Nicko will not like being referred to as chief of the lynch mob I shouldn't think. What is it about you mancs that has to needle him so much?

Hmmmmm..... So if we are to believe his excuse then we need to dig a little deeper...

1. Who booked him in to observe the course and why knowing that it was completely pointless?

2. Why were the guys at Aberystwth not given even a courtesy call to say that he wasn't going to attend? Damned bad form that...... and I'm sure that we or he will still get a bill for the day. If we pay it then imo we are guilty as charged.

3. When did BRFC / Ince find out that the course was unacceptable to the English FA? I understood the requirement to be a UEFA stipulation, so I would imagine that the Welsh FA would be quite acceptable to them.

If 3 is the case then can anybody else smell more than a whiff of bullsh1t?

btw just noticed Alan Nixon has raised and answered some of these issues here...

Manc (apologies MR  ) ..... Do you believe everything that you hear? Take a good tip from me to help you through life... Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. You must have come down with the last shower of rain.:P

Its time to let go Theno and get behind our new manager. You may not llike the guy personally but FFS give him some breathing space(or maybe even a season  )

Didn't exactly install me with confidence, todays press conference. I just feel that Ince isn't ready yet he even said himself that he is still learning.

I will support him whole heartedly however and I'm living in hope that we will do okay this season. I'll no doubt feel more confident after the pre-season friendly games.

Best of luck Ince.

Me neither. He was very nervous and at the start he looked scared stiff. He's probably desperate for the pre-season training to start so he can get on with the job and stop having to answer questions about his colour and his coaching badge.

That's not what he said or meant.

Get a grip.

I know he never said that but I dont want Ince to use rovers just as a stepping stone to a bigger club which is what was indicated I want him to be at the club because he wants to.

Thought he did OK, not much different to Hughes, better than Kidd, not much different to Dalglish actually.

Dalglish made that great quip about the wife wanting him out the house. About the only word of it I made out!

As for today, I couldn't watch it live so was reading comments on here as it happened. I'd taped it though and watched it when I got home expecting a jibbering wreck for the first 5 minutes. Instead I saw Ince being a litle uncomfortable but OK.

Had that ben a press conference for another club and you'd seen it you wouldn't have really noticed he was nervous. It's only cos we were scrutinizing his every move.

I've also just watched it and thought he was fine. Granted, he's not the most eloquent of people, but I'm excited to see how our team is going to play with his ideas about attacking football.

The quip about the relegation battle was fantastic - very funny indeed!

Looking forward to seeing who he's going to bring in now. Don't for one second think he'll bring in anyone from MK Dons - that's just lazy journalism.

Good luck Incey. MAKE US PROUD.

Paul Ince came across fine to me. he will get better in his handling of the press conferences but showed himself to be a genuine football guy whose main aim is "to play attractive football" which is very heartening. But what an impressive figure John Williams is. We are so lucky to have someone of his calibre on board. it will be a sad day when he has to depart. As for Ince`s ambitions, of course he will want to manage at a higher level in time than we can offer him but at least let`s all enjoy the ride.

Seemed a little nervous but in all fairness he warmed up enough towards the end to drop in the line about being in the bottom three.

I think the most important part of the entire press conference was when Williams mentioned that we were in a position to appoint a younger more inexperienced manager as we were a stable top ten club. Of course it is no reason to be complacent but I think it is important to realise that even if the team doesn't get off to a flyer (when was the last time we came out of the blocks strongly?) then we still need to give him time.

Now I hope and expect to finish in the top ten, well in a Euro spot really, again anyway but even if we do drop down to an unthinkable low of 15th or whatever, I don't want to see the merry go round so favoured by the mid table 'big' clubs.

He is a coach not a press bitch.he doesnt have to talk to the media.

Well it really is part of the job.

I said earlier that he looked very nervous, and while you're right his role is to manage BRFC, I feel that how he conducted his first press conference gives some indication into the type of person he is. From my point of view I liked the fact that he was nervous, it shows that he isn't as much of a 'big time charlie' as some people portrayed.

prior to today i have had a very low opinion of paul ince. i did not like how he conducted himself both on and off the field. i also wrote quite a scathing criticism of him on nicko's thread; quite frankly i much preferred michael laudrup. but in today's press conference there was a genuineness about ince that i had not seen before; perhaps he has matured. i hope that he does well for all the fans who have followed rovers for decades. i also hope that he becomes as highly regarded as hughes is, for brfc will have benefitted from his success. anyhow, good luck to ince and let's have 'em playing some good footy!!!!!

I'll go with that. Clearly he was nervous. I take that as a good thing, the job clearly means a lot to him. I'd prefer him to be nervous than all cocky and eloquent.

You can't judge much by a press conference but I warmed to him. Bring it on.

He also had abit of humour that we never saw in Hughes

He missed one hell of a chance to use that and throw the media over-emphasis on the 1st black issue right back at the massed ranks. Even I would have warmed to him if his first words had been along the lines of .......

I have a dream....... that one day soon this great club of ours will rise up to its former greatness and sit with pride at the summit of English football.

I have a dream .............that one day the FA will be made to repent before the Lord for the injustice of the fair play league.

I have a dream ......... that one day the referees will be fair and just and equal to all clubs big or small, rich or poor.

spot on bob, my view exactly. I think he should of worn a tie though.

Ok. Have only seen the short bit that's on the BBC website, but ANYONE who thinks "Johnny" Barnes did a good job as a manager at Celtic needs a serious realignment of his view of success. And if he does that good a job here, he'll be out on his ear in 3 months.

But would he have won you over if he'd managed to work 'As I look ahead, I am filled with foreboding' in? ;)

In Barnes' defence, he did provide one of the best headlines in tabloid history.

Anyway, he was slightly nervous, but seemed pretty decent. Interesting to see who they are lining up to get into the coaching team. Tugay can't do it all himself. John Williams was very impressive in front of the media. Mind you if you were a porn star in the 70's and model your look on Des Lynam, you should be confident.

Not sure many Neil. It seems that a lot of people on here are 'disposed to mistake predicting troubles for causing troubles and even for desiring troubles'. :)

This topic is about the press conference... and this was not a good press conference. Whilst I appreciate that you never stop learning, Ince saying that he was still learning rankled with me a bit. If that's the type of appointment that Rovers are looking for, i.e. someone who will grow *with* the club, fine. But I understand that as a top half team, that we are looking for someone who already has the requisite qualifications. Even if the board accept that Ince's achievements to-date are the requisite qualifications. To be fair, the "learning" comment was more about his style of management... but it was a little unsettling for me.

I too felt sorry for Ince, because he was very nervous... and obviously looking for an outlet when he made that quip (which was ok. no problem there).

In any case, I acknowledge that this is just a press conference, and is irrelevant as to how he'll actually go as a manager.

Anyone who thinks they are not still learning scares me. But I'm sure you know everything about your job....
