The Scott Wharton thing brought genuine joy, as we watched on TV...

And I ended up telling my offspring about the League Liner and a previous away win at Watford with goals from Endean, Napier and Field...

When we win it makes my weekend. If we lose my weekend is ruined. I have a tee shirt from “ Philosophy Football “ which has a quote ( alledgedly from Henrik Ibsen, that famous Scandanavian international ) in big letters on the front, it says  - “ If the game is lost your earthly life is WASTED “. That sums it up for me. For a short period of time I can forget all about the Chicken Chokers.

It is six points from five games but as we have been talking specifically about yesterday it was a day to enjoy as a Rovers fan.

The Rovers fans didn't seem as numerous as usual? Is that fair comment?

Any particular reason? 

I always celebrate when we win, I know of no other way. But the reality of where we are heading soon comes back to haunt me.

Respectable turnout but below our usual Saturday afternoon standards i'd suggest especially after a two week break.

For context we took several hundred more there last season for a 12.30 kick off game so i'd say there has definitely been a knock on effect from this window.

Before yesterdays result the anger and disillusionment was still rather obvious.

There were almost 1000 in attendance which is about the average I think. As usual they were vocal which was appreciated by the players and staff.

ACD scored a really good goal here and a couple in friendlies I recall, the lad clearly had some talent but was missing in action too often in this league

Obviously we are basing opinions both positive and negative very early on here, as its all we have to go on. For example, Gudjohnsen on a promising half an hour. But it appears a mixed bag. Gestede also comes across unprofessionally and arrogantly.

Alebiousu, Morishita, McLaughlin and Miller to varying degrees also appear promising additions.

But equally, he has signed a player out injured for months and also De Neve and Henriksson have appeared to be well off the standard so far. Tavares has also really struggled.

But obviously the main issue has been the abject inability to hold on to any of our existing important players, with pathetic offers of the same wage and just an extra year. I suppose he isnt the main person to blame for that but Broughton managed it.

I was on the League Liner as well. On the open end, with a crisp box on my head to keep off the rain.

Wages down, age profile down, a smaller squad but genuine competition for places all over the park.

In Morishita and Gudjonsson we might have qualities we were sadly lacking last season.

A manager who has generated real togetherness knitting the biggest rag bag of pick ups together since Ken Furphy was in the seat.

Obviously getting wages down is very much the plan.

But dont let them fool you into thinking this summers overhaul is part of any plan. They wanted to keep all of the players that left and planned far less in the way of a squad change.

This is the Championship, there are plenty of sides around us at the moment who will finish in the top half. There's no reason that we can't go from our slow(ish) start to once again challenging for the playoffs.

The game that seems to cause people to think we are hard done by is the Birmingham game. There was little in the game either way for 85 minutes, just one moment of quality. But it was solely down to our naivety and our poor decision making that led to a defeat. I still dont get how we can end that game feeling hard done by.

Otherwise, West Brom and Norwich were deserved defeats. 

Hull we clearly deserved to win. I would also strongly suggest that we deserved to win yesterday, we took the lead and saw the game out very well. But if you argued that we deserved more v Birmingham, you could probably say that on quality of chances and territory it was pretty even.

Your general point at the end is fair by the way.

I think we can all see why Ismael wanted to wait so long in the transfer window to sign Morishita. 

yes some signings have been good so far like Alebiosu, McLoughlin, Miller, while Tavares look good against Hull and yesterday mostly. 

De Neve and Henriksson haven't look good but if we all remember neither did Tronstad when he first joined us, after a couple of months, settling in, understanding tactical what was needed he is key player for us. 

on the contract issue, Rovers dealt with them by selling them and getting fees in, which we used to sign other players. Its clear that Rovers have wage budget and have a limit how much we can pay each week so if we can't extend those contract then surely given your previous stance you want us to sell them? or has that change?

Great performance yesterday particularly the defence but I do feel that we are one body light in the centre. I know Rudy has ruled out another signing but can’t help thinking a change of mind would be sensible.
