Was looking at what you'd written there, and trying to work out if it was some kind of acronym. But nope. I don't think it is. Then I was thinking, is it a riddle, or some kind of cryptic clue to a deeper underlying meaning? There is a minimum rate that foreign players moving to Championship clubs expect, its currently somewhere between £5K & £8K per week, and rising year on year..

This is still less than half of what more established players would demand

Would the player  his agent and the selling club not be kicking off if we flew him all the way over here after agreeing a fee and  then we turned around and started to try and alter the terms of the deal?

And surely if no issue with his medical wouldn't him or his agent release some sort of statement denying it?He wants a move away

Tavares - reported fee: £1,72 million (2 million euros), alleged salary: £10 000 / week (based on his previous salary at Moreirense)
De Neve - reported fee: £650 000 (750 000 euros), alleged salary: £5 000 / week (based on his previous salary at Kortrijk)
Alebiosu- reported fee: £500 000 (576 000 euros), alleged salary: £2 500 / week (based on his previous salary at Kortrijk)
McLoughlin - reported fee: £500 000 (575 000 euros), alleged salary: £10 000 / week (based on his previous salary at Hull)

Total: 
Transfer fees: £3 370 000
Salaries (per year, assuming all four signings have the same salary as last season): 27 500 x 52 = £1 430 000

£3 370 000 (fees) + £1 430 000 (salaries) = £4 800 000

Outgoings - Ingoings = £1 934 000 left to be spent on fees and salaries. 

This amount is equivalent to signing a player on a free for roughly £37 000 per week OR paying £1.5 million in transfer fee and offer a salary of roughly £8 300 per week (Baradji anyone?).

So, not much left in the coffers i guess?
 

EDIT: one caveat to all this could be, of course, that we're paying the transfer fees in instalments. But I don't think the owners would like taking on more debt for relatively 'insignificant' transfers (or maybe they are 'significant' just like with Kargbo?). 

I really doubt some of those figures. If Dolan was really only on £3k a week I am sure he would have signed a new deal as I guess we would have offered around £8k to £10k. For him to hold out I think he must have been on more than that. And I doubt Markanday who we paid a significant figure for and was highly rated at Spurs would have come for £2k a week. I am sure a lot more than that. Woodrow on 20k just doesn't seem right to me either.

But I get these are all estimates, and you are just trying to build up a rough picture. And love how you have done it - always good to see some actual maths!

I don't consider it crazy any more. It is clear that we are behind most, if not all, other Championship clubs when it comes to offering good contracts to potential players.

We seem to have a policy of not offering long term deals, even the recent McLoughlin signing bizarrely limited to 2 years. This is important in negotiations as many players, particularly those in their  mid to late 20s, will expect 3-4 year deals. 

We have seen recently that Derby County are a more attractive prospect than we are these days - finances will be a part of that - Eustace, his staff, Weimann and Batth all more attracted to what they offer than what we do. This despite the fact that they were in administration and League One very recently and have well publicised financial limitations under their current owner, with him seeking external investment to help. 

We have seen PNE and Millwall spending or trying to spend money that we haven't seen spent here in many a year, despite them bringing in less than us from sales. 

Oxford are investing and recently signed a player we were supposedly keen on but couldn't get done. 

I'd really like to know who people think offers less money than Rovers these days. Probably Sheffield Wednesday at the moment. I suspect that's the end of the list.
