Bennisfromheaven Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 If Houghton is the best we can do Id rather have Sparky back!!! He did a great job here & only left cause we had no money to spend!! Still knows most of the players & should be able to have an instant impact!! I hope that this is a well thought out decision & if so I should think that they already know who they will put in place!! If we end up with someone like Houghton or Megson I think it says alot!!!
JMillZz Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Mike Bassett?? I was never a fan of Allardyce's football but I'm a bit shaky about all this. I think Jol is the stand out name with realistic odds that I'd like to see in charge.
chaddyrovers Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Keeeeeeeegan!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My choice would McClaren or Jol!!! Maybe Hoddle but not O'Neill tho!!! Shearer could be possible option with a experience Number 2 like Steve Clarke!!! If Shearer was manager he would want full control over transfers and be the main man at the club!!! so can't see that happening tbh. BUT HIS APPOINTMENT WOULD PLEASED MOST FANS BECAUSE HE IS A ROVERS LEGEND AND HERO!!!!!
Trickstar Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Shocking decision to get rid of sam but whoever comes in I hope they keep up his good work in bringing the youngsters through into the first team squad personal choice would be Jol experience in europe and premiership or Bilic bit of a gamble but could get the best out of Kalanic. If we go for someone like Houghton or Curbishley I can only see this as a backwards step
SamTheShrew Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I would have thought it must be Martin Jol - I can't see any other people who immediately tick the boxes (it better not be Sven) Cautious days ahead. Should be exciting times, but not quite sure I would call myself that yet
S15 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Big Sam? Big Phil. Scolari! Scolari! Scolari! If the new man isn't a comically big name I'll be annoyed.
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Stan Collymore thinks Jol will be the new manager. He does usually talk a load of ###### though.
imy9 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I sense a first team coach and a general manager await us.
Cheeky Sidders Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 We need someone who knows how to put on a show, knows our club and cares about it. Step forward Mr Tugay Kerimoglu. Assistant Manager at Galatasaray is enough for the man.
True Blue & White Posted December 13, 2010 Author Posted December 13, 2010 According to Stan Collymore, Martin Jol is 'nailed on' for Rovers. big Sam will then go to Wolves and McCarthy to Ipswich.
broadsword Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Bet Roy Keane would be pleased about that! Not:- McLaren O'Neill Hoddle Souness Megson Sven Zola O'Leary Jones Dalglish Holloway Hughton Shearer Curbishley!!!!!!!!!!!! Would take the following - di Matteo (highly unlikely) - Jol - Lambert - Poyet How about Henk ten Caat, whatever happened to him?!
SamTheShrew Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 According to Stan Collymore, Martin Jol is 'nailed on' for Rovers. big Sam will then go to Wolves and McCarthy to Ipswich. As if he knows that. The only ounce of truth likely to be in that could be Jol, but anyone could put 2+2 together
daveoftherovers Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 What about Tugay and Savage!!??? LOL
OsloRover Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Just get Guus Hiddink in, problem solved. Seriously though, no way are Venky's stupid enough to sack Sam for a rookie or someone with a lower profile than him. And Sam is quite a well-known guy. I have a feeling it's Svennis, not sure if I like it though.
Stuart Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Anyone got Ron Atkinson's number? Possibly Marcel Dessailly.
Inta Beaver Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 No. Why would anybody? He is a young manager who would try and play entertaining football, maybe what the owners are looking for! I'm not shouting from the roof tips to get Zola in, it's only a suggestion!
DannyKeg Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Jol apparently originates from the seaside resort of Scheveningen, and he was at their home game on Saturday. http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/voetbal/8480483/__Martin_Jol_naar_Scheveningen__.html?p=17,2
S15 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Possibly Marcel Dessailly. Too lazy to ever call though..

I'm not shouting from the roof tips to get Zola in, it's only a suggestion! But he was a massive failure at West Ham....
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Just occured to me that sacking Big Sam means he's almost bound to go one of the bottom teams. Who's betting against him keeping whoever it is up ? Maybe at our expense. It also occured to me that we were getting in first before a few more Premier League managers get the chop, at least we get first pick this way. As for candidates- Shearer ! You've got to be kidding, he showed nothing at Newcastle, they went down without a whimper. We'd be better of with Grayson at Leeds or Keith Hill at Rochdale if we want an ex-Rover, which I don't. Martin Jol is probably the stand out candidate at the moment. I'm not sure the Holloway magic would work at a club like ours but he's doing a great job for Blackpool.
