With the current clown squad in charge, you can only expect a joke of an appointment. What manager with any self-respect would accept being below Rudy Gestede in the pecking order? Yep and to be honest the three previous to this one were all decent for a spell even though they all ended messy. This one was straight out of the Coyle, Crappleton playbook and doomed to fail from the off on cv alone. I suppose we were due a bad one though so whoever has the ear this time hopefully is someone who goes over the head of Gestede and co. 2 Quote

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Mark Hughes was great here both as a player and a manager but time waits for no man. He’s managing in non league football for a reason. 4 1 Quote
Rogerb Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago The fact that there is no sign of a replacement suggests the falling out rumour may well have legs. They didn't expect to be looking for a new coach. 1 Quote
Theaxe15 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Hearing on radio Lancashire Nixon suggesting Souness till the end of the season and then a rovers fan agreeing but saying it would be a “pipe dream”. What on earth goes through peoples heads???? 2 Quote
Mercer Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago 14 minutes ago, RevidgeBlue said: Is that another Merce hot tip or pure guesswork? I know nothing whatsoever about him but tuned into a bit of a Stockport lunchtime game recently and he was showing a lot of passion on the touchline. (They beat Huddersfield 1-0 with a goal deep into injury time) Would feel very underwhelming though. Name I heard tonight - heard sufficient to stick a few quid on him. Agree, underwhelming but taken Stockport from National League to top 6 Division 1 in under 5 years (not dissimilar to Parkinson with Wrexham but without the big backing). Under contract but wouldn't break the bank in compensation. If the worse comes to the worse this season, we'd have a lower league 'specialist' at the helm. Understand he's under very serious consideration. Quote
Ricky Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago I’m not convinced he’d even leave Stockport for us at the moment. That’s how far we’ve fallen! They are only about 8 places behind us. 2 Quote

Do you think Alex Neil would stay at Millwall if offered West Ham? Quote

Armchair supporter supremo Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) Im at the point where i couldn't care less... if we sign someone that does well(initially) they'll be gone when they realise what an amature hour circus it is and that come the transfer window he won't get any players that he actually wants, no serious money will be spent and his best players will be sold without him having any say in the matter. And if we get someone that does shit from the off it will just be more time wasted and negativity around the place until they're eventually potted Likely we'll get someone bang average... just good enough to earn a bit of respect, but not good enough to safe us from relegation Edited 16 hours ago by Armchair supporter supremo Quote

Neal Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) My dream appointment would be Gerrard. I've wanted him for a long time as I can see the potential pay off if it was to go to plan and be perhaps our potential version of Vincent Kompany. A way back in for him just down the road from where he wants to be. Lots of ties between the clubs. Would put arses on seats. Would be great for loans. Was amazing at Rangers and is a fiercely competitive winner with a point to prove. His stint in the middle east was clearly for the cash but it would be a great opportunity for him to drag us into something respectable and give himself a shot towards the Liverpool job again. He is a leader for a club without leadership. Can't see it happening, he'd probably avoid us like the plague and they wouldn't have the balls to take him on but... If there was a chance... They should be absolutely BEGGING. Edited 16 hours ago by Neal 5 Quote
Commondore Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Disregarding everything that goes on off the pitch in the sad shell of a club we’ve in many ways become; Johnson until the end of the season, then regardless of what division we’re in someone hungry and on an upward trajectory. I’d much rather have an appointment like Mousinho at Portsmouth, (pointing) Keith Andrews at Brentford or for that matter Eustace at Rovers than another Ismaël or Mowbray type. Quote
StHelensRover Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I'd quite like the guy who is currently managing Motherwell, but we probably couldn't afford him, and he would probably see it as a step down at this point, sadly. He couldn't be any worse than the usual journeymen or someone from the lower leagues. Motherwell are having a good season. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jens_Berthel_Askou 1 Quote

Understand he's under very serious consideration. Honestly wouldn't put it past them to look at Parkinsons job with Wrexham and think Challinor could make the step up to the championship in a similar fashion. He got Stockport to League One, finished 3rd last season (losing to Orient in the play offs), now got them 4th. The bulk of his career has been in non-league, which makes this a huge, huge risk but as an outside choice, you never know. Not an appointment I'd go for, it just carries far too much risk. Quote

Gamst Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Wonder whether they are considering/are even aware of Jimmy Thelin who is out of work. Did amazing initially with Aberdeen including winning silverware and then it all seemed to fall apart. Quote
roversfan99 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Tomasson would never come back here. I feel like as a manager, he isnt suited to a dogfight anyway, although in terms of the likely "alternatives" he is a much better proposition. He seemed to struggle at times last time with big personalities, at least that isnt a problem anymore. Hughes is only mentioned because he used to manage us 20 years ago. Would be a shocking appointment, last 2 jobs at Bradford and Carlisle where he is currently not excelling in non league. Gerrard isnt a good manager, that would be just based on name. People like Rowett, Wagner, Cifuentes and Bilic fall into the category of underwhelming but all probably have some merit to them. People like Chris Coleman, Karanka and Lee Bowyer fall into desperate options we can fear but would really sum the club up. Stay away. Hopefully there are more credible alternatives not initially mentioned. Whether we could get them is another question. And forget giving it to Johnson. The focus should be on getting the best manager as soon as possible, if he wins 1 or 2 in the meantime (tomorrow should be a certainty, Sheffield Wednesday are not competitive) then fantastic. This idea of appeasing the fan base too. The fan base is already fractured and toxic regardless of the manager. But we all give a manager a chance and ultimately you win (most) people over with good results, not big names, who you played for or whether youve been here before. Quote

I just find it impossible to believe Gestede sacked him he'd never have that authority no matter how much sway he might think he has. I could however see Ismael storming off he has form for it but if the axe has truly come it's because Balaji has got out of the right side of bed after having an early night for once. 1 Quote
