tony gale's mic Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Their home form is impressive, but as a team they aren't that great. They still have some tough home fixtures remaining and I'm certainly not convinced that we're talking about "fortress" Craven Cottage. It's easy to point to basic records sometimes, but I still would put this in the group of one of our more winnable fixtures. Truth is that home advantage is overrated in most sports and premiership football would be one of them for most grounds. "Home advantage is overrated in most sports" - records over a century of football would seem to suggest otherwise. There is absolutely no grounds on which you can say that a Fulham away game is more winnable than a Spurs home game. Craven Cottage mightn't be a fortress but by the end of the season they'll still have one of the top 6 home records in the league at the very least, even if they lose a few from here on in. I would love a win here but wouldn't despair if we snatched a point. Spurs have a soft centre and a battling performance from us could be too much for them.

Hughesy Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 As I said in relegation watch - a point would be good, a win would be outstanding. Although if that happened im sure some would still find something to moan about. Time will tell. Il go for a 1-1
Presty On Tour Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 The target is a win at the cottage. We have had a longer rest and the the Rovers players will be cheered on by a large following hopefully with the free travel. Fulham are pretty safe in the league, out of the cups and will be hurting from the run around they had today. No game is easy but with trips to the Bridge and Anfield ahead, 3 points in the bag here will keep the wheels on the road to safety moving.
philipl Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 sorry eddie but you are posting rubbish on this thread. It is pointless comparing fixtures. Every game is tough but winnable now and Rovers simply have to set their stall out to get the points. The difference between Fulham and Spurs is that Spurs can really hurt teams by scoring several quick goals but the Fulham defence is an altogether tougher proposition than Spurs are most of the time. The challenges are different but no way can you say one is a more obvious three points than the other.
Ray-Von Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 We do have a reasonable record at Fulham, so I am hopeful of at least a point.
Iceman Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Fulham have had a good season, but if you going to base their record on this season, then you might as well look at our record against them. We have done well against them, and i just feel we will get a positive result on Wednesday.
Majiball Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 This is a hard game, but we maybe meeting them at the right time. Fulhams home record is second to United's only (I think). But the two bad results may help us. They've lost at home to Hull being robbed in the last minute is always a huge blow. And then a stuffing at United, they'll be low. If we can start bright and attack from the off we may be able to take advantage and nick a goal. But we have to win this one, a draw would be OK on paper but after the next lot of fixtures those two points could make the table much better reading. Don't count us out against the gooners though Sam always had a habit of putting one over them!
John Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Spoke to a couple of Fulham fans last night, and they were not too complementary about their team. Suppose they have just lost two games at home on the bounce. Fact is we need the win more and if we are really up for it, we will have a good chance of winning the game.
allrovertheworld Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Funny isn't it if we win on wed we will only be 4 points behind fulham, yet apparently they have had a great season. Remember guys and girls this league is still very close and there is a lot of football to be played. So lets not be too negative.
Commondore Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Fulhams central midfield is quite weak IMO, we can probably afford to play either Tugay or Dunn on ours from kickoff. Knowing BFS we'll probably start with a 4-5-1 tough, with Roberts still "spearheading" our team and Santa Cruz lost on some godforsaken wing.
DasGelb Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I´m coming over from Norway for this an the Arsenal game. Anyone know where the pub for the away supporters are or what its called? I have to warn you all though. I´ve been over a couple of times before and never seen Rovers score. Let´s hope that changes on wednesday.

If that's heaving walk across Putney Bridge and there's a decent pub called The Whistle and Flute on the right hand side.
Mozzer Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 i personally think we will get beat in this game.. fulham are very difficult to beat at home and after getting beating twice in the past couple of games i cant see them getting beat again-i think they will bounce back... no doubt if we do get beat people will be calling for sam allardyce's head-even tho he is doing a good job for us..
Blue n White Rover Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Game seems familiar to the one we played VS Fulham a few seasons back. We won 4-3 that day and a vital game in our hopes for survival. I don't care how we win this game if it means coming through Diouf spitting the ball over the line! It's a must win game. Just as big as the game VS Hull, I'm going for a 1-0 Rovers win.

What a game that was. Flitcroft at right wing. This game is bigger than the Hull one.
Manc Rover Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Was that the one where Amo scored a cracker?? Yeah he scored, and I think Stead and Jon Douglas scored good goals too! We went on a great run after this game and beat Utd at home in the next game (i think)
American Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Stead, Cole, Douglas and Amo (not in that order - Stead's was the winner). VDS had an awful match, at least 2 of those should have been saved.

broadsword Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 What was the one at Fulham where the Bull of the Bosphorous scored for us?
Ozz Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Sukur scored a sublime brace in the 4-0 win at Loftus Road. We seem to be better off playing Fulham away midweek. Since both teams were promoted together we have only beat them at their place in midweek fixtures, which include Monday night games. Apart from this game, it seems.
roversmum Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Yes, of course, the 14 hour round journey would be rather stressful for some
Manc Rover Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 What was the one at Fulham where the Bull of the Bosphorous scored for us? I think that was the season before. We scored 3 in about 10mins or something like that.
Lathund Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 A repeat would be greatfully appreciated!! Fulham 3 - 4 Rovers Click Here Tugay's through ball for Andy Cole's goal is absolutely brilliant, pinpoint accuracy with the outside of his foot.
