Ranting about trivial issues

The sad individuals who've got so drunk already today, they won't even be able to watch the game. I mean, seriously, Bargain Booze and Wetherspoons will still be there tomorrow.

Plus dollops of mayonnaise always be mixed in with perfectly good tuna in 'tuna' sandwiches.

I switch on Radio Lancashire in a morning to get the latest local news and travel update. I have to listen to the inane drivel coming out of Graham Liver and Leanne. It's the same rubbish every day with always a hint of smutty innuendo; like two kids in a primary school yard. I soon switch to radio 4 or 5 live.

I see that crackpot Piers Corbyn was demonstrating against Vaccines in London yesterday, police attacked, arrests made, bottles thrown and general disorder, its been a feature of many demonstrations throughout this pandemic and it would be naïve to think that the mass gathering hadn't caused many deaths across the country. Not much coverage in the media at all really.

Sunday 11th July - England v Italy - Small scale disorder, a fence got pushed over and a barrier breached, its still in the news today, but its football supporters, 100,000+ of them in London that day, hooligans that lot of them.

Double standards? I'd say so, been going on for years, gutter press.

.....and I've got another one.

Hired some equipment from HSS hire last week, what a palaver......

First of all ordered online, thats the protocol at the moment, put my card details in, message comes up, cancelled order, but the money has gone from the account.

Rang them up.

"We don't take any money up front sir"

"Well its gone from my account"

"I've just checked, you'll get it back in 5 days, its in a holding area"........

"What about my kit"?

"Order it again online but use a different card"

That worked and the equipment was delivered, but upon closer inspection a main part was missing, the drivers gone by this time.........

"You've dropped off xxxx and xxxx is missing"

"Can you nip to B&Q and buy the part, it'll be quicker than us coming back out to you"

"Should that not be, I'm sorry we've made a mistake"?

"Happens all the time sir, but I am sorry yes"

Told them to pick the lot back up and reimburse me, supposed to arrive yesterday, not seen them so far, could come today who knows.

Shambles from start to finish, I'll never use HSS hire again.

Similar story with Argos this weekend too, but I won't bore you with the details.

Tech support...

Now I need internet for my work - especially in the current climate. I know there is no issue on my end, but I'm still told to unplug this, restart that, check this, and check that. I bloody work in IT, so I would know if there were any issues down at my end. I have changed nothing and all is exactly how it was working the night before.

I also know that my net was cut right after the cutoff point for people to have to pay their bills. So it was clear as day to me that my name was somehow on this list - despite my direct debit coming out and paying it the week before.

They could see that my payment had gone in but were still adamant it must be something on my end. I had to go through all kinds of rigmarole, spoke to 4 different tech (apparently) support agents who were obviously just following some script rather than thinking for themselves. Finally got through to one last guy and by this point I was quite angry, told him im not going through his script again and for him to go and take a proper look. Two minutes later, and it was like he just flicked a switch and it was back on.  6 hours of faffing about, lost work, and losing even more hair off an already shiny head.

Speaking of tech support I've noticed when ever I phone IT now they always do or get me to do gpupdate force. Is this because they're self conscious about "switching it off and on again" becoming a bit of a joke. I'm fairly sure gpupdate doesn't apply to half the issues I've had.

An old one, but speaking of tech support puts me in mind of this gents, some fruity language from the start, but used to have me in stitches 😂

The bit about it being plugged in reminded me of when I worked in an organisation full of middle aged women and was therefore due to being under 30,🙄🤔🤔🤔 by default first line IT support to help the main IT guy out.

I had the reception ring up one morning to complain that her computer just wasn't switching on and it was completely dead. I asked if it was plugged in and was met by quite an angry response and called a cheeky little ****. So I got up, walked down stairs "SEE LOOK, ITS PLUGGED IN TO THAT EXTENSION LEAD!!!!" I then calmly walked to the end of the extension lead, unplugged the hoover from the wall and plugged the extension lead back in and switched her computer on and walked out. She was a bit sheepish after that 🤣

I work in a sector that could be described in these terms. Many years ago I was running a conference where one of the speakers had given backword at the 11th hour and we had an hour-long plenary session to fill. So we quickly came up with a fun event that we called 'Mock the Geek', which was loosely based on housing knowledge (it was a social housing conference) with two hastily press-ganged teams of housing professionals and me being the quiz master and MC. One of the panelists was an ex boss of mine, a woman in her 50s and a right pain in the arse tbh.

She hadn't changed much and was not really getting into the spirit of the session and as I wandered over to another one of my ex colleagues on the front row who had also endured her as a boss and said to him "I see she hasn't discovered HRT yet then" I realised within a nanosecond that I hadn't muted my lapel mic and the whole audience heard it. Cue the tumbleweed with about 300 stern - nay vicious - middle aged female faces staring up at me (including my then wife lol) and for years afterwards whenever anyone had any sort of embarrassing moment at that organisation it was described as their 'HRT moment'.......

I find Graham Liver's show very entertaining.  Him and Leanne have a funny banter which goes close to the bone, but is harmless enough.  He's a Rovers fan, even named after former centre half, Graham Hawkins.  His show might not be everyone's cup of tea, but we all have different tastes, especially at six o'clock in the morning.

We had hot dogs for tea tonight, and Mrs E cut down through the buns from the top instead of side-to-side across.

Is it grounds for divorce?

Sacrilege!

I was in London before the pandemic and they have a restaurant that specialises in hot dogs and champagne, if she doesn't invest in a bottle next time to accompany the food thats reason enough for divorce!!

Just seen its been lost to Covid:

That would definitely push it into grounds for divorce!

When you've spent years cooking for a husband and 4 kids after a day at work you might understand my attitude!  Only time they ever dared complain, I packed my bags, got in the car and drove half way to my mum and dad's house on Teesside before I thought better of it. When I got back the kids had cleared up, cleaned up and got ready for bed. They never complained again.
