He had to change something in that game and the performance improved when he did(granted not enough). They scored 2 from those 2 attacks but it wasnt wave after wave. And with that head start, it was never going to be attack after attack and they came closest again due to Sanderson making a mistake after coming on. The team was imbalanced with 3 right footed centre backs and we did lots of passing between them and barely had a shot in the second half. He then stuck with the formation against Stoke where we were appalling. 1 Quote

philipl Posted April 19 Author Posted April 19 Great win, but Millwall had 10 first teamers out How did we miss those three chances in the first 7 minutes? Toth not at fault for the goal- come on. A Millwall player got to it at the front of the 6 yard box and flicked it back to the guy who scored but could just as easily flicked it goalwards- Toth going for the ball across the 6 yard line would have been beaten at his near post.. As it was, the hard strike went back across the keeper and Toth was within a whisker of stopping. Pears would have stood and watched. Overall Toth was solid and his distribution excellent. Really chuffed for Tronstad, Hyam and Brittain all scoring. 5 Quote

RoversTilliDie Posted April 19 Posted April 19 10/10 for Callum Brittain, in the LT ratings. We need to get Brittain, Tronstad, and Dolan signing new contracts. 5 Quote

Overall Toth did very well. Making saves, handling and kicking the ball 6 hours ago, roversfan99 said: They scored 2 from those 2 attacks but it wasnt wave after wave. Going to back 3 give us a foot hold in the game. Second half we didn't put enough crosses in. Yesterday we did.. Do you see a style of play under Ismael he wants to play Yesterday? 11 minutes ago, RoversTilliDie said: 10/10 for Callum Brittain, in the LT ratings. Or maybe we should carry on playing this type of football. Brittain getting forward and supplying those good crosses into the box for players to attack them. Quote

ElTwis Posted April 19 Posted April 19 I'll try not to repeat what others have said but some thoughts: Toth looked decent, I think tthere's a classic lack of confidence in a goalkeeper unsure of his position and that played out a couple of times when he was unsure of coming out. He was heavily used in recycling the ball which is great but 100% will cost a goal at some point as his passing wasn't perfect Brittain - player of the season for me, defensively solid and has a knack of being in the right position from an attacking sense too Tronstadt - definitely played further forward. Really reads the game well which is why he's so often in the right place at the right time. Again, I think the shift in positioning will cost us a goal and its probably why Millwall managed to break the limes a couple times but it really contributed to the intensity Ismael is set upon. Yuki seemed ineffective today, not sure why but perhaps the early miss was playing on his mind. He still managed to drag Millwall players out of position so as much as he didn't score he played his part to an extent Gueye looked unfit to me, very slow but gave them something to think about at set pieces which is the point of having him as an impact sub. Cantwell is a class above in terms of vision and passing ability, his work rate has definitely picked up under Ismael which I think is interesting. He's got to cut the sulky rolling about on the floor when he loses the ball though. There were 2 occasions we played with 10 during Millwall attacks because he was committed to pretending he had an injury. Dolan, classic Dolan performance really, great workmrate, great drive but his final ball and decision making let's him down. That said, we shouldn't be letting him leave unless his wage demands are ridiculous. Overall - a great game to watch and if this is what Ismael teams are about I'm actually looking forward to it. We will doubtlessly lose badly to teams eho put away the chances we will deginitely give them each game but noone will look forward to playing us! However, our squad is so poor (as shown by the subs) that it's got to have some investment. One final thought - everything I saw yesterday suggests this team has a togetherness about them that they didn't under JE. Even the warming up at the sidelines was done together and there was one point they were clearly having a great time pressuring a millwall player taking a throw. Interesting given togetherness was JE's mantra. PS - playoffs definitely still on! 1 Quote
ElTwis Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Wait one more point. Pickering coming on at RB and Ribiero signing a longer contract, I wonder if that's indicative of Ismael seeing Pickering as a utility player capable of playing across the back line and Ribiero being first choice LB. 1 Quote

Think most on here feel that. It's always nice to see us play well and have a bit of a chant of 'cheerio' to cocky Millwall fans. But we all know the reality. After 15 years though... 1 Quote
rovers11 Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Really pleased with the win yesterday. Still not convinced about VI at all, but yesterday was one of our best performances of the season so credit where it's due. And it was against a Millwall team fighting for the play offs. The past 2.5 games have been a lot, lot better. Hopefully things are clicking a little bit. 3 Quote

Millwall will be coming to Ewood for the win to project themselves into the play-offs which will give the game an edge. They are on quite a run at the moment so the team and supporters will believe. All the noise from the sparse crowd will be from the Darwen End. Likelihood of us getting to half time at least 2 down has to be high. Montgomery will be unavailable. Travis and Hyam will play. Beyond that we need a random number generator for the starting eleven. This sort of a nothing game will be a measure of Ismael's abilities. Got that slightly wrong!! 1 Quote

And all that while constantly being mugged with little help from the ref. Seems Millwall decided the best way to nullify him was to ruff him up. 2 Quote

Aye for someone who's quite lightweight it's amazing how many times it's him that gets penalised in tackles etc but he's also quite cute at winning free kicks himself at times. Maybe that goes against him a bit with some refs. Quote
