Things are looking a hell of a lot better than this time last week at least. 6 points in a week has helped out massively.

Also it's very doubtful we will be in the drop zone by then.

I agree it is very doubtful but we could be. On the positive our December is very winnable

Bale's only fault is that he's one footed, but his all round game is brilliant, to say he's just a speed merchant is a long way wide of the mark. Maicon is a quick full back and look what happened there.

The only positive so far has been Kalinic, he's looked really strong and has shown good feet several times today. When we don't just hoof it he looks like he can definitely play a lone striker role.

Decent cross, decent shot. It's all based on his pace though - he simply kicks it and runs.

Hoilett has been a big positive, he's looked very good. He just needs someone to pass to. Kalinic has been pretty good after a slow start. Pedersen/Emerton etc do their best with limited talent. They're being exposed against the class in Spuds' midfield though.

The back 4 just have runners and balls coming at them from all angles. It's tough for them to look good. Still they should have picked up that Russian bloke. Two free headers is inexcusable.

Play the ball into his feet and he shows he has the technique to lay the ball off or make a turn and shot. Really don't see how anyone can criticise him for that first half display.

Spurs have a better team but we are really making it easy for them today, two bad defensive mistakes contributed to the goals and our midfield is soft Spurs just walk through it.

It's going to take one hell of a team-talk and some genius tactical decisions by Sam to turn this around.

We are playing like we have 10 men, so much room for them! We passed the ball round nicely on Weds so decide to go full cicle and hoof again today! I'd take 2-0 now please.

We passed the ball around decently at the start today, but Spuds soon sussed it out. Pedersen, Emerton and Jones don't have the quality to play short passes against this midfield.

Pesdersen and Emerton have been fine. The problem has been that we have just dropped deeper and deeper. We started the game well and closed Spurs down in their half and then looked to break by passing to feet, but after about 15 minutes we dropped back into our own half, left them play in front of us 35-40 yards from our own goal and then instead of looking to retain possession when we got it we simply kicked it forward and hoped that Kalinic would somehow win the ball against one of the largest back fours in the league.

Sorry to say it, but time and time again we see that you can't win football matches unless you try to hold onto the ball at times. When is Allardyce going to start telling his teams that they need to have more composure for 90 minutes? This isn't about lack of quality, it's about instructions.

Diouf has sorted that problem out, we looked far more composed, but it's probably too late now unfortunately.

I'd look at giving him an extended role in an advanced midfield position with Hoilett now looking dangerous on the wing. Dunn aside, he's the only midfielder capable of playing short possession football in tight areas.

The managers changed his whole tactics and Ethos on football again? :)

That's a very good Spurs side out there Eddie. Rovers have played some good stuff on the floor first half. Not quite good enough yet, though.

He should have been playing that role for a while. He's good with the ball at his feet, but he doesn't have the pace to beat a full back on the outside any more.

Perhaps, as you suggest, with Hoilett's recent emergence he'll be played more centrally from now on. I know Kalinic would appreciate it.

Obviously it's only half time and many games sitting at 0-0 but thus far there are no teams below us winning. About the only positive I can muster.

I must say though those who claim we have just reverted to hoofball I don't really agree. I think we have attempted to mix it up a bit. Hoilett as an outlet does look as though he may really be able to grow into this role and the team over the course of the season. Only problem is we have been completely outclassed by better players thus far and the midfield just hasn't competed when Spurs are in possession.

Fingers crossed for the second half. In your face football, look for an early goal and get them on the rocks. It will take a big slice of luck and some big gritty performances if we are to gain anything out of this game now!

...and if they pick you apart then there's nothing you can do. I didn't expect us to win this, but that doesn't mean that we should be totally useless. Let's not forget that this is a Spurs side that drew midweek and lost last weekend (against two sides that may well finish in the bottom half).

If you want to compete then you have to hold onto the ball a bit. If you give a midfield of that qualify 80% of the ball then they will beat you, and that's what it was with about 30 minutes gone. No question about it.

If you're saying that this Spurs side are SO good that we can't hope to have more than 20-30% of the ball then let's just pack it in and try and re-enter the league at a more suitable level. I've seen Bolton outplay them, watched Villa outplay United in the second half today and numerous other surprising results in recent weeks...the key to all of them has been keeping a decent amount of possession even when you are spending large parts of the game defending. Tackle and hoof will never win it. Never.

Why say things like that when you have absolutely NO IDEA what Allardyce has been saying to his players?

Of course lack of quality has something to do with it, given their midfield is several times better than ours.
