Manc Rover Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 There's an article in todays Times newspaper (the game supplement) earmarking Jones as one of the rising starts of the premier league. Nothing we dont know but nice for him to be mentioned alongside Wilshire, Macheda etc.
Backroom Tom Posted August 2, 2010 Backroom Posted August 2, 2010 Dunno about that but he's got a pretty impressive tan now. That's Hoilett, Jones is on the left
Sparky Marky Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 We're getting carried away.....for me, Jones is ok....technically not brilliant at the moment that is certainly one aspect that needs to be worked on...doesn't look that comfortable with the ball at his feet...more of a no-nonesense centre half, maybe in the terry mould as opposed to rio type centre half. I think Sam did right by not sending him to the Euro U19's, Spain and France would have made mincemeat of him and it would have affected him for the new season. I'm worried about the centre of defence...nelsen is clearly past it in the premier league and I don't think we can rely on Jones just yet, in fact it would be detrimental to the lad if we did....

You didnt watch the game against Fc Sidney I reckon.

Of all the areas of the team, central defence is surely the one place we can not worry about! Samba, Nelsen, Jones, Givet...it's an embarrassment of riches in comparison to other areas! Seriously though, I think we have the best selection of centre halves outside the top six. I'd take ours over what Villa and Everton have to choose from.
LeftWinger Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I'm worried about the centre of defence...nelsen is clearly past it in the premier league The same Nelsen that was outstanding in the World Cup? Central defence is the strongest area of our squad by a country mile! What planet are you on?
1864roverite Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 just reward for the lad after the way he performed. Lets hope he keeps his feet on the ground and doesnt get his head turned by the boys he gtoes on tour with.
thenodrog Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 just reward for the lad after the way he performed. Lets hope he keeps his feet on the ground and doesnt get his head turned by the boys he gtoes on tour with. Indeed. I bet it's a right nest of vipers with hordes of gents grubbing around for business.
The Rover of Finland Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Indeed. I bet it's a right nest of vipers with hordes of gents grubbing around for business. Tough choice for Big Sam if we play four man defence. Samba is an easy choice but will Jones start before Nelsen? I think he should. We need them both though.
ewoodpo Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Well done Phil and Frankie http://www.rovers.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10303~2111559,00.html?
philipl Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 Have to say, that looks a frighteningly weak squad for the under-21s.
Mattyblue Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Have to say, that looks a frighteningly weak squad for the under-21s. I think there is some emerging talent there, epecially in midfield. It's not as if the 'stronger' squads of the past few years have served us well is it!
Hughesy Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Have to say, that looks a frighteningly weak squad for the under-21s. Yes but is that because a few are being given a chance at a higher level next week?? No Wilpshire for instance....
AHoyle90 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I think that midfield in the U'21s squad looks pretty decent. Let's at least give them chance to develop and show what they are made of. Its not all about reputation as we have found out. I'm for one not concerned in the slightest about our centre defence, and still think Nelsen will start quite a few games.
Ozz Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Yes but is that because a few are being given a chance at a higher level next week?? No Wilpshire for instance.... How would a village 2 miles up the road from Blackburn get a game for the U-21s?
bluebruce Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 I think Sam did right by not sending him to the Euro U19's, Spain and France would have made mincemeat of him and it would have affected him for the new season. Hahahaha...very funny! Wait, you were kidding, right? I'm sure that Spain and France's Under-19's are much deadlier than Drogba and Anelka.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Making his under 21 debut now. Been very solid so far, not had much to do though. Think he had a shot cleared off the line earlier as well?
den Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Think he had a shot cleared off the line earlier as well? He did. Hit it into the ground and it bounced over the keeper and was cleared off the line.
