[Archived] Would you be happy if Red Bull bought Blackburn Rovers?

Recommended Posts

This thread probably warrants a better OP, but I will give it a go. If you don't know about Red Bull and their links with football clubs, I advise taking a look, it is fascinating. In short they own 4 football teams; Brasil, Salzburg, New York and most (in)famously Leipzig. To put it mildly, their ownership of a German club has not gone down well, mostly with supporters of other clubs, I would imagine. The success they have brought there since the club was founded 8 years ago is incredible. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3599158/Why-RB-Leipzig-hated-club-Germany-Owned-Red-Bull-crafty-sponsor-s-outpriced-fan-power-aiming-Bayern-Munich.html

So ,lets be honest, if a collection of serial killers got together and offered to buy the club at the moment, some fans would probably consider it a good deal. Lets put our current owners aside as much as possible. Redbull are apparently looking at buying a British club for a while now, with Brentford, Charlton and Bournemouth the names I see mentioned. Charlton make sense as they are in or around London and would be a relatively cheap way to buy a city club. The other 2 begin with a B, which seems to me like as good a reason as any for them to be bought :)

  • Would buying Blackburn Rovers make any sense financially? I would say that it would. As former Premier league winners, turning this club around would be great for marketing. Ok, I'm biased.
  • Would you welcome them with open arms? Personally, I would welcome them with both open arms and legs, in a purely  platonic and innocent manner of course.
  • Would you enjoy seeing Burnley fans cry salty and delicous tears upon hearing the news? Yes :)
  • Do you think that they will buy a club in the UK eventually? I honestly don't have a clue

Any thoughts on this welcome. I'm just daydreaming I think

No it wouldn't make any sense if it included inheriting a large part of the debt.

No.

I reckon they would be thrilled about it and if a takeover happens there's far more important things on my mind.

Neither do I. Don't really want any club to have to suffer but especially not Rovers. At least with Leipzig they didn't completely screw someone over. Think they just bought someones league place and the club in question while briefly demoted pretty much got back to that level easily.

I'd drink and wash in Red Bull for the rest of my life if they got rid of these dickheads.

All joking aside though I think the joy would be short lived. I'd be ecstatic that they would be gone, probably have the biggest knees up of my life the next home game, but then I'd wake up the next day to a big Red Bull can sign being hoisted up in front of Ewood Park. I'd see the signs "for Ewood Park follow..." slowly be replaced to "for the Red Bull Arena follow.." and all of a sudden I think I'd have this feeling of not belonging again. I'd be over the moon that we'd have a board of people with interests in our success but then I'd still have the feeling that their interests didn't match my own. Success, for them, is a success for Red Bull. Success for me is a success for Rovers. Our paths will always be parallel, which may not be a bad thing but will also take a sense of belonging away from me.

Red Bull owning football clubs is part of the problem of modern football. It will offer us a solution to our problem but then we'd be contributing to a whole other issue; we'd be part of the disease of the game.

Blackburn Rovers becomes "Red Bull Rovers" or "RB Blackburn": it just doesn't feel the same. Roar will grow wings: not the same.

It might sound like I'm being very doom & gloom about it all but I'd much rather this club belong in the hands of a Blackburn fan.

  • Backroom
  • Would buying Blackburn Rovers make any sense financially? If the aim was to lose money then yes, otherwise no. Two promotions whilst clearing the club's substantial debt (reportedly Venky's want it paid back in full) and investing in new players to achieve said promotions would be some feat. Then there's the small task of keeping us in the PL.
  • Would you welcome them with open arms? I'd welcome Stan Ternent buying us at this point.
  • Would you enjoy seeing Burnley fans cry salty and delicous tears upon hearing the news? Only once we're in the same league and putting them back in their place.
  • Do you think that they will buy a club in the UK eventually? Depends on the likelihood of making money. They've got enough brand awareness here so they don't need Rovers for that. It's become increasingly difficult in the UK to make consistent profits in football and it's very easy to start making hefty losses which make the club as an asset very hard to get rid of.

Without having the chance to think about this one yet, I have answered any of the points you have made BDS. One thing that strikes be though is Red Bull FC RBFC & BRFC sound similar. On the continent, the adjective, always come after the noun. Red Bull for example, translates in Spanish to Toro Rojo (Bull Red) Bull Red FC = BRFC perfect. :)

Their can design is blue and silver quadrants not that far away from blue and white halves...

I think all Rovers fans would welcome any new owners and investment with open arms at the moment, can't be any worse than what we have to had endure under the current regime. Lets face it football is hugely commercialised anyway there days it's only a matter of time before sponsored team names become even more common.

I couldn't think of a better English club for them to buy although we might end up as Blackburn Red Bull Rovers or something but seriously who cares if it got us away from the bandits and Indians ?

If by any wild dream chance they put a big offer in i'm sure it would be well received in Pune by all except the tosser who's playing with the club with his pals and putting money in his and their back pockets.

Sadly red Bull is all that this idea is...

However, the prospect of being taken over by ANY organisation with even the slightest interest in the realities of football, and with the resources, strategies and professional intent to build a successful club, would have to be seriously considered. In common with the majority of any long-suffering fans of Blackburn Rovers, I would take anyone over the backwards stawt of Pune, whose stewardship of this proud and famous brand has been reckless and an insult to the club.

Personally I'd be more than happy to see the Red Bull brand alongside the blue and white halves, and would wear the shirt (complete with Red Bull logo) once again with pride, instead of feeling sad each time I put it on. I was interviewed outside Ewood the day after the backwards stawt bought the club and at the time said I was ''cautiously optimistic' about the prospects going forward. How hollow those words seem now, in retrospect.

We live and hope. (not holding my breath)

Ya, thats the thing. If we were winning, I don't think anyone would care if we had Red bull on our jerseys or even if it was the Ewood Red Bull Dome or whatever. Currently we are in League 1 with Venkys hoardings around the pitch(I am pretty sure I saw that, but correct me if I am wrong) and then there was that absolutely stomach churning advert of our players eating their McShit sandwiches. No wonder so many bailed out.

If we were back in the Premiership, Redbull could attach actual novelty wings to the jerseys and I wouldn't care.
