Indeed. They are just very lucky to be situated where they are. As a reminder there’s as many league clubs between a handful of junctions of the M65 as there is in the whole north east of England.

You’ll likely get your Jelly and Ice Cream all the same but Esteve signed a new contract, hopefully Beyer and Ekdal are back fit and we’ve added Hartmann, Tuanzabe & of course Kyle Walker so you might argue outfield player wise it’s stronger rather than being dismantled. Obviously need a new number 1 now and will no doubt struggle - but we would have regardless.

Still no sign of a striker either

Not even rivalry bias, just the way I see it. 

He was starting to look fairly woeful in top level teams. Where his attacking strength should still shine.

He's always been suspect defensively. So, in a team that is more likely to be on the back foot than attacking the final 3rd, can't fathom this one at all.

Mix in his waning pace, the distraction of his off field antics, and it looks a recipe for disaster imo. 

Feel free to come back at me in 6 months if he becomes a Michel Salgado. I'm quietly confident.

Not sure I agree but you might be spot on - that said  his experience could be invaluable. Inevitably we are taking calculated risks. We can’t compete for proven talent in its prime so has to be older, like walker, potentially injury prone (Hartmann and Tuanzabe) or unproven kids with perceived potential (Koleosho when we signed him). 
 

I doubt I’ll have anything to gloat about in 6 months or all season though - even if Walker proves you wrong on every point

Can’t or won’t? There are 92 league clubs in England and, & this really does stick in the throat, you guys are easily one of the bigger clubs. You just need some half sensible owners.

Just seen the Dingles are signing Armando Broja from Chelsea for £25m. I was really impressed by him when he was at Saints in 21/22, since then he’s struggled badly with injuries. Could be a really shrewd move, or could be a disaster.

Either which way, I feel like at some point between 2011 - 2015 I slipped in to some parallel universe and I haven’t ever managed to get back. They’re shelling £25m on a bit of a gamble, we’re meant to be impressed by spending anything close to 7-figure sums on any of our incomings.

I think that the Dingles will have a fighting chance this year.

Parker seems to be a more pragmatically minded manager that Kompany was, certainly defensively, so they perhaps won't get rolled over quite the same this time around.

Im not so sure they do. The state that the system in this country is in, it is so difficult to stay up if you go up such is the gap between the divisions. 

The flip side of this is that Southampton disgraced themselves in the Premier League, yet are very strongly placed to come back up even assuming they lose their best players.

Regarding the promoted teams, Burnley have lost Trafford, Egan Riley and Brownhill. Their signings seem to be a bit underwhelming from their perspective.

Sunderland were weaker to begin with but have really gone for it in the market, Xhaka is the eye catching one. Leeds had the strongest squad of the 3 and have only strengthened it.

Think this time round they have a better chance (unfortunately!). As well as Leeds and Sunderland I suspect Bournemouth and Brentford could struggle. Palace possibly as well if they lose Eze or Mateta - although with how Parrish plays hardball they would undoubtedly have decent funds to reinvest. Not sure West Ham are in a great place either.

Bugger! I seem to have talked myself into giving the Dingles a fair chance of staying up 🙁
