Johnson, Travis and Buckley are all be better than him. Cunningham, Johnson and Gallagher are excellent signings. We are stronger now imo, with much more height and heading ability. Interesting , imo Reed is a far superior player to anyone in our midfield , as of now...Buckley may turn out to be better in time .... 4

But the counter argument to that is, if we could defend we wouldn't need our centre half to chip in with 10 goals. We couldn't defend in league one and we certainly couldn't defend in the championship last year. I like Mulgrew but I don't see him defend his box well enough. I don't see him stride out with the ball. Most importantly I don't see him really break sweat. That header last weekend is unforgivable for a centre half. No pressure. Just read the flight of the ball. But let's not be too harsh. 3 years ago his actual position wasn't even defined. 1
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Not sure our defence is any weaker than it was in League 1. All I know is that last week I was pretty gutted to see Mulgrew’s name on the team sheet after how poor he was last season. In isolation, him leaving is not a problem. Williams looked more solid when he played CB. That says it all. Reed is an odd one. We have no need for him. Good player but not required. Seems like a waste of energy to try and get him back. TM has played his cards. No excuses. He’s had the time and money to make this work.

Popular Post patrickvalery Posted August 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2019 I'd rather have spent £5m on Reed than Gallagher. 11

Paul Mellelieu Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 BTW, can any window be more "humiliating" than signing and not signing Roy Keane? Ot missing out on Zidane? Or the Polish centre forward? 3

Popular Post Ewood Ace Posted August 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2019 So a shocking window comes to an end. Despite all Mowbray's defenders are coming nonsense it was more a case of defenders are going with 4 out and 2 loans in. Mowbray has certainly changed his tune from when he left Coventry saying you can't build a team on loans, yet 3 of our back 5 will be loans. Mowbray clearly had no plan about what he wanted, our summer was similar to last season we seem to have gone with the same scatter gun approach picking up players who we think can do a job here and there whilst spending the bulk of the budget on a young striker. Today's chaotic events clearly were not planned and are just a sign that the manager had no plan in place. I'm not a great fan of Directors of Football but as I have said previously if Mowbray was to manage us this season then a condition of that should have been a DOF being brought in, as he showed last season he is not up to it in the market. Whilst Mulgrew was clearly past his best to let him go and not bring another centre back in is pure lunacy. I personally thought even with Mulgrew staying we needed another one. Our centre back options are now Lenihan who is decent but injury prone, Williams who is a left back and injury prone, Tosin who couldn't get a game there for WBA, Nyambe who is a full back and Grayson who struggled to get into Grimsby's team last season. The options are even worse than they were last season, we must have as many left backs as centre backs. When I was saying Mowbray out last season people were saying to me give him the summer window to make the required changes. I have seen the summer window and my opinion has only been strengthened. Mowbray Out! 10

Popular Post dinglebasher Posted August 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2019 Sorry to interrupt the communal wrist slitting with a controversial opinion but how about we put away the razor blades until we’ve seen how this lot play football matches? This message board has been chock full of criticism of Mulgrew (who, if we’re honest, was scarcely good enough for League 1 at centre half - we only looked defensively competent that season when Lenihan came back in), Raya and Smallwood, and TM has binned them all off. Smallwood wasn’t even in the squad on Saturday. Ultimately, managers live and die by their signings, and in general, TM has improved the squad massively since he took over. The midfield in his first match was Feeney, Lowe, Conway and Guthrie. Emnes was up front with DG, with Steele in goal. The bench was Stokes, Gallagher, Tomlinson, Joao, Wes Brown, Tomlinson, Raya and Mahoney, and the context was a club in free fall with a transfer embargo and indifferent / insane ownership. To improve the squad from that line up to the current one, whilst bringing us out of FFP and in the context of Venkys is nothing short of miraculous. We should be grateful we have a club at all, and for those of you expecting Premier League football three years after that situation - check yourselves. Shall we not just see how they get on? 21

Popular Post Mercer Posted August 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2019 I think this window just shows Mowbray and Waggott are not up to their respective jobs. IMO, no strategy, no nous, just smacks of panic. Our three defensive signings are all loans - where the feck does that leave us next season!? Mulgrew has been an influential figure since the day he arrived and I think we are seeing growing signs that Mowbray is losing, if he hasn't already lost, the dressing room. I have never been convinced by either Mowbray or Waggott since they first arrived and concerns about their inabilities and credibility grow with each passing day. I firmly believe that if our club is to progress, Waggott, Mowbray, Venus, Lowe and Benson need sacking at the earliest opportunity. 12
