More of the same stuff the fans tactics from Rovers this pre-season. Nice to announce it now when most people me included have booked returns to Edinburgh coming back on the Sunday. Not only will it mean missing this game but no doubt we'll see the same half a team we saw at Fleetwood.

Likewise MB long time booked on a cheap ticket, have just found a 8 quid single journey from glasgo]w back to preston on the sunday but now looking at the hotels its turning out to be a little expensive (addeed to the bar bill of course).

I would think it'd be cheaper and easier to find somewhere to stay in Glasgow. It was hard enough weeks ago finding the accom in Edinburgh because of the festival.

Well here's one Rovers fan that wont be going to the Celtic match, even though I live within an hours travel from Celtic Park. I will be going to the Hearts match though. I swore 26 years ago that I would NEVER set foot inside Celtic Park and I never will! ......... not even to support Rovers.

My reason? Dates back to a match at Falkirk's old ground Brockville where I was at the time living quite near Falkirk and had been a supporter at Brockville on a regular basis for a couple of seasons. Falkirk were playing Celtic and I went along as usual and took up my favourite place on the home supporters terracing (Falkirk equivalent of the BBE). I had gone early to ensure that I would get my fav place as I knew it would be a sell out, and had got nicely settled and as time ticked on towards kick -off I became more and more anxious as I realised that there were no home fans around me at all. In fact the as far as I could see there were no home fans anywhere inside the ground except in the main stand. ALL the standing areas right round the ground (not just the usual away end) was one mass of green and white, and I was right in the middle of them on the home supporters end behind the goals. Anyway as the match got started I just did my usual thing and shouted out "come on you Bairns" BIG MISTAKE!! The next thing I knew I was rounded on by several of the Celtic yobs standing around me, and told to shut my F'ing mouth etc, and when I protested they became much more animated when they realised I was English as well. Next thing I found myself involved in a full scale punch up and although I could handle myself in my younger days and was well used to getting battered in punch-ups with the Yanks when in the Navy, I was heavily out numbered and had no chance. Yes I got a battering and the thing that annoyed me the most was the Police who were standing at the back of the terracing just a few rows back did absolutely NOTHING about it. I did eventually manage to extricate myself and struggle to the top of the terracing where the police were standing, and when I protested at what had happened and asked why the entire home end had been allowed to be invaded by Celtic fans all I got was a shrugged-off reply to the effect "what can we do about it?" and an offere to escort me to the nearest exit and let me out of the ground, which needless to say I angrily accepted.

I then went to the nearest Police Station in Falkirk centre and put in a formal complaint, but all that that resulted in was a letter from the Chief Constable after two weeks or so, and which apologised for my experience but pointed out that I should have realised (as apparently virtually ALL the Falkirk fans know well) that this was an old firm visit, and it is the norm that for old firm visits the visiting fans arrive in such huge numbers that they completely swamp small grounds like Brockville, and there is nothing the police can do to stop it because the old firm fans are all over Scotland in every town and street even. They just roll up at the grounds in their many thousands and pay on the gate and there is nothing the police can do about it. This was of course long before all-seated and all-ticket matches which had to be purchased in advance through your own club came about.

Ayway the upshot was that I sworw then that I would never again go into any football ground anywhere when the old firm were involved and I never have. The fans of both are the most bigoted idiots that anyone could have the misfortune to meet.

Hmmm, despite being a Scottish Rover who would normally be quite excited about the announcement of a Rovers match in Scotland, I'm actually a bit disappointed to hear about the Celtic match.

Firstly, because I feel sorry for those fans who would have loved to have gone to the match but who have already made travel arrangements for getting back down South.

And secondly, because it presumably means the first team will be split between the Hearts and Celtic games, and so we won't see a strong side in either.

But I suppose friendlies are more about preparation rather than entertaining the fans or getting a result, so if we hit the ground running in the Prem I won't complain

Our pre-season has been a disaster if you look at the results. I hope the performances have been better than they look, but I fear they're not.

Billy, when were we anything but totally pish during pre season? Now I am getting on a bit now, but it must be a good long while since we put anyone to the sword in pre season?

We're usually rubbish to very mediocre at best aren't we?

I'm just hoping we see the real Rovers start to emerge against AEK, and we certainly need a good performance against Celtic (As they will be up for it under their new management!)

Bit of a bummer if you live in Glasgow and half your family are Celtic fans though......

Good for you for sticking to your guns, when Celtic came to Ewood in 2002 it was like turning the clock back 25 years, and they won a bloody 'fair play' award that season as well????!!!!. I've got both my lads coming down to Ewood this season, we'll either see you on the train or at the Hearts game.

Surely with 1 week to go before the season starts we want to be playing our strongest XI together in readiness for the first game. I just don't see the point in the Celtic game, there's no point in playing 2 weakened teams on the Sat and then the Sunday. Maybe playing a fringe team for one of the games but then is that fair on the fans to travel all the way to Scotland, or to arrange to stay another night, to see pretty much a youth team.

I realise its all about the depth of the squad these days but can we really pick 2 strong teams from the players we have?

Just my thoughts, but maybe the club should publish Sams intensions for the games.

Seriously worried for the coming season. Worried about our squad, tactics and the fact weve been awful in pre season.

I also think Newcastle and West Brom will be better than the teams that went down, making the league harder.

Actually, I'm not all that worried. Pre-season performances mean very little, especially when our metier is grinding out results. Players are usually stuck in first-gear, trying to build up their fitness and avoid any injuries. It's the lack of quality added to the squad that concerns me most.

Agreed. I would be happier if we had won a few games, but I don't see it as having a big affect on the season opener. We are desperately short of quality in the midfield and need another striker urgently. I'll be concerned if by the start of the season these areas of the team haven't been improved.

Wasn't that the same as least pre-season?...in fact during most of the season itself?

We finished 10th.

It can't be as bad as pre-season 1994...and we did alright that year.
