We've all seen it before with sides.

'Unlucky' is a term often used to describe defeats at the outset of a relegation season.

These defeats soon become 'deserved' and 'self inflicted', as confidence drops and a lack of quality shows.

As it stands, with the squad we have, we're in the mire.

They've recruited guys used to losing each week. They would have been better looking at players from the promoted sides in the respective countries.

August 2011, after Everton beat us 1-0, I had that feeling of relegation. Even so early in the season:

It was crazy that we didn't get even a point from that match. Dominated it from start to finish, hit the woodwork 3 times, including 2 missed penalties.

Then an outrageous penalty decision against Chris Samba gifted them all 3pts in the 92nd minute.

We deserved so much more from the performance and it felt like a mugging.

Resulted in being our 3rd league loss on the bounce to start the season, and the rest is history.

I have the exact same feeling after the Birmingham game, and the similarities are terrifying.

My big worry is that we say the defence is fine and solid but so far we are averaging conceeding 2 a game. If that's the strongest part of our team...

Reminiscent of the late seventies side under John Pickering. Regularly found a way of losing a game to send the fans home disappointed.

Potential fellow - relegation rivals have strengthened their squads significantly in the final days of the transfer window. Particularly Charlton and Hull.

When the fixture list came out, my reaction was the sequences were such that they could relegate us if we messed up.

After this window I am now alarmed.

Quietly all through yesterday the clubs that could be fellow travellers in distress were strengthening while we were selling the centre back who had spent every minute of the last 50 games on the park.

If anyone needed confirmation then the Hyam sale provided it - results, points, league position are not the priority here and haven't been throughout any of this summer.

Those that were concerned with results - JDT and Eustace - moved on because wanting to be successful and get results was incompatible with the agenda being pursued by the owners and their stooges.

Their desire to get Hyam out, his wages gone and their hands on a couple of million of cash overrides everything else, even Championship status. Remember that in May when they start pretending that relegation was unexpected.

Said it all summer but we are in big trouble this year. Already lost 4 out of 5 and replaced all our experienced pros with foreign gambles. I think the manager is a dud, the executives rotten to the core and morale of staff/players already at the floor.

Package all that against a very competitive league this year where even bottom feeders and promoted clubs have spent considerable funds improving their squad with experienced pros.

The only real disaster club is Sheff Wed which leaves 2 more spaces up for grabs of which I am fairly certain we will be one.

Might be in a minority here but I think Hyam is better than Carter (when both are fully fit)

Not sure if injuries just ruined Carter but he's never seemed to live up to his early promise.

I always thought Hyam and Batth were better. Carter is far too prone to injuries.

Not just because he's always injured, I mean if both were fully fit, I'd start Hyam over Carter.

Also a possibility that the Carter/Hyam partnership just never really worked but just feel Hyam was the better player.
