Piss take but could only happen at Rovers in this era at Championship level.

Apparently around the similar point in their game the ball was sticking to the pitch at Chorley were it has belted down non stop all day but the ref carried on with only a fraction of the game left.

Pathetic on all counts really.

Ref has done Ipswich proud there.

No interviews with managers as the decision on a replay is by a panel and they can’t be seen to try and influence it

The main issue is, and always has been the fact that the pitch drains into the river. If the river is overflowing there's nowhere for the water to go. I'm not sure what the answer is but I'm pretty sure it's not the pitch itself that's the problem

We put astronauts on the moon in 1969.

It shouldn't be beyond the wit of man to come up with a solution, they just dont want to spend any money on it.

Or on anything else for that matter.

In English league football (including the EFL Championship where Blackburn and Ipswich are now), the rules are pretty clear when a match is abandoned:

  • The result at the time of abandonment does not stand – unless the league specifically rules otherwise (very rare, usually only if the game is abandoned extremely late, e.g. after 90 mins + injury time).
  • The game is usually replayed in full, starting 0–0, with both sides having 11 players available again.
  • Any goals, cards, and the match situation at the time of abandonment are wiped from the official record.

So in your example:

  • Blackburn’s 1–0 lead wouldn’t count.
  • Ipswich would not have to finish with 10 men.
  • The game would be rescheduled and played again in its entirety.

👉 The only exception would be if the EFL or FA chose to let the score stand (e.g. if it was abandoned extremely late and the outcome was effectively decided), but 80 minutes is still short of that threshold — so almost certainly, it would be a full replay.

On way home but why were Ipswich allowed to celebrate in front of own fans with no announcement. Bloody disgusting.

Would be nice for the EFL to look at that and say due to their conduct, result stands and no replay. They won't, but still.

I wouldn't be thrilled as an Ipswich fan if the team were celebrating a match abandonment. Total loser's mentality.

It will be replayed 100%. The wording is as it is so that if fans invade the pitch to get games abandoned when behind, the result still stands. With the weather it will just be replayed.

McKenna, was in ear of ref when he came over to sort his communication out and then told his players to play it on floor where it was at its worse to get it abandoned

Hasn't this been a known issue for some time and something that our current owners have been aware of?

Haven't they also been told a way it can be addressed?

Maybe the cheque they signed for it went sailing down the River Darwen.

Isn't it a local authority issue, rather than a Rovers issue?

The River Darwen needs investment to handle the drainage of the local area (lots of new houses since 1994 - lots of water that goes straight from the sky to the river over tarmac and in drains] rather than into the water table).

It's so fucking frustrating because it has detracted from what was a really good performance again, coming on the back of the win at Hull. I wasn't optimistic going to the game today, but thought we were excellent throughout.

You might have a point but surely it's incumbent on Rovers to sort their own solution out?

Cards & resultant suspensions aren’t wiped.

Yep, a well deserved win has been snatched from us. Made Ipswich look very ordinary.

We are now at the stage of robbing ourselves of 3 points.

The club could have resolved the drainage issue but it costs money and we are all about saving the owners cash.

It's actually embarrassing as a championship club we get games called off for a waterlogged pitch.

We were the only game in the football league to have the game called off.

An unbelievably unfair distraction but what we did learn again today is that we are a lot better than we thought we’d be given the upheaval of the summer. Well done big Val!

Instead of celebrating they should have been sitting in the dressing room being told they've had a massive let off and need to improve immediately. They've spent more on a single player than our entire squad cost.

Spot on.

It would sum up the Venky's period of ownership if we lost the replay and skimping on the pitch infrastructure sent us down by less than 3 points this season.
