (named Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs). He said the message from Blackburn was that we simply would not sell him. Wenger also thinks Fowler is a useful signing for us!
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 The Guardian at it again today- In an article about Mark Hughes being given the final say on transfers it mentions City will be back in for Santa Cruz a.s.a.p.
Eddie Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 If Hughes really has his heart set on him it might work out for us if we can get them to pay an insane amount.
John Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Hughes will have more moderate targets and plans to resurrect his interest in Roque Santa Cruz of Blackburn
Blue n White Rover Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Hughes will have more moderate targets and plans to resurrect his interest in Roque Santa Cruz of Blackburn Such as Torres, Adebayor, Fabregas, Messi, Ronaldo, Tevez, Buffon etc Roque has no chance.
Billy Castell Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Demand £50m for him. £20m for RSC, £30m as a cushion in case of relegation.
Exiled_Rover Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I'm surprised he got on against Everton, you'd have thought Ince would have rested him considering all of his international commitments of late.
philipl Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Simply having a player of RSC's reputation on the pitch presumably made Everton a little hesitant about throwing everyone forwards in the last 20 minutes- I am guessing that was part of the rationale but I also heard he made a crucial clearing header from an Everton corner late on as well.

When he came on I said to my husband that it was probably because he is a very good defensive header. He's made a lot of clearing headers in previous games. He didn't work anywhere near as hard as he does usually - it was more a stroll for him, just did enough to keep Everton on their toes as you said.
John Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Santa interview on Setanta 1 now - interesting.................. Saying realistically we cannot compete for champions league football, therefore, could still be time for him to play for a club who is. Says now is not the time for him though and money is not everything, and that Ince is similar to Hughes.... They had a chat afterwards in the studio, saying Ince attempted to change too much too quickly with us (trying to make things like at his previous clubs). Stevey Claridge thinks staying up is a good season for us and that we are defying the odds!
tonyoz Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Text version of Santa's interview: http://www.setantasports.com/en/Sport/News...britain-locale/
brfcshabba Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Stevey Claridge thinks staying up is a good season for us and that we are defying the odds! His opinion doesn't count for much.
American Rover12 Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Tonyoz's link is a lot better than the crap condensed version of the story here.
gumboots Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Just shows what you can do with a bit of editing doesn't it? I too read the shorter version on Teamtalk first and thought"This sounds bad" but reading the longer text it's not an immediate concern.
47er Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 We don't need to look that far for crap and negative, what about the report in our very own Lancashire Telegraph? " Santa Cruz unsure over Rovers future" is the headline. Are they trying to flog him off or something?
Majiball Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 The power of the press, I saw the short version first but looked for the original the context is completely different. Its hard to have faith in what you read these days. Realistically though I have felt that RSC would probably not stay beyond this year especially if we do not make it back into Europe. He has signed a new contract so his market value will not drop badly. As long as he reaches 20+ again for the season we could expect top dollar for him (if Jo is 19M what price a proven prem scorer). As sad as it would be to see him go and providing we get all of the fee I am not adverse to seeing 20M+ come into the club providing it is all made available to Ince.
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Similar to Henning Berg - when he left- Santa has respected the club, by signing a new contract he has protected Rover's investment - and it looks like he will give us another season to appreciate his talent. When he leaves at the end of the season (as I believe he probably will) - I will wish him well. He does deserve a crack at the CL & fighting for the EPL title. Personally I would prefer him in my team to Berbatov - maybe can't produce that special moment that Bertbatov can - but is a far better team player, who will probably score as many goals and give better consistency of performance. Simply the best centre forward at Rovers since Sutton - and an honourably guy as well.
