Interesting comments about loan players. There is upside to loaning players in but also a downside. Ismael's comments seem to suggest he thinks the negatives outweigh the positives. I think a couple of quality loans can push higher in the league and worth it if you got quality loans in. If you bring in average players on loan, might aswell use the academy players surely?

I think we need another centre back, even after McLoughlin signs.

Carter is constantly injured and Wharton will take a while to get anywhere near up to the required level.

Maybe a loan, unless there is an academy player ready to step up?

Otherwise we are solely reliant on McLoughlin and Hyam for the majority of the season.

Said Scott Wharton is unfit and needs to improve on this to play the way Ismael wants to play. So can see us really pushing for CB, ala Mcloughlin, as he clearly doesnt see Wharton as the answer to replace Batth.

Think thats a mistake personally. Logic would dictate that lads at Liverpool academy are better than ours. 

I know most of this is common knowledge but interesting to hear direct from the horses mouth. 

Loaning players only make sense if you're pushing for promotion or staving off relegation.

Why develop a player from Liverpool if the plan is to just sit comfortably in mid table?

As for the Academy, I'm suggesting that while we think its there to provide players for the first team squad, increasingly its looking like its there to earn money to keep the club going. And, of course, while they're here these young players are cheap.

As for "we have a lot to be proud of" tell that to the women's team. In truth we have a lot to be ashamed of and so much to be angry about. The club is dying season by season.

No better decisions, it's a tale of wasted opportunities which suck the life-blood out of us and will lead to relegation and administration. That's my firm belief. You'll call it negativity, I'll call it realism.

And as for Racing Santander and the rest, what about Wrexham or even Bolton and Burnley? No good telling me things could be worse. Venkys have had 15 years and things get worse every season.

Clarkson didn't do much with us, but I wouldn't be against bringing him back. Done pretty decent at Aberdeen, still young and he's a fan of the club.

I think we are going in a healthy direction, and having been involved in a board for a football club I know how extremely difficult running a football club is. There is small margins for error which can lead to a negative spiral. This is spending too much, too high wages and investing wrongly. 
 

With Rovers as with my kids when they say the other kids can do that or get that, I don’t give two pennies. I care about me, myself and my family and try to make the most out of it.  I don’t care what other clubs spend, because in my book big money spendings are not necessarily the ones that shine the most. 
 

looking forward to seeing our biggest signing this summer Tavares who comes with English language, Arsenal academy, International experience and network and ticks most boxes.

Jordan Rhodes - £8 million sold for c£11 million - Consistent reliable top goal scorer.

Adam Armstrong - £1.75 rising to £3 million - Sharp young prospect scored goals and developed here - sold for double figures.

Brereton - £6/7 million - Prospect took a long time to develop but showed his potential and SHOULD have fetched double figures.

Szmodics - £2 million - Good lower league prospect found his feet here and kept us up almost on his own - Sold for 4 or 5 times the fee.

Danny Graham - Free transfer, big wages - Reliable strong centre forward played a big part in promotion and res-establishing club.

There are more but the point is you DO have to invest good money regularly if you want to resell for big bucks and reap the benefits in between.

I have been furious with us playing loanees such as ACD and  Tyler Morton instead of our own. I personally love the route we are taking with our own more playing time. 
 

in some cases it has worked out well with JVP and Harvey Elliot, but the club has no gain on it afterwards.

McLoughlin is an experienced Championship centre half for a position where we need experience.

I can't remember seeing him him play too much but that might be a good thing. If he is as efficient and understated as Batth he will do for me.

He'll be 30 by the time that 2 years is done. The club only offer 1 year contracts to players over 30 (hence the 1 year option), I'm sure I read that somewhere.

30 is nothing in the modern game,physio  and modern methods of recovery are a lot bettern than in the past,when the recovery process was a pint or 5 in the players lounge,im`e surprised he signed at all tbh,the lad must have been desperate to get away from hull

I agree, but Venky's are always behind the curve when it comes to Football. Probably still seething from Best, Murphy and Etuhu.

It was probably originally a 3 or 4 years (with an option) and a higher wage, and then once he had arrived here & done his medical, they changed the offer and did a deal, lower wage, but shorter contract, same as what happened with Kargbo

I suspect he will be a level above Dion Sanderson, but not sure he’s first choice if top 6 is your aim.

No disrespect to him but its a downgrade on Batth for me.

One plus is he managed 36 games last season and looks to have a pretty clean injury history, which we definitely need....
