DutchRover Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Dunno about truth of it but TransferMarkt says he plays a 3-4-2-1 formation, so could signal a continuation of three at back, just after we didn't sign a left wing-back and brought in a couple of inside-forwards. Hopefully he'd be pragmatic rather than dogmatic, as I think we need to play 4-2-3-1 given squad we have now. Edited 1 hour ago by DutchRover Quote
Mercer Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Totally underwhelmed with Alexander. A managerial journeyman My God, how far has our club fallen. Bereft of hope, ambition and inspiration. Alexander's teams not renowned for decent football. If he's appointed that's me finished with Rovers. It will end in tears, yet again. 1 Quote

Of all the absolute nonsense over the last 15 years appointing Graham Alexander is an odd one for you to 'finish with Rovers' over Shame, I will miss your posts if it does happen, especially the tremendous help with laying off bets 4 Quote
TheRoversGRL Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Unfortunately for me. I have no confidence that Zippy and Bungle can actually make the right decision. Who in the right mind would want to come to us? We’re so disconnected, leadership team and Rudy who treats us like he’s playing football manager. 1 Quote

G Rover Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Took me a day or two to join up so a bit late to the party. Sounds like Graham Alexander being considered. But Id go all out to get Dave Challinor from Stockport County. He's got an absolute fantastic record all the way from non league and the northern premier league with Colwyn Bay through to AFC Fylde, Hartlepool and now Stockport. Promotion after promotion. Hes won promotion with all those clubs and in total has had 7 promotions in 14 full seasons. He's never finished a full season as Manager outside a play off place in the 14 seasons. Hes got a win percentage of 53% over 819 matches in charge. Some record. Got Stockport to 3rd in League One last season behind Birmingham and Wrexham (5points off the big spenders). This season his Stockport are currently joint 3rd in League One with Bolton 6 points adrift of the automatic 2nd spot. Challenging yet again.. Hes a class act a proper football man. He sets very high standards of professionalism and wont take any shit either. Matt Jansen is currently his Assistant First Team coach at Stockport. Plays an aggressive pressing game. Tends go 3 at the back 3-5-2 variations or 4-3-3 over the years depending. And yes he can even get Miller to put a few more yards on his throw - being pre Delap & that. Came across Challinor a good few years ago in non league when I was a coach, scout, kitman ground worker, helper, sub board holder, player taxi driver dogsbody and magic sponge man.... But his teams always played slick football. I remember his Fylde team were so much better to watch than Stanley at the time all be it a couple of divisions below them & we played both in about a week. The way hes going Championship level clubs will be queing up for him sooner rather than later. Stockport know that and got him on a 3 year contract last summer, think it was. Maybe a sticking point.. Hes took each league by storm from Step7 right up to flying high in league one for the 2nd season in a row. My Blackpool fan mate was pretty dam impressed with their football when County played Blackpool the other week too. So that nails it then. Ha but in terms of earning an opportunity even at Championship level i think Challinors record is nothing but pretty outstanding. I dont see a problem with the step up. The guy keeps proving theirs no problem with the step ups. He ll adapt. Having been in non league, the late night journeys, the rough & tumble the fun & the mayhem. To rise up from that through all those leagues is something and some story. The cream always rises to the top. 6 Quote

I don't think so either... realistically we'd get a few extra walk ons for the first 2/3 matches.. Realise we still have the same poor players we've had all season and then not return until a prem team turns up for an FA Cup drubbing! 1 Quote

JHRover Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I really don't get the Alexander links. On paper he has a reasonable CV albeit that includes spells in Scotland and relatively well endowed clubs for the levels they were at - Bradford giants of League Two, MK Dons and Salford financially strong for their league, even Scunthorpe and Fleetwood were both throwing money at it when he was there. I don't understand why on earth he would walk away from a safe, secure job at Bradford, where he has a chance of promotion to the Championship this season, to come here and risk relegation. Maybe a pay rise but that's not much good if he's gone within 12 months or we go down. It is just random and bizarre. No connection, if anything the opposite with his PNE and dingle background. I'm struggling to see it. Presumably Bradford would want a hefty compensation package for him and his assistant, why pay that when there are alternatives with better records or no compensation required? Dean Smith I've never understood the fuss about either. Walsall - average - Brentford - mid table and they got promoted when he left and Thomas Frank took over. Villa he got promoted but with an incredible squad at his disposal. Probably far and away better than what we will ultimately end up with but he isn't a name that would generate any excitement or encouragement to me. Quote

StHelensRover Posted 49 minutes ago Posted 49 minutes ago (edited) I can't stomach the idea of Alexander. When he takes us down, the parties at the Dingledome and Deepdale where he is revered will be like the Ewoks at the end of Star Wars, we'll never hear the end of it.
