[Archived] Holloway for Rovers? Oi don't know about that

Recommended Posts

He went before he was pushed imo. The next game up was Arsenal and he knew he was losing the players and about to be turned on by the fans. Although in doing so he probably waved away a fair bit in compen so fair play to him for that. Someone like Holloway at Rovers would go one of 2 ways, either he'd get the place going and build a head of steam towards promotion or it would go spectacularly tits up in a short space of time.

Knowing how things go for us this last few years I'll wager it will go spectacularly tits up, even managing to surprise a fan base that has seen some pretty surprising crap.

He seemed to get alot of praise for how he handled his exit at palace, but for me it was a disgrace to leave the club like that after signing 13 players.

He said he left becasue for the 1st time he felt they didnt listen to him at half time v fulham. WTF is that, just drop the the players that didnt listen. Dont just walk out on the club that gave you a job at the 1st sign of trouble

Disgrace? Come on that's a bit strong. Weak maybe.

Palace were relegation favourites after their first game. His players aren't good enough; simple as. It's not that they weren't listening, it's that they could not comply with his instructons on how to beat Premier League teams. They even sold their best player from last season to Man U reserves.

Anyway, Holloway isn't coming to Ewood. No manager with any pedigree will as long as the present structure is in place.

By all accounts Shebby Shelf Assembler wanted hippy trippy silly Holloway last summer, but didn't get his way. Love to have heard the 7 hour flight tape on Air India as Degsy & GB had a in depth conversation as to what Bollywood movie to watch, which curry to have, and what spin to give to Mrs Loon as to why we aren't in the Champions League?

All accounts?

Accounts on here said that Holloway was interviewed and Singh walked out - allegedly!

I think the majority of the fan base will never ''get going'' as long as Venkys are around.Mid table and briefly flirting with playoffs and then lose a couple and its doom and gloom again.

I just see more and more people losing interest and i dread to think what might happen if we were to lose the next 2 against Reading & Leeds. There is a familiar pattern to ''manager goes to India, comes back with job safe , lose a couple and bye bye''.

Bottom line is we are treading water on the pitch but going to hell in a handcart financially, and the only way out is promotion . If that was the reality at the start of the season why was our manager shopping at Primark instead of getting proper talent in? Would be strange to see much activity in Jan window (by which time we could be out of it) with the threat of FFP fines staring us in the face. So another season written off , probably.

All just way too bizarre

No specialist knowledge, can't be doing with people on the internet making knowledge and experience up for themselves, simply what I was told regarding these contracts. I have encountered the type of contract you mention at work where there is in effect an initial term and then, as you say, clear notice clauses which, if not exercised, mean the contract 'renews' for a further fixed period so I've no idea which version is correct.

I did do a quick google though - as I say I cannot claim any legal knowledge on this or any other area of law, and found this:

From http://www.justanswer.com/uk-law/39vwd-one-year-rolling-contract-understood-mean.html

And this

From here: http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/main/s115/st73284.htm - I think this may have been the situation where my original understanding came from

By the way, nice profile pic

Mmmm, fair enough, interesting stuff Longsiders, and news to me.

Seems like a stupid way to have a contract to me, as surely it just means whenever you want rid of an employee you are having to stump up the contract pay-off fee. It almost just feels like agreed compo. No surprise that such a thing is linked to the ridiculous world of football as in the Hoddle example.

Anyway, if a decent manager was available (not getting into the Holloway debate), then I would drop Bowyer in a heartbeat no matter what the cost. Nice guy, and he is doing an average/adequate job, but I have absolutely no time left for loyalty and/or emotion when it comes to football anymore. Mainly, because the professionals that exist in the football world have the exact same feelings about me as a fan, so if you can't beat em, join em.

It's about business decisions everytime, and rovers as a business are up the creek without a paddle, so emotion means nothing to me. It's about survival.

Yes, GB has been at the club for years and years, yes he has nurtured young talent, yes he has the club's best interests at heart, great guy blah, blah, blah.

But if the right man comes along wanting the job then it would be here's your pay-off cheque Gary, out the back door you pop, it's been fun, good luck for the future lad.

Particularly, the last 3 years or so have made me this way. Perhaps that's a bad thing because I have let them drag me down to their level, but that is how I feel now. I have one priority, and that is the club's future, anything else is just noise to me. That's why I didn't shed a tear about MGP. Good servant to the club, and I would always applaud/cheer him if seen on the pitch again, but he was no longer what we needed so was glad when he left.

From the LET today, I found it quite funny that Shaw dismisses speculation about us changing manager as "ridiculous". Imagine us changing manager, it would never happen would it? Ridiculous to even think it. We would only change our manager on a day with a Y in it. What a buffoon that man is.

The best line from the interview was the one about 'hearing the nonsense about the manager's future every time he goes to India'.

It's nonsense that he has to go there at all and nonsense that Shaw is still in post.
