Backroom DE. Posted October 9, 2015 Author Backroom Posted October 9, 2015 Klopp's career at both Mainz and Dortmund followed a similar trend. At Mainz he got them promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time, and the next season got them into Europe. The next season they were relegated and he couldn't get them promoted the year after, so he quit. At Dortmund he took them to the title and the final of the CL, but then it all went wrong and once again he stepped down. His Liverpool tenure could be very similar to Rodgers. Liverpool will have to hope he's learnt from his last two jobs and has fresh ideas on how to stop the decline when it begins.

JHRover Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 That's Sunderland free from relegation then. No chance they will go down with Big Sam in charge. Added pressure now on Villa and Newcastle.
Backroom DE. Posted October 9, 2015 Author Backroom Posted October 9, 2015 Allardyce confirmed as Sunderland manager. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34491345 One of Sam's biggest challenges imo, if not the biggest. We had a far better team than Sunderland when he took over from Ince. He must have been given assurances about having cash to spend in January. How long before Nolan is a Sunderland player?
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted October 9, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted October 9, 2015 Not long I bet, he's a free agent still.
Backroom DE. Posted October 9, 2015 Author Backroom Posted October 9, 2015 Apparently Allardyce is the highest paid manager in Sunderland's history. Looks like Mr Short is serious about keeping them up.
Baz Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Allardyce confirmed as Sunderland manager. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34491345 Boo! You just know he'll do well for them. Some of my mackem mates will be unbearable.
joey_big_nose Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Liverpool is a real difficult job as the fans expect the team to compete with the Manchester clubs, arsenal and Chelsea but they just don't have the resources and ability to sign top players since they dropped out of regularly qualifying of the CL. Also the Sterling and Suarez money has been largely wasted. A few years ago a legitimate target would be second (which Rogers achieved against the odds, and nearly won the title) but now fourth would be an achievement. Don't think the majority of scousers will see it that way though. Not ready to think they are in the same bracket as Spurs and Everton but that's really where they are.
roverandout Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 If they can keep sturridge fit, they have a 20 goal a season striker
Al Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Bowyer is coming good.that can happen when managers are given time..Hope springs eternal!

I think this may be a bridge too far for Big Sam. He is inheriting a poor bunch of players and supporters that exit the stadium when they go 2 down

If not then he's only got to pick one more off like Villa or Newcastle.

Rodgers spent £291m in his time at Liverpool, hardly slim pickings when it comes to resources.
Dunnfc Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Rodgers spent £291m in his time at Liverpool, hardly slim pickings when it comes to resources. Net spend was around 25million a season right? Okay he spunked it up the wall good and proper but what could SAF or Mourinho do with those figures?
joey_big_nose Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Rodgers spent £291m in his time at Liverpool, hardly slim pickings when it comes to resources.True but they can't sign the likes of Diego Costa, Schweinsteuger, Fabregas, Ozil etc. They just won't come because they are not a regular CL club any more.Moneys part of it, but the main issue is they are no longer perceived as elite. Same as Spurs. The rise of man city has knocked Liverpool out of the CL cartel.
Baz Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Net spend was around 25million a season right? Okay he spunked it up the wall good and proper but what could SAF or Mourinho do with those figures? 25m on one or 2 good players per season is sufficient to build on, instead he was spending £15m on the likes of Borini, £4m on Lambert etc... They may not have been in the champions league but they are still have massive pulling power, and massive financial muscle. The longer he was there the further he was away from getting a team together, or looking like he could.
sambo Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34520083 Article on Newcastle. They love a good moan, although sometimes with good reason. Didn't Ashley give them a shed load to spend this summer? Long overdue but seems like they splashed the cash!
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted October 15, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted October 15, 2015 Saw that article yesterday. They've loads of fans, but that's genuinely it, so many of them with a sense of entitlement it's ridiculous. This was my favourite quote: 'It would be difficult to find another set of fans in world football who have been so badly served.' Swing and a miss there lad.
davulsukur Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 They should be forced to have Venkys, Singh, Shaw, Agnew & Anderson in charge of their club for a 3 year period. Then we can see how badly they are served.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted October 15, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted October 15, 2015 I've never known a set of fans more insular with such tunnel vision than Newcastle fans.
Amo Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 It's all relative, though, ain't it? There's probably some Blackpool fans who think we act hard done by compared to what they've had to endure.
Ricky Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Liverpool have now lost Ings and Gomez for the rest of the season.
blueboy3333 Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/oct/16/sam-allardyce-sunderland-manager a collection of views on SA, including one from John Williams. Andy Morrison looks like he's just been inflated, although obviously i wouldn't tell him that cos he was a bit of a nutter apparently
