Good riddance to Steele.  IMV, a liability who cost us many points, and therefore our Championship status, with his mistakes.

100% agree. I witnessed ridiculously soft goals conceded at Ipswich and Norwich through amateurish errors that cost at least 4 points and there were plenty more before he was relieved of this duties. Sunderland evening paper headline reckons his signing has "solved their problem between the posts". Really?.

Craig Noone is a good suggestion, wouldn't be surprised if he is on our shopping list. Would do very well in league 1.

Steele going for 500k is a real coup. You do have to fear for Sunderland next season, made some really poor signings.

They've only bought McGeady and Vaughan. I'd say both are fairly good signings. They are also linked with Grabban who has proven himself at that level before.

I'd say Steele is their first bad signing.

Neil Warnock has officially put Craig Noone on the transfer list. 12 months left on his Cardiff deal. Can play right or left wing.

Could well be the first time people are happy at Venky's sanctioning the signing of noone.

I know everyone will try and make the best of the Steele situation but we are now a week from the start of the season and have 2 young keepers with a total of 12 first team games between them. Hope we get some experience in on loan or this is a huge gamble.

Having only 2 youngsters is less than ideal, although one is highly promising. However having Steele is even worse as he is an appalling keeper.

Good luck to him, he'd only be on the bench here so he may as well be paid by someone else to sit on a bench in a higher league

I bet Steele can't believe his luck ..... back in his native north east and from the dregs of League 1 to likely near the top of the Championship, with crowds of 30,000 plus.

One of those odd ones where our sub goalkeeper gets a better move and we get cash for someone with a year left on contract and wouldn't get in the team.

An odd life is one of a sub goalkeeper, if they play it right they can have a solid career sitting on a bench!

Richard Wright got years out of it at some decent teams

Won't lose any sleep whatsoever over this one but at the same time good luck to the lad - he's meant to be a sound guy by all accounts. Be interesting to see if we bring a replacement in or promote Fisher.

End of the outgoings now please, Rovers.

Outgoings are not in our hands even assuming Venkys are not pushing for outgoings as the power is now with players and their agents.  Raya, I believe is a good young keeper who needs games.  Fisher is also a good keeper according to the guys who watch our youngsters.  We do need a third keeper however for cover.  Not the worst position to be caught short as goalkeepers, as I understand can be bought or loaned outside the window as it's a specialised position. Therefore no panic.

I agree with you, good luck to the lad and while we are at it, good luck to Lowe as I don't want anyone kicked onto the scrap heap.

Looking on the Sunderland MB they are less than convinced by signing Steele, looks like a few have been reading this thread as well.

A few are saying that we will say he's useless now he's leaving............... If any of you Sunderland fans are reading this, trust me, this is not one of those occaions, we really are glad he's gone!

Really?  If we replace him then fine. If not we're weakened. You just can't go into a season without an established keeper. Sure someone will come in.

Found it quite funny that a few on here thought all the uninspiring comments regarding Steele's ability on this thread might actually prevent the transfer because Grayson's son plays for our youth team and Grayson used to live near brockhall or something. I've never known the opinion of fans on a message board actually effect a football transfer. If I was a football manager and I liked a player, the opinion of a few of the selling teams fans wouldn't bother me personally. Especially not the opinion of any of us idiots on here ;)
