Same referee. Spot the difference.

You may not see this if Im already on ignore but for me he definitely got  the first one wrong.  The attacking player is heading into the corner anyway and arguably it's not even a foul he appears to trip over his own feet.

Not sure on how getting the first one wrong has any bearing on whether last night's decision was right or not.

He is going to get to the ball first and the likelihood of him controlling the ball was high.

  • Likelihood of keeping or gaining control: Whether the attacker would have been able to control the ball.

So no red card if the player was Makhtar Gueye and not Morishita ?

I don't know if you should have out an emoji after that but it's about the denial of the opportunity, not the players ability.

I'd imagine you have to apply that guideline on the assumption all players are of equal ability. You can't award a red if it's Messi going through and a yellow if it's Gueye.

Opinions will presumably vary greatly on what constitutes an "obvious goalscoring opportunity" though. If you pull the incident last night back to the half way line would it still be one? Id say not but people might disagree.

I was passing an opinion on Miller not attempting to be unpleasant towards you. He must have been responsible for at least half a dozen goals so far this season.

Don't think I've ever said Tronstad is "hopeless" pretty ordinary is more apt but either way my views on him are completely irrelevant to my views on Miller.

Apologies if you've taken umbrage at anything I've posted, it's a message board at the end of the day and I've merely posted my opinion, Im not attempting to upset anyone. I can't recall you taking particular exception to anything anyone else posted so if you don't like the stuff I post for whatever reason Id imagine the option is there to put me on ignore.

I don’t have anyone on ignore, everyone entitled to an opinion. You have a well versed opinion on Tronstad and now Miller, your perogative. My issue was with you arguing with Arbitro, a first class referee for many years and probably, the most respected person on the Board as to whether the official got it wrong on the red card call. From my vantage point in the JWL, I was 100% certain it was a red card but I haven’t seen it on the TV. If Arbitro had posted today that it wasn’t and their was a good case for the referee making his decision, I would be happy to accept it basis his fairness, professional credentials and long first hand experience.

Thanks for the more measured reply. I've never put anyone on ignore either.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion on whether it was a red or not, the interpretation of the guidelines is fairly subjective. A lot have said it was a definite red, a few have said it definitely wasn't I'd fall somewhere in between "seen them given but wouldnt be surprised if it was a yellow either" camp.

I wasn't initially taking issue with Arbitro saying it was a definite red, that's his prerogative. I was taking issue with his support for Ismael producing "the list" and complaining of some sort of vendetta against us by referees which in my book is excuse making, nothing more nothing less.

I wonder if the ref was reprimanded for his first decision, thus leading to his second ?
