[Archived] Benni Mccarthy - Gone

Recommended Posts

Tis true..as someone else mentioned I'm pretty sure Benni's runs out in 2011.

We have so many players with contracts running out its hard to keep track!

Well if thats true then £1.25 million is a joke, if it was running out the summer then i could see the club taking it when you consider Sam doesn't rate him plus an opportunity to reduce the wage bill going into the summer.

If West Ham have put in a genuine bid it will be interesting to see Benni's reaction. I read a piece the other day that he would like to stay in England, but he needs to play week in week out to boost his World Cup chances. If Benni puts up a big sulk then i wonder how Sam and the club will react.

I think a few people need to take their Rovers tinted specs off for a minute. For a striker who is getting on a bit and hasn't played much football lately offering nearly two million (I reckon we could probably get that out of them) is quite good business I think.

With Benni being one of the top earners at the club we should have a bit of cash for wages too.

We all know that which ever club Benni goes too he would be on fire for the first couple of months but I doubt it would last much longer.

The question going to be thrown back is - who can we then get in for 2m to replace him. My answer - we can't (I did think Beckford but then I reminded myself that we already have Jason Roberts doing that job just fine)

Beckford would be awful, he isn't a good player but is a good lower-league poacher. Not a patch on Benni.

Keep Benni and play him I say and concentrate on getting Roberts out of the door.

If we do sell Benni then I would hope we will look at Mbokani at Standard Liege.

Depends on what we do with it.... Gudjohnsen would command at least the same

£2m for Benni when there are Rumours clubs will pay £3m for Beattie isnt really enough.

We managed to get £2.5m for Shefki dont forget!

If that money would be enough to bring Gudjohnsen here them I'm all for it.

Good shout.....

The offer is not enough, even if they offered £2 million, why sell him to one of your relegation rivals, it will make them stronger and increase their chances of survival.

Would not sell until the end of the season. Would be surprised if we could lure anyone of quality.

Like the manager's situation, if we cannot replace them adequately, there is little point.

He still has that touch of class/quality which we need.

Are you speaking as someone "in the know" or is this just an opinion Kamy?

I hope we keep him and play him. He will definitely get goals for us and if he goes he will definitely score goals for his new team...

Gotta agree - any deal has to be a clear £2.5m +. He may be getting on - but pace was never his main asset - so I can't see how his age has too much of an impact on his fee (other than resale value).

Though not his biggest fan £1.25m for an established Premiership goal scorer must be considered a joke.

We should go public & kick-off just like the pornos did when we got Savage from them.

Im sorry but unless we have a replacement set up or unless the money they offer is too go to turn down - then NO DEAL!

All depends on any replacement.

I'd accept £1.75m and be glad of getting him off the wage bill if we could get somebody in who converts two thirds as many chances as benni providing they did twice as much running for the money from this sale (easier said than done). I reckon you'd probably get more goals (definitely as many) from a player like that as they would actually get in the positions to score, which Benni only does every so often. Plus once Niko starts banging them in it'll take a little pressure off the other strikers.

Once Kalinic starts scoring Benni will start moaning anyway. We all know what happened when Santa Cruz became the main man.

If we can't replace then keep hold. Pointless selling him to a rival mid season.

We have a problem now because Benni will probably be desparate to join west ham.

If we reject the bid then he will sulk and we won't get another decent performance out of him until the transfer window shuts.

True. Annoying.

If he really is contracted till 2011 we should be looking for 4m I would say. Ambitous I know but he is a brilliant player on his day and already attracting far more interest than Beattie is who is rated at 3m.

Far more interest? 1 rumoured bid on SkySports and thats it!

You'll never get Benni for £4m unless you have half a dozen Man City's after him. He's not fit and he's well known for his moods and spitting his dummy out. Take what we can provided we can draft in another forward.

Really? I would say most teams struggling in the Prem will have a look at him alongside Galatasaray et al. I think there will be a bit of interest.

2m is not going to buy us a servicable player. it won't even get us Beattie for God's sake. We shouldn't sell for 'what we can get' we should sell for what he is worth to us. And I would say 4m is about right. If we get much less we should keep. He is looking like forming a good partnership with Kalinic.

We are 20 days into the window and nobody has put in a firm bid for Benni. I class anything in the papers and on Sky as rumours until Rovers actually announce the a bid/signing has been made. However I agree that we should sell for what it's worth to us, but I'm afraid like in any industry it's a buyers market at the moment and nobody other than Man City are going to pay over the odd's for players. The next couple of games could start to forge a good partnership between Fat Benni and Nicko and that could make Benni decide to want to stay.

As I have said before, this could work in our favour if he spends the rest of the season fighting for his world cup jersey wearing a Rovers shirt then we could have done well out of it.

If Benni is prepared to fight for his place in the Rovers 1st team and work on his fitness levels then he will be welcome to stay at the club by most of us.
