That is one weak second team. First team isnt too strong either.

Obviously you cant take anything much from pre season, especially from the first game. But I wonder if anything can be read into the selection, especially the non selection of the very few senior players on the bench. Will De Neve be ahead of Kargbo initially? No surprise to see Gueye and Buckley not starting. Also seems like Ribeiro is ahead of Pickering.

Be interested to know what people thought of De Neve. Is he quick?

Looks like the trialist is a central midfielder, unless someone is playing where they normally dont

                                             Goddard

Houghton              Atcheson           Wharton                     Pickering

                              Buckley                 TRIALIST

Mullarkey-Matthews              Strich                        Kargbo

                                           Gueye

Our squad depth is appalling and one of the main reasons we will never get promoted under this ownership.

Bound to just be one for the youth team surely

If it was they would just name him.

He's called "trialist" because he is a free agent, and incase he's any good and it alerts other sides.

Can you name many more out of the thousands that have played the game? Players like Rooney are the exception

If you are good enough then you are old enough:

  • Pele - international at 16 and playing and starring in World Cup winning team at 17
  • Mbappe - international at 18 and playing and starring in World Cup winning team at 19
  • Yamal - international at 16 and playing and starring in Euros winning team at 17
  • George Best - United 1st team at 17
  • Trevor Francis - Brum 1st team at 16 and banged 4 goals in 1 league game at 16
  • Damien Duff and Phil Jones - PL debuts at 18

If Tyjon is going to be the player we hope and think he is, he should be playing 1st team football for Rovers this season.

It is worth noting that the U21s are also playing today, so it is possible that some of the other younger players are with them

Litherland, Garrett, Batty, Powell, Leonard, Wood, Dunn, Edmondson, O'Grady-Macken from the players who have been training with the first team/on the bench over the past year or so

* I am definitely not stating that we have wonderful strength in depth, just mentioning a few of the younger names who are missing

So you've just named some of the greatest players of all time.

And based on them being ready so young, if Tyjon is not yet ready, then what? Absolute nonsense.

Even if he develops into a good Championship or even Premier League player, he has done well.

You could name many other top historical players who also werent ready at this age.

He should play some games yes, but Jansen wasn’t playing for Carlisle in the bottom tier of the football league until he was turning 18.

Ollie Watkins hardly made a senior appearance in league two until he was almost 20.
There’s tons of quality players who just aren’t quite ready at 17.

it`s not the norwegion fellow from ajax is it

Definitely not.

It won't be someone who would command a multi million pound fee.

It will be a free agent who hasn't sorted a club out yet.
